I love that you're talking about strategy and tactics. I almost always play in a three ship division. I will typically be the destroyer commander and use my torps not to kill or hit but to force enemy ships into broadside against my division-mates (quick, easy kills is what we're about). We typically hunt destroyers early and herd the enemy team into a tight ball if possible late. Cap control is the name of our game, and we're pretty damn good at it.... love these type of videos Tbull keep 'em coming.

This, and the recent Cleveland video, are chock full of solid info. I have been saying for a long time that the DDs ability to turn bow-tanking BBs broadside is underused. Anyway, very informative video. Thanks.

Agreed! Its a great trick with the HMS dds. You can stay out of range & drop one of your smokes. They are guaranteed to move out of position.

Nice vid! Really enjoyed the strategic perspective. I’ve heard you talk about this in other vids but a more in depth video was nice. Personally I would really like a positioning guide. Maybe for each higher tier map (like tier 5+), idk. That might take a lot of time though. Would also probably require a lot of editing to explain everything. Maybe someone knows a good positioning guide? If so I would be thankful if you could share it :)
@theycallme47994 жыл бұрын
Positioning is REALLY situational. In a nutshell, DDs need to spot without being spotted themselves. The smoke, is to hide bigger ships, not to sit in yourself. Battleships should be focused on damage to cruisers with their FIRST shot out of the barrel. BB should be keeping mind of where torps CAN come from, and stay bow on, going FORWARD. Trust your armor (if ya got it). He's covered the cruisers already.

It's a better attitude than salt. Truth is any game like this is complex to get good at. No one expects noobs to be good at chess, especially when they thought they were signing up for a shooting game at first. People act like naval strategy is a basic skill like tying shoelaces lol.
@rhysheron2092 жыл бұрын
Excellent tutorial. I especially liked your point about the number of enemy ships in your firing range ring and keeping that as close to one as possible. I think I'm guilty of poor positioning and being focussed due to being overly aggressive, so need to pay attention to that as the next stage of my development, and increasing my average survivability above 40%. That concept should help me work on it.

basic board/territory control is key concept to any boardgame. there's an analogue in Call of Duty with spawn control: you can be godlike at aiming, but it's extremely hard to beat a disciplined team who's dictating the entire flow of the map

Legends is two games at once: rock, paper, scissors (BB, DD, CA/CL) AND chess. It is, like those games, terribly easy to learn (right trigger makes the guns go BOOM!) but nearly impossible to master. It is a game simultaneously of tactics (aiming, angling, shell selection, etc) and strategy ( map control, ship positioning, target selection, etc). It is those players who can understand and master BOTH aspects of the game who can drag their sack of potatoes (team) kicking and screaming across the finosh line, earning a high win rate and consistently place high on the leader board. Thank you for the great content. Keep it coming. Stay salty.
@HarmfulDesign4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you with one exception: the BB vs CL balance (at least at higher tier). Normally, BBs have the advantage over CLs, but the current meta is full of HE cruisers. In general, BBs struggle to hit these CLs due to dispersion, and when they do, they often overpenetrate and do minimal damage. Meanwhile, these CLs can rain HE shells down on enemy BBs and score lots of damage without any real thought or effort. We now have US light CLs, Soviet CLs, Japanese CLs, as well as several premium HE spammers. Battleship DC and RPs simply cannot keep up. I often get sunk when playing BBs due to fire damage without being able to use more than a single heal because the RP takes so long to recharge and I have 3+ HE spammers hammering me from extreme range. There is no way for BBs to counter this except for taking cover behind islands, but even this is largely ineffective since many of these enemy HE shells can arc over islands and hit my battleship anyway, all while I am somehow being detected by planes that can see through solid islands. It's honestly kind of ridiculous.
@echodrummer43084 жыл бұрын
I agree. Any cruiser having longer range than any BB is a bit absurd. As to the meta, fire prevention builds are basically a must these days. Flammable cannoniere is a dead skill. Overpens need to have a chance to cause floods if it is an overpen of the hull to force out damage con on cruisers. Fire damage needs to have saturation. It is obscene that the first tick of fire damage is the same as the last tick.
@HarmfulDesign4 жыл бұрын
@@echodrummer4308 Yeah the overpen mechanic often makes having large guns a detriment more than an advantage. I prefer BBs with smaller guns since they are generally better at citadeling broadside ships and you sometimes get more guns, too (12 on Normandie/Arizona vs 8 on Bayern/QE). Fire damage saturation might not be a bad idea; they could also reduce the HP value of BB superstructures to make them less vulnerable to HE. I would also reduce the cooldown of consumables across the board. Legends has 25% fewer players per match than PC, the matches have 25% shorter duration, so I think the cooldowns should be reduced by 25% too. Half the time I don't get an opportunity to use most of my consumables because they are on cooldown or the match ends.
@joeboyd32744 жыл бұрын
The manufacturing of broad side is definitely increasing necessary as I move up the tech trees...6 and 7. Something that gets me into trouble is a seemingly much slower, feels campfire smores style and I get lost only to realize my support is in reverse. I find it hard to be aggressive without support and without spotting support hard to play from cover. Not sure if I am wording that correctly.

Biggest problem I have with other players. I play a brawler BB for the most part. 95% of the time I run into people that dont capitalize on what on me taking fire and often dont support what my ship is doing at all. All to often I see BBs just reversing Cruisers not hunting DDs leaving BBs unsupported. Only DD players do their jobs correctly the bulk of the time. Playing the Massachusetts I generally take out at least one DD with secondaries or lead to its death.

@@maddogs1989 in my view, the destroyer should be capping bases, fighting the red destroyers and spotting for the team. Whenever you see them doing something else, like sailing around in the enemy's spawn for 10 minutes trying to torp a backline battleship, then they are not playing well. And that is the most common thing you will see destroyer players doing.

Started with Military Strategy games, paper maps, cardboard counters in the '60s. Warhammer 40K later on as well as Wings of Glory (still play) and an assortment of RTS PC games and what I see as the biggest issue is very few players develop Map awareness or any concept of winning Strategically. It's just a kill fest and that he s why Ranked has been such a shit show is you have to win Strategically by capping bases, period.
