I’ve been tinkering with my Hawken , great info . Not too many close shots out here in west Texas. Wish those rear sights were in stock …but I keep looking .

I wonder about that peep sight, the way you shoot, man. I got that same rifle 30yrs ago, accurate as heck, but what you can do with a round ball is very good. You're right, most shooters have no idea what they're missing. They teach you ballistics, are fun and effective enough.

Thank you. I have a factory stock .50 cal. Renegade that I’ve been meaning to get back into black powder shooting with, and this gives me a great starting point for doing that. I even have a Lyman rear sight like your rifle has, but don’t have it mounted yet. I will certainly look into those bullets.

Wow I watched this and run over to my storage building and dug out a T/C New Englander in a .54 cal. Bore looks good also dug through my casting mounds and found a T/C mould for a .54 Maxie Ball I think they are called I will have to cast one to see what grain it is I am hoping mine will shoot decent at 200 yards. Mine has a single trigger but my trigger pull gauge tells me it breaks at a consistent two pounds so I can live with that!

God, i wish i had somewhere to shoot. I may as well just sell everything i own. If you don't own land, belong to the local gun club (which is extremely expensive and selective) or visit a 25 yd max indoor range with the rest of the rabble, you're shit out of luck. I remember as a boy i had all the woods in the world to shoot and hunt in. No neighbors, no licenses, and no hassle from the man. I didn't know what i had. I just thought that was normal for everyone.

Do you use any bullet lube with this arrangement .? I assume that you use some on the 1/8” thick .54 caliber felt over powder wad .. would wonder lube work okay .? Man I just gotta try this, I’ll bet that puts the smack down on big game .. I’m in Florida and want to harvest wild pigs, Florida is full of them and can be hunted year round ..!

Enjoy your videos. Getting ready to hit the buy button for these bullets to try in my Renegade. Do I have to lube the bullet after wrapping and before shooting? How do these group at 100 yards in the 1/48 Renegade?.......................Thank you,
@millertyme41142 жыл бұрын
Glad I found this ..this is great..and definitely gives me a new perspective on bullets..although I have a tc 45 cal...do you have a estimated guess how many inches above say a 100 yard zero..to hit that 500 yard target..just curious.
@wildrangeringreen2 жыл бұрын
depends on the bullet design and velocity, amongst other things. External Ballistics isn't as simple as many on Muzzle Loading Forums would have you believe. But, by way of reference, using the claimed NOE BC for NOE 515-447-FN-AG4 (.272) (both this NOE bullet and the bullet used in this vid are very similar to the original used in the 50-70 govt cartridge) and assuming 1200fps (which should be doable with roughly a 80gr charge of BP): The bullet would be 27.6" low at 200yd (assuming a .75" sight height and 100yd zero), and would require 13.2 MOA of adjustment to be on at 200 (when you adjust your sight for that 200yd zero, it would about shoot 13.9" high at 100yds (with the apex being at 100yds)). A 500 yard shot would drop 319.6" low from a 100 yard zero (and require 61 MOA of adjustment) and a 500yd zero would be 64.1" high at 100 yards (with the apex being at 250yds at 106.7" high). IdahoLewis's bullet is different, but similar, and will yield a different trajectory (not to mention, I'm not sure what velocity he's getting, exactly)

I have a 1:48 twist Traditions Mountain rifle that I want to try this with. My question, is there any chance of you doing a similar video using a flintlock Renegade or Hawken? I realize the accuracy standards would not be the same, however I would like to be able to shoot my T/C Hawken accurately out to about 200 yards.
@sethmullins8346 Жыл бұрын
Do you do your fouling shot with the same bullet you're about to shoot, or just any old bullet? I'd hate throwing an expensive bullet like that just shooting it into the dirt. A wrinkled up REAL or something is more my speed, haha.

Any advantage with higher charges, say grains?
@idaholewis2653 жыл бұрын
I don’t feel there is any advantage of more powder, Blackpowder hits a “Wall” where you gain VERY LITTLE. 80 Grains of Swiss 2F Powder is a Sweet Spot 👍
