Krokodil is actually a pretty safe drug, it's desomorphine. All that skin loss on the news was because of the phosphor intoxication due to bad fabrication. [Hamilton Morris talked about this once]
@seanjones4726
@seanjones4726 4 жыл бұрын
Desomorphine was proposed to be the main product of the clandestine synthesis of krokodil, but lab replications of this method have found it to be a very complex mixture of known and novel morphinans. Its a pretty fascinating synthetic route that has some potential to spark research in novel opioids, but complex drug mixtures are never to be regarded as safe without extensive research, and you're absolutely correct that phosphor and other by-products in krokodil are responsible for its absurd toxicity.
@CarbonatedGravy
@CarbonatedGravy Жыл бұрын
I see it as one of those things where krokodil is specifically the street name for the street drug, especially considering it’s named after it’s effects on the skin after regularly injecting it, so does that refer exclusively to the corrosive basement lab junk or is it a nickname for desomorphine in general? I feel like that wouldn’t be accurate, if someone were talking about pure properly synthesized desomorphine they probably wouldn’t call it krokodil or at least less likely to, where certain other nicknames like gear, speed, dope, smack etc. would retain it no matter how pure or impure it is

I knew a dude bro type that was more of a frat boy/jock type than your typical psychonaut, and he used to do pretty high doses of acid fairly frequently. For him it was just a fun party drug, and he seemed as immune to insights as he did bad trips. It made a strong impression on me as to how much the sort of person and general mind set one has brings to a psychedelic experience.

I really like the point that both of them discuss in regards to waiting until your brain has fully developed before you first try psychedelics. Seth also talks about how you should wait until you have achieved a refined maturity before you attempt to take them. I couldn't agree more! Young people have a difficult time with understanding the intensity that naturally resides in psychedelics. For example, if I were 15 years old and had an ego death I can't really say that I would be ready for such a strange and intense experience. I would probably be extremely scared during the trip which isn't what you want for your first time. In addition to these points, you guys mention that trips are unlike any other substance in that you must be prepared for what you're getting yourself into. Before I took acid I made sure that I watched both of your videos describing the pharmacology, trip reports and personal recommendations. Anyways, I just made this long ass comment so that the novices out there can be prepared. I can definitely say that thanks to my preparation and caution helped me have a fucking amazing trip the first time I tried LSD. Since that time, I have had nothing but good experiences with LSD. I've tried doses varying from about 30 micrograms all the way up to 700 mics. LSD is absolutely amazing and purely an insightful learning experience wrapped in a blanket of bliss hahaha. Anyways, sorry for the long ass comment. Thank you two so much for making these vids and informing the public about the potential of these substances!

After trying a good amount of psychedelics I've found that I get the most profound effects from my bad trips. They consistently put my life into perspective in a way that regular ones don't and I've never had any lasting anxiety or dissociation from one. For this reason I've purposefully used many psychedelics while in a bad set so I can get a sort of a reality check from it. Though of course I'd never recommend this for anyone else. Psychedelics in general are just very different for me. An example being that serotonergic drugs almost never give me visuals, even on higher doses

I have to make one comment about your conversation... When you started talking about bromo dragonfly, you seem to have this stance, that it could only be bad. I like what Hamilton Morris says about this, that a substance is not inherently good or bad, but rather, it's how people use them. Maybe bromo dragonfly could be found to cure cancer someday. Demonizing a drug, even a potentially harmful one, is very bad.
@TheDrugClassroom
@TheDrugClassroom 5 жыл бұрын
I regularly defend oft-criticized substances like 25I (by extension bromo-dragonfly, likely) and I believe Hamilton and I agreed on this topic when we spoke ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3-vlGufaNOej8k ) what you were picking up on was probably just me not being clear enough about my stance. There are very few, if any, drugs I believe should outright not be used. But there are, of course, a number of drugs that require such a narrow path be walked for safe use that the general position for a mass audience should be that people be biased towards using safer substances over them.

