Healing hands is almost required for a first-adventure “all characters survive” result.

Dude, Iove this game. My kids discovered my Warhammer Fantasy armies a while ago and got hooked. We've been playing Quest through the quarantine and loving it as well.

This series really caught my dad's imagination and he took the Quest back out of the box. We've been playing through missions and are moving on to a Skaven quest from an old copy of White Dwarf this weekend! Thanks for putting this series out, it's fantastic!

Was that the one with the Dwarf Slayer that died and you had to take the hammer (Sornigseng?) to complete the quest? I remember there were some ledges and lots of bottomless pit style action.

@@cjanquart this is the one with a Clan Skryre warpfire weapon on a dungeon tile from white dwarf. There are three possible missions and a Clan Skryre, Clan Eshin and a rat golem character.

@Robert Canavan I remember making a rat golem conversion for this quest when I was a wee lad. He had wheels instead of legs. It was my first attempt at making a conversion. I was very proud of it. No idea what happened to him.

Another fun installment! FYI though: the first attack rule (monsters targeting the character selected when they were placed) only applies to the monster's first attack. After that first round, the monsters follow the rule of one-on-one, i.e. a monster either attacks the nearest character (if pinned) or a new target is selected using equal division or the character tokens, if necessary. Also, a tip about Healing Hands: it's the ultimate "Keep the other heroes in the game" spell. Since the wizard can cast spells at any time during the turn, if you always make sure he has at least 2 power left you can cast it at the very end of the turn. That way, no matter how many wounds the heroes take during a turn, you can get everyone back up at the end of the turn. (Just try to keep the baddies off the wiz and save any healing potions for him!).

I own several good dungeon crawlers, but it's insane that this game hasn't had a proper 2nd edition reimplementing an improved version of THIS experience.

It's All Fun and Games What is your favorite other dungeon crawler? I have trouble finding one that's not silly or weird.
@itsallfunandgames7234 жыл бұрын
@@brandondollar : My next favorite is Descent 2nd edition, which is really a dungeon scenario game more than exploration, but I think it's a lot of fun. It provides the heroes with individual abilities and provides you choices as a player, but isn't too crunchy, and doesn't stray away from slaying monsters and picking up loot.

Love the way the story of this party just naturally arises from the mechanics. Don't need 300 pages of background to have a great narrative. Just throw 'em in a dungeon and go.

Our group held the belief that there was a coupon on each slain monster stating "redeem for x-amount of gold coins". The experience/gold conversion was weird because you could sandbag (you had to) and not level up and spend the gold on equipment, rather on training; we must have gone on several quests as a level one party.

I hate the rules for this game. Enemies just appear completely filling a room. Ambush means you have no magic? You can basically be one shot. You can be pinned but the Minotaur isn't. Orcs, Minotaurs and Skaven all in one place? It's just as bad as the computer game how can you stand it?
@christopherb70244 жыл бұрын
A few thoughts: Ambushes (I assume you mean unexpected events) don't mean you have no magic. You just have extremely limited power (1 + whatever personal power + power stored in magic items) for the round in question, so you probably won't be casting your "big" spells that round (at 1st level - more on that below). It's not likely you can be one-shot. The unexpected events keep the game fresh and challenging - it'd be a slow, boring slog without them. Monsters *can* be pinned - Ash goofed on that rule. All the various monsters in the same dungeon? Ash is playing the game in its most basic, out-of-the-box, beginner format. He's using the Event deck without customizing it. There are other options, from selectively removing cards from the Event deck, to adding your own Event cards,, to using one of the expansions (which are more monster-centric), to using the level-specific tables in the Roleplay book (and ignoring results that don't fit your dungeon) - all of which are encouraged by the rules. You have to get past the beginner play experience to really understand the depth of this amazing game. Once your characters start to grow (gather magic items and train to higher levels) and you start to include play elements beyond the basics (i.e. move from using just the rules in the basic Rule Book and into what's in the Roleplay book) the game really comes alive. TLDR: Don't hate the game until you've seen or experienced all it has to offer.
