Unbelievable! Perfect. Simply perfect. Rich. Colorful. Extremely accurate. Full of gusto. Gil "grows" into the Concerto he performed so many times - both in studio and live - in ways that even Peter Elych himself would find hard to recognize. As I've written many times, Gil has Hafetz' accuracy, Perlman's warmth, Menuchin's virtuoso, and Stern's passion. He's THAT good. Thank you maestro Gil, and thank you to the LPO allowing such a star to shine among them. Excellent performance!!!

BRAVO !!!. Saludos desde España.

Crisp, enlightened and just a wonderful performance. I've ardently admired Mr. Shaham ever since seeing him on TV when I was a teenager. Love your comment about violinists not having to bankrupt themselves in order to play a nice instrument. My favorite female violinist, Sayaka Shoji, who plays this really well, too, plays a Stradivarius, but I understand it's on a long term loan from a Japanese music academy or some such establishment. I'm sure you've heard Gil Shaham playing Carmen Fantasy. Now that IS fantastic!

Something tells me that it probably still wasn't cheap. I would be quite surprised if it was cheaper than 100k but would be interested to know if anyone can find the actual price. I would also add the while this instrument sounds good, his recordings on the strad that he used to play sound much better imo when it comes to the quality of tone.

THIS STYLE OF PLAYING WAS COMMON WITH THE GREAT VIOLINSTS OF THE PAST; HEIFETZ, OISTRAKH, MILSTEIN, ETC. MOST OF TODAY'S VIOLINISTS BORE ME. THIS PERFORMANCE REMINDS ME OF THOSE GREAT VIOLINISTS OF THE 20th CENTURY. I HAVE MOST OF GIL SHAHAM'S RECORDINGS, BECAUSE HE IS PLAYS MUSICALLY & TO PERFECTION. THE SLURS DONE AT 8:18 ARE MAGNIFICENTLY EXECUTED. VERY SMOOTH & IN TEMPO. ALSO, VERY FEW VIOLINISTS CAN PLAY 29:07 & 33:28 AS DISTINCTLY AS GIL SHAHAM DOES. LISTEN TO JOSHUA BELL, FOR EXAMPLE; HE FLUBS IT. BUT THEN, SO DO MANY OTHERS.

Very educated cerebral phrasing with calculated feeling and technique. But you can’t live without a heart. In this case an artificial one! Do you prefer: digital photograph, or, analog painting!

It is quite interesting on how he uses many harmonics instead of solid fingered notes. It is refreshing to know that you can get away with this easier option!
@adriendecroy7254 Жыл бұрын
harmonics are not necessarily easier. Especially not to find balance between normal and harmonics if you are playing occasional harmonics in a run of normal notes.
@gregorydocenko4019 Жыл бұрын
@@adriendecroy7254 The actual instrument/strings/bow makes a difference. With my one violin,I totally agree with you. My other violin knocks out everything with ease and clarity. Even the double harmonics when playing Paganini Concerto.
@adriendecroy7254 Жыл бұрын
@@gregorydocenko4019 I wasn't referring so much to how the harmonic may sing or sound out, but the fact that you have to use your LH finger quite differently, with a light touch, and this can be pretty tricky to squeeze into a passage of normally-fingered notes. Maybe easier if you're using the finger you just played a stopped note with.
@gregorydocenko4019 Жыл бұрын
@@adriendecroy7254 You are correct. But, I was referring to how each violin makes you able/play differently. After 40 yrs. of searching I finally found a violin that matches me. I could always play everything, (Juilliard trained)but when you get a violin that clicks with you. You easily can play as you want to with that individual sound. It’s really not tricky for me. I played Tchaikovsky concerto when I was 10. My reviews always compared me to Heifetz, Stern, Milstein. Check out my faculty recital on Gypsy music at Buffalo State College. I was using a Kono violin recommended by Joshua Bell. It was okay. I really didn’t like it. I can’t wait to put out videos with my new violin.

Gil is great - technically, phraseology and sound wise of his instrument itself. Really nice. But overall came out some what dry, probably. I don't see images and don't see why he is doing this. What the reason. Statement. What is he fighting for, if you wish. Do these people understand what they try to say with this piece of music. I see they play right notes, follow right dynamic, strokes, but why, why and why? What are you trying to say?! We're playing right notes? And that's it?! Please. OK. I'm totally wrong.
