TC Electronic Mojo Mojo Overdrive Pedal Review.
It's Paul Gilbert's favourite overdrive pedal, so how bad can it be?

How about a Fuzz pedal review? The affordables like Tc Electronics Rusty Fuzz, a Donner or a Behringer pedal etc? And you can try some that are a tad more expensive like Joe Gore's Duh, or the overlooked JDM 292.

Im in love with this pedal, truly brings a bit bassy bluesy/jazzy mojo to a strat neck pup, 50 bucks; for 20 bucks the Moskys Silver Horse and Crazy Tone also bring good bass enhancement to tone... even in this demo i much prefer the Mo to the other drive...Cheers evrybody!!!

I’ve had this pedal for awhile and I thought I liked it, I wanted to like it, couldn’t put my finger on it but I just wasn’t in love with it, thought it was just me never being fully satisfied with my tone... I’m glad I found this video, it justified my feelings about mojo mojo, AND I love your shredding at the end while I type this!!!!

I think it sounded great and more raw vs the malmsteen overdrive which I also like although it really cuts the bass and makes it a bit harsher with more less pleasant highs. Nice review!!

Mojo Mojo gives more thickness to your tone and it was warmer than the YJM for sure. I prefer Mojo Mojo but at the end the guitar tone is a completely sunjective thing :)

It sounds great into a Super Reverb or an AC (top boost channel). But I don't play metal so my sound is much, much different than yours. On rare occasions when I have turned the gain all the way up, it has sounded like shit. A tube screamer or something before it might tighten it up some. Maybe an EQ.

i am not sayin the Boss OD-2R Turbo Overdrive is your cup of tea,,,,, but its for you,,for that amp,, it is hard to do any better then this there are no opamps or any other types of integrated circuits in there. so the natural harmonics come alive. the turbo can do a lead boost with a side button added. then demo deep purple songs for us,, hiway star,, and hendrix machine gun or voodo chill jeff healy concordance man or SRV so many great strat players to choose from.

Its EQ is very pronounced. As PG said, it works nicely to tame shrill highs. But if your amp already has tamed highs, this sounds just muffled. It's not a very good all-purpose overdrive

A bit late coming to this video, but I absolutely agree with your assessment of the MojoMojo. As a big fan of tc electronics, I really wanted to love this pedal, but I don’t. As you note, it’s too fuzzy for an overdrive, but not fuzzy enough for a fuzz. I keep dragging it out, and trying it with different set ups, but I can’t find a sound that works for me. Great demo, and awesome playing, as always. I particularly enjoyed the Jeff Beck (RIP), style whammy work. Brilliant, in my estimation, and in a fair world, you’d be much better known. But I hope you continue to do what you do.

Well i think if you applied that technique to something more harmonically interesting it could sound amazing! the bigger question being; why do so many rock shredders completely disregard harmony on guitar? so many times I see them racing up and down the fretboard with showy, complex technical passages, to be followed with A, G, D chords in first position! It's like a body builder who only works on one area! Music is much much more than running up and down a fretboard! Even Paganini didn't play only rapid stuff. And all the classical geniuses could improvise around changes! Next question, why do the pseudo neo-classical shredders never choose Bach, which is both technically and harmonically some of the most interesting music ever written, to demonstrate their prowess on the instrument? i think i know why; cos they can't show off! Conclusion; classical harmony in rock guitar is shallow and superficial in my opinion. Sorry for the rant! But I'm right!
@MrPolevaulter
@MrPolevaulter 6 жыл бұрын
You seem to be lumping me in the "rock shredders" category. On that point you are dead wrong. That one has a slightly more interesting harmony thing going: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZKYi6NorqprbZY And this one is simple as hell and no showing off: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5fakHlpndqJmdE You're absolutely right. Music is much more than running up and down a fretboard. But it can also be running up and down a fretboard. And it's not because of showing off, at least in my case. It's because it's fun.
@damianrjames
@damianrjames 6 жыл бұрын
i guess i lumped you in because you did a demo in which you shredded the most part. statistically, i'd say that the "sometimes" adverb of frequency represents about 50% or less of the time, not 90%! apologies if i lumped, i do actually love the sound you got outta the pedal! :)

Everything in this video represents YJM mindset and equipment. That's why this is not a good video for review. That pedal actually very versatile and that player's mindset (YJM) not.

Yngwie is more versatile than you think. He combines elements of rock, blues, metal, and classical into his playing style. But I get what you're saying. Yngwie has a particular sound he's going for.

Little love letter to all gear reviewers, I fucking know what guitars are made of and they are all made the fucking same, I know how pedals are made and what a fucking knob is for. Shut the fuck up and run through as many guitars and tone options as possible, I don’t care about anything except for how it sounds.
