Equally at home with crooning, screaming, rapping, beatboxing, growling, scatting, singing opera, hitting the high falsetto or belting out his signature sound, Mike Patton is a true genre-defying vocal alchemist who has always been willing to go where the music dictates.
Recently, Patton added the VoiceLive Touch 2 to his effects arsenal and in this video he's talking about his vocal philosophy.

I love this guy. He's so realistic about the music business and is easily one of the greatest singer of all history, and is also very versatile. I like that. Sol Invictus is a killing album, that's how you make your comeback in the charts. If you ever read this Mike, just know I (and many others) think you're the man, time passed but you're still rocking around and doing your business for the best, and that's awesome !

I love Mike Patton very much. His music is absolutely brilliant, and he will always be an inspiration to me. That being said, this interview shows him in such a different light than I'm used to seeing him in. I guess that's partly because he's twice as old. But, it's actually kind of a relief to see that he's kind of a goofy old dork now, instead of a petulant cocky adolescent who literally poops all over the place. Keep rockin' it, Mike!

I don’t think Mike has ever met a musical challenge that he has declined to have a go at and that’s incredible to me. He said he feels comfortable with singing and perhaps that’s because he doesn’t look at anything like a limitation but a challenge. He’s a fearless adventurer and he’s certainly made me more adventurous with my listening. He’s always willing to learn and adapt and that’s inspiring.

Thank you * Mike Patton* for your help. Very genuine and fantastic schooling! IMO: I agree 100% with you in regards to having one person in front that has to sing. That is when the ego gets crazy big! You have proven we do not need that anymore! I feel it has to come from my soul when I sing, or forget it. I am out!! I call it LSS for years.`Lead singer syndrome.*! Bloody hate it!!! I have not heard *Fantomas* yet. I had a lot of catching up to do. BTW: The body of work you have done ( including your method acting skills) Bless *Karen Black* ( RIP) (you two were amazing in that movie) inspires me. Thanks again man for staying so down to earth. You save lives with your art. Consider all art critics as dangerous. Ciao p.s. I had to edit. Also I agree 100% about being unique and diverse. We need more INNOVATORS today! Bye now.

Greatest vocalist ever. His work continues to inspire me decades after first hearing him. Patton and Mr. Bungle opened so many doors to musical discovery. Secret chiefs 3, John Zorn, Tub Ring, all the patton bands, Stump and so many other strange and unique bands that aren't afraid of going outside the box. Patton has done more for the music industry than anyone else I can think of.
@ChrisPearson1337
@ChrisPearson1337 10 жыл бұрын
Here is an anecdote to maybe discuss: When Mr. Patton described his instinct to cut back and avoid "putting in too much" and seek a more minimalist approach, it seems a point in many artists' growth. Trent Reznor in particular mentions a similar method. It is an urge for the purest, most economical expression. Trying to find "just right" in what you do.