1:36:15 delirants for me feel very similar to weed I didn’t get vivid hallucinations of phantom people or whatever, and I knew and understood that what was going on around me was just the effects of the drug. But with that being said the effects I got were seeing strange visual patterns, thought looping, feelings of anxiety or panic, fast heart beat, extreme thirst, strange uncomfortable sensations, and also feelings of heavy ness.

first trip I had no real idea except friends telling me it wasnt like the drugs i was used too and I would love it. I ended up in the central station of town and almost got on a train but realized that would be dumb since I started coming up. The person I was too trip with had gotten a call from her mother on her comeup (like 15 mins in) so I texted two friends and went to the city and met them. They obviously figured that could go bad but I had no real care in the world and was used to doing drugs in public, why was acid any different? We moved to a park and sat smoking in middle of town for a few hours, then I took a walk with a friend to check out the city. But yeah, set and setting are great but what really matters imo is where you are at mentally. I really wanted to die, so I was never scared of any of my psychadelic experiences which later were huge amounts of RCs. Not having a fear of death or breaking your mind is an essential part of tripping for me, but since tripping did evnentually (or just hard psychadelic, disso and ecstasy use) made me realiize life was worth living and that I belonged. Have only the last two months felt suicidal in the 8 years since then. So psychadelics saved me, but it also fucked me up doing so much and not being scared so all the trips went awesome until they didnt after a long break. I have had ok trips after the bad ones but I cant really have a good trip anymore, feels different, like I fried my brain too young. Anyways, in a few years Ill try again, Im sure it will work out. My point here is that we didnt hide indoors or plan to trip all the time, we just did and quickly realized that it was ok. Now some things are important to remember, that you are cognitively impaired or perceptually altered atleast is one. I remember once a friend punched one of my buddies in the face on acid. We calmed him down and laid down a rule of never using physical violence on psychadelics which I stick to heavily, since you probably are not able to make a judgement about such things. Also traffic, heights etc. But Its not that hard, and unless you go psychotic and start running round I doubt there will be any problems as long as you keep your sourroundings in mind and go as a group. And if you do trip outside or at a rave especially (somewhere you dont want a bad trip and cant just sit and mediate it away) bring Alprazolam. 5mgs is a perfect trip killer for an intense bad trip, just dont smoke any weed on it or it will all come back ;) Trip wont go away completely, but basically. Also it will calm your panic, which helps calm the trip and reduce visuals. Really suprised at how well it worked when I resorted to it once. But it left my trip unfinished and I was hurting for long after feeling like I had failed and stuff like that, childish, probably just cause I was 17 or so at the time.

I don't see any videos about the use of Gabapentin for a less brutal heroin/ opiate withdrawal. I know the scientific studies are almost non-existent, but it's an important issue, that could greatly help those wanting to quit, but are terrified of the painful symptoms. If you could address this I'd greatly appreciate it!
@TheDrugClassroom

Interestingly, this was an area of focus in some of the research on pregabalin (very similar to gabapentin). It looks like it could be useful in some kinds of withdrawal, so it's definitely an area to explore. At least in some of the case reports pregabalin greatly alleviated opioid withdrawal symptoms, but we don't have much research on it. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll see if there's a way for me to talk about this topic specifically and drug dependence more generally.

Thanks for the harm reduction talk, I’ve been really put off lately by people who brag if they’re even telling the truth that they took mda/mdma, 2-cb, 5 tabs/grams and took a 70mg bit of dmt at the peak they did all this math to figure out. That doesn’t sound fun, sit back and enjoy the ride not wait around for an alarm to go off to take your next drug. Then they get so wrecked they don’t even remember the experience.

Just fired up this video now and 4 minutes in and I like how you guys refer to alcohol for what it really is, "a drug" and that most people, unfortunately, just don't think of it or see it that way. UK Professor David Nutt (drug psychopharmacologist & psychiatrist) makes it clear as well, in his science lectures and in the "david nutt, lancet report" - alcohol was rated worse of a drug, than heroin in terms of overall harms and dangers. It's all in the UK report. =)

The problem with it is this Eastern European "street synthesis, using gasoline, red iodine, and codeine tablets; binders, fillers, and all. Their reaction usually doesn't complete properly and the yield is still full of gasoline/filler/iodine contaminats and impurities. Very little of the chemical cocktail reaction yields complete desomorphine.

