bro, you are becoming my favorite youtuber real quick. First with your help with my VR-N76 and now my dream, a BBS!!!! oh boy, cant wait for the video about install it as I have no knowledge of direwolf

Appreciate that, glad you’re enjoying the channel! Was happy to help you with your N76! Manually putting in a ton of frequencies would have been a pain from the app.

Oh yeah, I’m really enjoying your channel. Was about to start with Meshtastic as you got me excited but I had to take a stop as the day only have 24hrs and I don’t have time for another rabbit hole lol. I have my hands full with HF, digital modes, studying for CW, go boxes, you name it hahaha. While this video about BBS pops up I was trying to figure out how to use the N76 by Bluetooth earbuds but it looks like that’s not possible as I can’t find VOX in the radio. I can get my Apple airbuds paired and can hear fine but the PTT in the radio gets disable and I don’t have other option for PTT. Still researching because I love the radio but options for external mic or speakers will be amazing. When I started with ham radio before high school (novice) I remember the BBS and always been dreaming to put up one and leave a slave vhf radio 24/7 on that.

@@angelscomputers I hear you, haha. There are many many rabbit holes with this radio hobby. I think you'll enjoy this APRS-BBS. Much more to come!

My favorite part of BBS packet was seeing the flashing LED on the TNC letting me know I had a mail/message. Pre internet days. Lets bring that back

I find it fascinating that the amateur radio digital world is going back to 40+ year old computer communication technology for text messaging systems. I guess it is another case of what is old is new again.
@The_Comms_Channel11 сағат бұрын
@@bwillan I think we'll see more of it. Works well and is easy to deploy your own infrastructure.

We should have never abandoned it.

We should have demanded the radio manufacturers to make 56K radios for data only. Packet radio was so much better tech than any mesh network.

Interesting use of the APRS protocol to make packet BBS work better on modern portable devices. OT, but I'm curious, is that the default pixel android OS or something better?
@The_Comms_Channel10 сағат бұрын
Thank you! It's been fun to learn and create. These are running the standard android os that comes on the pixels

I will find this way more useful than the current APRS in my area (which it's basically dead). Def on my 2025 to-do list
@The_Comms_Channel10 сағат бұрын
Yeah, APRS seems to be hit or miss in some areas. Hope you find this useful! Let me know how it goes.

Is this meant to run on the main APRS frequency?
@The_Comms_Channel12 сағат бұрын
It is not. Meant to run on the usual packet radio or experimental range
@RussellThomas12 сағат бұрын
@The_Comms_Channel Ahh makes sense as that could generate a lot of packets

Yep! Want to avoid any potential congestion on the main freq
