I saw ZZ for the first time yesterday. Elwood on bass. I’m a lifelong fan, 41, from the same town as Elwood, and I didn’t know what to expect. But they were GREAT. This was an event, not just a concert. Seeing the Rev is one of the coolest highlights of all the rock n roll I’ve seen. They were loud. They played all the classics you wanted to hear. They were just damn cool. 10/10 show. I have mutual friends w/ Elwood and I’m proud to say so. What a guy. Rock on, Elwood.

@jaysantos5362 жыл бұрын
you must have not seen many bands.......They were "good" live but NEVER great. and they stopped being good right arond 1978 when they started palying pop singers instead of bluesy LPS like the first three. Their "act" has been boring for many deacdes...
@jaysantos5362 жыл бұрын
@Lawrence Carver ZZ Top was at their best about that time BUT never as good as Deep Purple, especially with Gillan and Glover. I'm surprise Purple shared the stage with ZZ Top even then. BOC was a great live band but better a couple years late and Savoy Brwon was OK but FAR better after turning into Foghat in 74-75. Overall a GREAT lineup there! Billy Preston was a throwaway......
@jaysantos5362 жыл бұрын
@Lawrence Carver Sorry your "list" doesnt measure up to mine. Doobie, foreigner, Little river Band, ambrosia, are ALL lameass bands ans hardly "rock" more like "pop". As far as the Stones? Saw them in 76 in a small concert hall in Fort Worth and they were pretty good. In 80 Tangerine Bowl..Van Halen blew them off the stage. (VH also blew Journey off the stage in 1978 as well as Black Sabbath later the same year). thats how GOOD VH was early on. ZZ Top was really good 69-74 when they played heavy blues/rock but then went "commercial" with garbage like Sharp Dressed Man and Cheap Sunglasses and had VERY few decent songs (or shows) after that. Foghat (74-80) was far better than Savoy Brown because of Lonesome Dave, Rod Price and their far better setlists and great shows. Best "LIVE" Rock and Roll Bands 1971-1992? #1 THE WHO by far 71,73,76,79. Deep Purple was second 74,75, 76, 82 tied with Van Halen 78, 79 ,80. Other GREAT live bands I saw were Jethro Tull 71, Montrose 73 with Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Montrose 78, Jo Jo Gunne 73, Ten Years After 74, 76, 78, Golden Earring 73, UFO 77.78. 79, Scorpions, Triumph 1979, Nugent 76, 78, Aerosmith 75, 76, 78, Peter Frampton, 73, 75, 76, Eddie Money 77, 78 ,79, 84, SRV 79, 80, 81 and Jeff Healey Band 92. Gotcha...
@jaysantos5362 жыл бұрын
@Lawrence Carver Partied with Canned Heat? LOL. I hung out with Foghat and Eddie Money after their show in Lakeland Fl in 1980. ALL those guys were funny and friendly dudes both to the guys as well as the chicks they were looking to go to bed with that night. Lots of fun drinking beer with no hard drugs in sight. Of all the bands you listed I saw EVERY one of the "good" ones including Guess Who, REO, Santana, Bad Co., Ronnie James Dio (when he fronted Rainbow), Bob Welch and Alice Cooper (and even ran into him walking into the Holiday Inn elevator in Fort Worth 1978). He said hello and asked if I was at the show. I said "Yeah, were you?" and he just smiled and "I think so." Funny guy. Boston was the absolute WORST sounding band ever LIVE (Sammy Hagar opened) and Styx, Cars, Damn Yankees, Grateful Dead, Rare Earth, Wet Willie, Steve Miller, BTO, Bob Seger, Dylan, and Elvin Bishop were all just bad bands with bad music.

Elwood has been part of the ZZ Top family for a while, and watching all those shows from the sidelines instills more of the soul of what Dusty was layin' down rather than an outsider coming in and just playing the right note's. This comes naturally to him and the band knows it and that's why Dusty gave him the nod at the end. RIP!

