Intuitive for the cruisers is crucial if you are actually going to hunt DDs. I used to just use Einstein on my US heavy cruisers because he helps SO much with the glacial turret traverse, but he makes light cruisers downright lethal against destroyers. Great for hunting down that pesky last ship too. Another awesome video, Tbull. Love zone firing on the direction finder.

Only time I don't use radio locator on a DD is with Akizuki/Togo AA build. Bit of a crutch but 3 consumable charges and 234 dpm AA makes up for it.

you've called out "this is a set play..." a few different times, the action of: fan out the torps, and then switch to guns to disable prop/wheel. traditionally, set plays have names, like COVER 3 or DIAMOND SWEEP PASS. at some point we need a cool sounding name for this

I like perception on my primary torp boats and twist & track on my gunboats
@ligh7foo72 жыл бұрын
2nd game in using twist and track and I am circling a destroyer 4.4km away. The track points to someone at 8oclock. A cruiser had flanked around an island and was launching torpedoes. I turned around just in time to see them before I heard the warning sounds. Immediately I disengage with the destroyer to evade the cruiser. Originally I wanted to scout but both teams had the bright idea to capture Charlie.
@schumakew2 жыл бұрын
To me... When you know that you'll mostly have a concealment advantage... Twist n track kind of give away that you're enemy is under attack somehow...
@TbullGaming2 жыл бұрын
You're talking about something that 10% of your opponents will be able to correctly interpret, versus information that you as an informed played will be able to use 100% of the time. And the more experience you have with the locator, the more situations that you'll correctly understand that you wouldn't be able to just relying on other factors

You should be able to read the map and know roughly where the destroyers are unless they are hyper focused on stealth torping, in which case they are irrelevant anyways
@jessehamilton39802 жыл бұрын
Yep, can't say how often I notice ships change course after I close range to make them my nearest target..if you are stealth torping effectively then you are constantly flirting on the edge of your concealment window, hence your target is always "located" by you and as you say they then understand that there is a DD lurking in close and to drive eradicate to throw off torp solutions.. If you run a DD hunter build then TnT/Perceptive is necessary so you can keep your guns on target and run them down after you are spotted as most gunboats have bad concealment..but any torp focused ships, if you play them right, TnT is more of a handicap then a benefit 👍

Perceptive is so much more powerful than Twist 'n Track it's not funny. I hardly use Twist 'n Track anymore because it's been powercrept within it's own row. I just wish the RDF indicator was more visible, it's hard to see a lot of the time.

Iv noticed a growing trend for friendly destroyers and cruisers to completely ignore the enemy destroyers why is that? For instance when enemy destroyers get around the sides or even behind us nobody will try and spot or even atack the destroyers, friendly units will allow the enemy destroyers to sit behind and torp the whole team for the entire game and even when I eventually lose patience and go and spot and atack the destroyers with my battleship I get no help. Am I missing something ?

That was my go to until EVERYONE got direction finding. Torpedo safari… took Kamikaze range from 7 km to 8.1, allowed me to torp potatoes from almost 12km on IJN higher tier DDs. It was almost unfair. Still use it occasionally on very stealthy low tier boats.

@admanloading91102 жыл бұрын
It's a good contender for best perk but honestly it depends on the build and ship. Cruisers have more use with ingenious and fully packed while battleships have WTR and that dunkerque reload skill. Even for destroyers I'd say unstoppable is a good contender.
@richarddoig18652 жыл бұрын
If you don’t use some kind of direction finder in DDs, you are basically dead meat. Other ships have done great perks, but in a destroyer, I don’t think there is any questions. This probably could have been broken down by ship type for those that don’t DD though.
@Thunderlord_Tozn2 жыл бұрын
@@richarddoig1865 what does the locator perk do once you’ve found the DD? Unless you’re Russian or German, nothing. Perks that directly affect your ship are more useful than a perk that gives vague information. Especially once you’ve started to develop the skill where you can tell where the enemy is going to deploy to.
@richarddoig18652 жыл бұрын
@@Thunderlord_Tozn the whole purpose of the perk IS to find the DD. Or , if you’re in an IJN DD, avoid gunboats. It lets you get the 1st salvo or 2 off , or blind fire torpedoes in a productive direction. It allows you to not be ambushed while stalking your prey. Your missions as a DD are spotting( particularly enemy DDs, but other ships as well)capping objectives, then hunting down the enemy fleet after that, or if they happen to sail nearby. Pretty much in that order, if you’re a decent skipper. Direction finding is instrumental in all of those functions. I’m not sure what other perk in the 3rd slot is more important than that, but we all have our preferred tactics. I’ve just found the direction finding to be most important with all my destroyers. More power to you if you have another opinion, my man. I wasn’t trying to insult you. You seemed to take my opinion personally. It’s just my opinion. See you when I spot you first! Have a nice day, commander.
@packerram22 жыл бұрын
The only destroyer that doesn’t get this perk is the Kleber. You have to sacrifice it for Torpedo Safari since they nuked nerfed it’s torp range. It sucks but luckily the ship is so OP it’s still prolly the best all around DD at the tier.
@BCNoker2 жыл бұрын
Kleber is OP even with 6km torps since you can pick the perk that reduces your detect with engine boost, if you know how to use it Kleber can get really dangerous

Is very handy, but 80% of time you should know where enemy dd is without it.
@jessehamilton39802 жыл бұрын
This exactly..it's a great skill for new players trying to learn the typical channels that ships use match to match..but after you learn enough about player habits and map characteristics you can have your own mental TnT that is just as effective..I use it on my USN/RU gunboats but all my torp ships are set with faster torp reload..TnT on IJN DDs is just wasted DPM space 🤦

@Thunderlord_Tozn2 жыл бұрын
@@Shortstop803 pretty much any perk that directly affects your ship in a fight. Once you’ve found the DD, what does that perk do for you? TnT is really only for the ussr DDs because it has turret traverse. On top of that, once you’ve been playing for 10k+ games you should start to get a feel for how the enemy team will deploy on certain maps. Meaning that while not as accurate as having TnT/Perceptive, you still have a good idea of where the enemies are. Which lets you free up a perk slot to pick something that will help you win the fight like Thousand Cuts, Stand or Fall, or even choose a perk that makes your torps more effective. Every other choice is better in winning the fight. The location perks are useful for getting information but if you already know where they are, then what’s the point?
@Thunderlord_Tozn2 жыл бұрын
@@Shortstop803 I’m not saying locater perks aren’t good, but there are better choices that directly help you win your fights. If you haven’t developed the skill to identify enemy deployments, then by all means, use the perks.

@@TbullGaming didn’t say it was, I actually encourage newer players to use it so that they can learn enemy deployments over the course of 10k+ games. And again, guessing the deployments is exactly that, a guess. It’s not gonna be as accurate as TnT but you still have a good idea.
