It’s been great seeing you improve over the past 10 or so years. I miss the passion I had for playing, really do. Had to focus on my career for a while. Maybe one day I’ll start taking lessons again.

Real talent, with the potential to become THE cellist of his generation. Subtle and generous interpretation, allowing space for the flute solo. Wonderful technique and true musicality. Personally, I don't like too much vibrato, but this is high romanticism so its allowed, and you get it just about right. I am no longer young - to me some of your generation over use vibrato, and it gets in the way of the music just as much as excessive portamento did in the early twentieth century. Its a seasoning, and not the main dish.

I love this cellist but why do you want him has THE Cellist ! Its pretty cool to have more than ONE to offer diversity.

I think that he is already THE cellist as no one comes close to his genius! And of course the diversity of other gifted cellists will always be there for us to hear. I would just rather listen to someone with this kind of integrity for the composer, a gorgeous sound, and incredible technique. And without all the unnecessary theatrics! He has it all!!

We heard Santiago at the Tchaikovskiy International Competition both in 2015 and in 2019--in 2019 before the first round I experienced something like the opening of the gates of heaven before Santiago started playing... maybe I'll search for words some more and describe it a bit better in a comment sometime later...
