Russian composer Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky had just fled a short and ill-fated marriage when he wrote his Violin Concerto, which was panned by critics when it finally premiered in Vienna. He went to his grave never knowing that it would be cherished by solo concert violinists the world over. Canadian violinist Blake Pouliot, a classical music phenomenon who last appeared with NACO during its 2022 Truth in our Time tour, returns to the NAC to perform Tchaikovsky’s one and only violin concerto.

Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovsky vient tout juste de fuir un mariage écourté et voué à l’échec lorsqu’il compose son Concerto pour violon. Après la première de l’œuvre à Vienne, le compositeur russe essuie des critiques virulentes. Tchaïkovsky ne verra malheureusement jamais le jour où sa création sera adorée des violonistes solos du monde entier. Pour son retour au CNA, Blake Pouliot interprète le seul et unique concerto pour violon du compositeur. Le violoniste canadien, véritable phénomène de la musique classique, s’est produit au centre pour la dernière fois lors de la tournée La vérité à l’ère moderne en 2022.
