Robert Osborne you will be sorely missed! My family started watching TCM when I was in junior high, and I’d always tune out the older guy introducing the films, just waiting for the film to start impatiently and turning the channel when it ended. Never paying any attention to him, bored by the delay of the film. Later, something changed. I think he was talking about my favorite film, Marty (1955), and I hung on his every word. When dvr came about, I loved that I could rewind and listen to his intros and outros. Robert Osborne had a wealth of knowledge and experience in Hollywood and film. Watching a film now on TCM without his introductions and the way he connected with us, the audience, is just not the same. We bought all his books and I especially loved his huge books on the oscars. Robert Osborne was the _best_ !

Robert Osborne was such a comforting presence in our lives. Many have said this, and it is true: it was as though a dear old friend entered our living rooms, sat in a chair reserved just for him, and with his gentle manner and words, took us away from our troubles and to a world of make-believe.

for those wondering about Carrie Fisher... she was included in the video last year...she was a last-minute addition to the presentation...her mother Debbie Reynolds, unfortunately, that one day made the difference in whether to try to get her in as well or miss the "end of year" deadline (no pun intended)...plus, you have to look at it from the standpoint of her legacy...people would have been angry if they had just rushed a quick pic of Debbie at the end, given her decades of work... so, she was guaranteed a spot in this year's presentation... TCM REMEMBERS is also known for the formula that the last spot in the memoriam is usually reserved for the person TCM sees as the most impactful loss for classic films that year...and, where any other year where people like Debbie Reynolds or Jerry Lewis would have surely been that person...it's very fitting that Robert Osborne got that spot... plus...I defy anyone who didn't choke up a bit when they showed Debbie giving a kiss to a baby Carrie Fisher...

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Mr. Osborne at the Lucille Ball Birthday Festival and Celebration in Jamestown, NY several years ago. He was certainly very pleasant and down to earth, caring and a real gentleman to his fans, and did not rush me through the meet and great get together after his presentation. As soon as I finally was able to make it to the stage, he put his arm around me and said " you deserve a kiss for waiting in line so long". He gave me a nice kiss on the cheek and a big hug! I was so sad when I heard he passed away several years later, but was very blessed that I had the pleasure of meeting him. I am sure he and Lucy are watching over all their fans. The festival was so enjoyable. So much to do and so many places to go and people to meet. My mom and I even spent an extra day. A wonderful mother-daughter weekend full of the best memories🙂. I always choke up at these no matter the year or the personalities. It's a stark reminder to anyone with two brain cells that our day will come as well and soon. The beautiful part to this is that these are some of the people that make this crummy world we've constructed into something far more beautiful because of their work and effort. With the people in the arts, I'm not sure I could have ever lived this long. We'll spend trillions on killing people and war, but can't seem to find any money to create a bit more love.

Nicely done TCM. Yes, one can't include everyone who passed away. How many times has AMPAS (Oscars) and ATAS (Emmy's) miss people? Still, these people will be missed. I also agree that adding Robert Osborne-a huge part of TCM- was a nice touch.
@ThylekShran7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for uploading, TCM! Beautiful and well done, as always. I wish you had included Carrie Fisher like I asked. I know you edited her into last year's, but it was done rather shoddily, IMO. Also Carrie should have been in the same tribute with her mother, and as I knew would happen, people on both KZbin and Twitter are asking why Carrie was omitted. I told you most people hadn't seen the version of the 2016 tribute with Carrie added in, but you wouldn't listen. That said, the clip in the 2017 tribute of Debbie holding a baby Carrie was a very lovely touch; thank you for that. Overall, another fine tribute to those that have left us -- and that ending dedication to Robert Osbourne is so sad but perfect. Ow, my heart. Thank you, Mr. Osbourne and to all of you we've lost this year. And thanks again, TCM. :')

Chuck Amuck Carrie Fisher is another fantastic actress who they forgot to mention. TCM needs to honor EVERY celebrity which we lost this year. They honor Glenn Campbell,but not Tom Petty? Tom did some acting too. I mean....seriously wtf?
@ThylekShran7 жыл бұрын
They didn't forget her, they edited her into the 2016 tribute after its initial release; you can find that version here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2Krp2unhdiWZtU. My issue was with the way she was shoehorned into video, after the usual cut-off date, thus preventing her from having a full spot in this year's tribute alongside her mother. They should have just added Zsa Zsa (who died Dec. 18) and held Carrie for this year. Had they done that, we wouldn't be having so many people asking why Carrie Fisher is missing. I told them most people hadn't seen the version of the 2016 video that had Carrie in it, but they either didn't heed my words or they didn't see my messages.

Sadly, TCM already has one person to include in TCM Remembers 2018: Oscar-winning film editor Jerry Greenberg died this week at the age of 81. Among the films he edited: 'The French Connection' (for which he won his Oscar), 'Apocalypse Now,' 'Kramer vs. Kramer,' 'They Might Be Giants,' 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,' 'Heaven's Gate,' 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation,' 'Awakenings,' 'American History X' and Brian De Palma's 'Scarface,' 'Dressed to Kill' and 'The Untouchables.' He was also an assistant editor on 'Bonnie and Clyde' and 'Reds' and music editor on 'A Thousand Clowns.' In addition to his Oscar, he won a BAFTA (also for 'The French Connection') and received a Career Achievement Award from his guild, the American Cinema Editors (ACE), in 2015. He was a giant in his field, a true master of his craft, and an absolute gentleman to boot. I think it's safe to say he has a spot waiting for him in next year's tribute.

Or whoever they believe in! (But Wm. Peter Blatty definitely, he was a devout Catholic!)

I know we all have to go sometime, but geesh...this seems like an awful lot of passing for one business in one year. Rest in Peace to all of them. Especially Robert Osborne, his hollywood knowledge will never be surpassed!

It is surprising the actors you remember but suddenly learn of their passing. I didn't even know Powers Booth and Stephen Furst passed away. God rest their souls.

Also, the ending with Robert O. was lovely; I like how they didn't have put his name on the screen, or his qualifying credentials, though I would've love to have seen the words "Robert Osborne - TCM".

I think the idea was that everyone who was a fan of TCM (and classics in general) knows who he was -- no explanation needed.

These are amazingly well done. It is sad to see so many great actors and actresses and others in the film industry pass. What a great legacy they have left though. Thank you for this. Very well one. What's theme of the song it was set to?
