I think without John Lasseter the films wouldn't be this popular in America. We need to thank him for that, and hey, he is just a huge fanboy in the end, like how we are fangirls/fanboys to Miyazaki's films too. Only difference is John CAN help bring his movies to America!

Thank you Mr. Lasseter, for being one of the few Americans who truly understands, not only the beauty of Japanese anime as an art form, but also Hayao Miyazaki's central importance to this art form and to Japanese culture in general. You are a wonderful ambassador for anime, and a master artist in your own right.

I thought Nausicaa in the valley of the wind was his first film. Oh well, it doesn't matter. All of his work is off the hook.

Way way late but nah it was the castle of cagliostro. Both that and Nausicaa were made before Studio Ghibli tho

In a sense, James Berardinilli was right when he wrote back in 2005 that Valiant aims to prove that the death of traditional animation has simply pushed lackluster screenplays into the digital realm. John Lasseter may have deep respect for Studio Ghibli, but he's certainly not wise enough to understand that Pixar is ruining any chance of 2D Animation regaining it's commercial viability.

I hate John Lasseter. Every one of my Miyazaki movies that I bought there he is in all his glory to tell you about the movie that I had already bought, like he's trying to sell it. He annoys the hell out of me. Every time I pop in Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service I forget about his intro, but then I'm reminded by the gut wrenching sound of "Hi, I'm John Lasseter!"

Chris Noble I'm not certain, but I think they removed that on the newer DVDs/Blu-rays? I would guess at the time (2003-ish) Disney felt Ghibli movies needed an "ambassador" to bridge the gap with Western audiences - obviously no longer necessary after over a decade of familiarity

+Chris Noble He's the one who brought Miyazaki's movies to America in the first place. You should be grateful. It wouldn't be possible without him. And he's just a Miyazaki fan, like the rest of us.

ANGELILYworks I don't have to see the Nintendo of Europe localization team who made bringing my video games to the west possible on any of my games from Japan, so why do I need John Lassiter on my Japanese movies?

Chris Noble. No need to be so whiny about it, just skip the intro.

Well there have been many different stories on how Spirited Away came to be developed. To be honest I really didn't like John Lasseter's story about how "apathetic" the girls were. He makes it seem like the 10 year old daughter was a type of "brat" or something. When that wasn't it at all. She was just a very lonely girl who was sort of off in her own little word. That's what Miyazaki himself has said.

Well she was acting whiny at the start of the film to be honest.

Considering most anime is pretty putrid (but that won't stop you from telling me how "wrong" I am even though I'm right, right?) it's always a wonder to watch a Miyazaki film. I can't even consider it anime. When I think anime I think stiff animation, static backgrounds, CHOKINGLY AWFUL writing, inane character designs, muted pastel colors, and sex, sex, sex, SEX. Not to mention endless :3 X0X ^o^ faces. A Studio Ghibli work features none of that. It's just art. Beautiful, beautiful art.
