Got the 98 inch Qm7 on the way with 5 year warranty for $1999+$500! Wanted a 100 inch u8k for months now, wanted price to drop at least to an even $3k. After some research, went into Best Buy to see Qm7 after seeing 98 inch on sale for $1999. Saw 85 inch Qm7 in store, and a 100 inch u8k which I’m not sure personally is worth $3k over$2k, let alone qm8 98 at $3999! Or Sony X90L 98 at $4999! Saw 98 x90l right next to u8k 100. The improvement my peasant tv watching eyes are used to seeing just couldn’t justify the differences. I knew I wanted mini led at minimum and 98-100inch, but to me tvs are like fast cars, you can get the fastest car but in a relatively short amount of time there will be a faster car. I feel I’ll be comfortably pleased the next 5 years at least, especially with your quantum settings!

Maybe you could go into the individual presets and control the back lighting there. DCR, OPC, OFF for example. Also the auto illuminate settings, low, middle, strong and extended, or off. Sometimes I turn these off in the individual presets, and just let the movie play as the director intended. I have a VIZIO monitor, that is about 15 y.o., but still going good for the bedroom viewing. I will update soon though, and your channel is awesome for learning about the new tech.. The TCL and HiSense imho are perfect for 90% of your average consumers. You get somewhat close to the more expensive models at a much friendlier cost. I've been leading most of my friends to these tv's because they want cheap but good. Not expensive and nuanced.

The s90d might be a better choice for the budget minded. I use the movie mode at bed time viewing, and the brighter modes during the day. Cut the blue light for better sleep.

Great review and timely. Definitely the full truth; the value that Q offers is secondary to none. I purchased the qm7 as a replacement for an old tv and my mind is blown. Χ955 is available only in 115 inches in Europe C955 in 85 and 98 Qm8 is the c855 Qm7 is the c805 I'm not 100% sure because this year TCL has messed up more with the series numbers That's why it is far behind in sales compared to Hisense. Hisense has exactly the same specs and the same serial numbers and the only thing that changes is the operating system, which they say is better than Android

Calibration settings? White need to be white not yellowish. And everything is too dark. You made it worse than originally settings.

I believe so. Anytime you have more electrical load on any kind of bulbs, it’s bound to shorten life. I run mine on 65 % brightness with custom settings & very pleased with picture quality on my QM7

I paid $4.99 just a few days ago and I live in PA. If you're using the KZbin App on iPhone, Apple has like a 30% mark up on subscriptions and some in app purchases so they can get their cut. I found this out cuz when my wife tried signing up for KZbin premium a couple years ago, the price was $11.99 per month, but the KZbin app on iPhone was showing it as $14.99. Workaround was to just do it thru safari browser on the phone or sign up on your desktop so Apple doesn't hit you with another 30% on top.

There is absolutely no such thing as an unnatural picture. That’s the entire point of this channel is that reference quality is not accurate anymore for what a TV can do. There is no TV out of the box that’s ever going to look the way the real world does. You have to get the TV properly calibrated to what things are supposed to look like in the real world, once you do that both are comparable in some areas with the S90D being better overall.

As mentioned no tv out of the box has natural picture quality that I'd true to life. I do my best to bridge that gap showing what each tvs maximum capabilities are. Not a single tv meets natural aka real world levels of imagery. We can only get as close as we can. The only way we're getting natural is when tvs overhaul processing to mimicks lighting conditions of the world and it'd day & night cycles, complete with weather mapping based on seasons.

Watch a football match look at its rendering of the colour green, what do you see its not a green from a live broadcast its a luminous green. As samsung owners know even changing red and blues won't change this. And yes Sony tvs are spot on out the box. Could argue this all day but I won't, have better films to watch in 4k uhd bluray.