My wife is much younger than me but is also an eclectic listener. She saw they were on tour (with Elwood) and immediately bought the best tickets available. The "Little Ole Band from Texas" are the BEST!!! My personal favorite without any doubt! Very happy to see and hear that Elwood was able to fill a portion of a void in the band. As we all know, Dusty will never be replaced, but his rhythm is able to continue on. I can not imagine the void that Billy and Frank feel without Dusty. Gentlemen keep pressing on!! The songs, lyrics, and vibe your band has given people over the last fifty years will never be replaced or duplicated. Your band has touched the lives of people from your age group to the current kids today. I can attest to this and have witnessed this as a forty year old father with a 5 year old son. He jams to ZZ top every time he hears the band on any media. Just dropping a line to keep the movement and motivation going.

I am a big ZZ top fan and have been from there beginning.. Amazing how they stayed together for all those years. This guy has big boots to fill.. ZZ at there best was the first 3 or 4 albums in my opinion.. if you really want to hear Billy at his best listen to there 1st album and it's in my opinion was the best . Of course they changed over the years and that's not a bad thing just different like another band.. I sad that Dusty passed and may he RIP.. But nobody can replace him he was such a foundation of the band . But life goes on the world doesn't stop turning.. I am sure he will do a good job to keep ZZ going. But we will miss Dusty he was a part of the three part recipe that made ZZ It would be an honor to play his part for anyone. So congrats to Elwood on his new gig..

I also liked the earlier songs best. I guess my favorite albums were Tres Hombres and then Fandango. Loved that live intro on Thunderbird. Thanks for the post Mike enjoyed it.

I just saw Elwood perform over the weekend 7-30-22 in Cincinnati with ZZ Top and they were ALL Amazing!!! Nobody will ever be able to replace Dusty but Elwood does a great job of respecting Dusty and being able to hold the line for him so that way Billy and Frank can still do their thing!!

WOW, as a life long Top fan I love this video and appreciate it so much. The story is incredible and so profound. Al though Dusty and the original ZZ top can never be replaced Elwood can most certainly help create a new era in the history and appears to check every box to fulfill that role.

I saw Elwood playing alongside of Billy & Frank at a ZZ Top show in British Columbia, Canada about 5 weeks ago. He did a fine job on bass and fit in well with the band. From what I could see and hear, the audience approved! ZZ Top lives on!

My wife, son and I are big ZZ fans just like millions of other folks. I heard that Elwood got his start as a punk rocker and then Joe Perry's guitar tech. That's all I knew. But with that info we saw ZZ last summer in Pennsylvania. We were NOT disappointed!! The MAN CAN PLAY!!! THANKS ELWOOD for having the kahunas to step in and fill The Dust's huge shoes!!! You did Yourself, Dusty, Billy & Frank proud!! Not to mention all of us ZZ Top fans!!!! Legend has it that after he played his last gig and was clearly hurting Dusty told Billy that the "show must go on". Don't know if that legend is true, but the show has certainly continued on!!! Thank you Sir for this video. ZZ Top was one of my Mom's favorite groups. I can remember her playing the album Fandango on our old 8 track stereo. Mom's been gone now, about 6 years. It bothered me too here that Dusty had passed. I was fortunate to take my Mom and Dad to see ZZ Top on their Antenna tour, where a rowdy group of Southern guys opened for them, Jackyl was the band, some may not have, but I enjoyed these guys too. So did my parents. But anyway, my Mom loved ZZ Top and was so glad we got to see them. I'm so glad they're keeping it going. Thanks again, just wanted to share a little memory of mine.

Thanks for sharing. Glad it brought back some good memories. Jackyl played down here at a Harley Bike Week. It was outside and about 5000 people. I thought they were good too. Enjoyed them.

Thank you for this. I've been a ZZTop fan since I was in the single digits. I was lucky enough to see them in Louisville Kentucky years ago. It was a kick in the gut when Dusty passed. But, I am truly thankful that they're continuing on and Elwood is keeping that groove going. I'm sure Dusty is smiling down knowing that Billy and Frank are still playing the music that he helped create.