We need more people advocating for safer use of these incredible compounds. One day I'll do DMT, it's definitely on my bucket list and has been since i was about 14(23 now), but I'm in no way going to rush into it although I have access to DMT any time I want, these are not compounds to be messed around with all willy nilly. I wish younger people could see that and take precautions, but, it's very difficult to convince young people to not be reckless

At 22:10 when Seth said that he has been asked the question: "Should i take lsd at 10 pm when my parents are asleep". This instantly reminded me about my nonexisting critical thinking skills at the age of 19. Long story short, i was in my room while my mother was sleeping in the living room which was right beside my own room (Literally 5 meters from me with a wall between us). I decided to take 5 grams of some pretty potent mushrooms. Let's just say it didnt go as expected.. 30 minutes in i was like "I can't make it through the night, i gotta wake her up and tell her this or i might commit suicide. I remember bits of the night laying on the couch, hearing her cry out "What if youre never gonna be yourself again. Worst night of my life and since I've had the utter most respect for any kind of drug, EVER. A little while after I discovered TDC and have been very fond of the thoroughly researched information that this channel provides. Thank you so much Seth!! Btw awesome podcast! I had been feeling fantastic for the past week or so before doing it and after the trip i'm still doing well. I got trapped in the tunnel and it was over within minutes. For me it was like a rollercoaster. It went by so fast that I didn't have any time to stop to really think about anything that was happening. I know some report not feeling right for periods of time after it, but other than having a bit of a shiver for an hour and a sore throat for the day (its rough on the chest) there wasn't much of an after effect. I really want to know whats on the other side of that tunnel though. Its so inviting and mysterious.

It's not a fake spirit or something like that, in my opinion, it is the universe's spirit communicating through various experiences, be the experience drug induced, or a dream, or came.from meditation,deprivation tanks etc... I also think that different chemicals/methods of achieving altered states of.consciousness have each it's characteristics. Wich can be interpreted as a personality or spirit of their own. (but I think it's all one)

I've had HPPD for 20 years. Didn't even know the clinical name for it until a few years ago. I've always called it visual static coz it's very much like an untuned TV but finer grained and translucent or like the air is full of it. It's more animated the more tired I am. Only met 2 people who'v had it. One was a girl talking to her Mate in a coffee shop I was working in. Really wasn't trying to eavsdrop but she was saying she'd just been to Glasto n done acid for the 1st time and since had what sounded like HPPD and anxiety and insomnia. So I told her it was prob HPPD and said if she goes to her GP and says that n asks for valium that'd sort her out. She came back month or so later and said thanks it worked. Looking back, the funny thing is that was just something I'd read. I did believe it would help TBF, but I'd never tried it. If I woke up and my static was gone I'd really miss it. Not sure I could stand the stillness or plain white walls.

Idk if you’re the kind of person who just wants to get fucked up and takes acid with the justification that it’s “therapeutic”, then you’re gonna wear it out, have some bad trips on the way, but that won’t stop you so you’ll eventually start seeking DMT. And this is the first step that makes serious change possible, for some people. I had very bad trips where I (once) considered suicide to end it. I was with other people. They were tripping too, but not as hard. I’ve had other experiences, notably one with 7 grams of albino penis envy mushrooms, where I was convinced I was about to die/had just died. Maybe some people would end up hurting themselves, so I whole heartedly agree with the philosophy of harm reduction. But I feel like DMT is kinda the best thing to happen to a polysub addict apart from permanent recovery itself

Watched your video with Adam. What a terrible waste of LSD. You should be ashamed of yourself for taking such a gift in such a sensory deprived setting. I would never consider consuming a hallucinagion in such a sensory deprived situation. Over here we get liquid acid and if you want to realise what this compound is capable of I suggest you return this message. If I could attach a photo of the environment that I choose to undertake these experiences I would, but you will have to contact me if you want to achieve a level that you can only dream of. Also have a mate that harvests local acacia.

oaksterdam Is it bad? I've had visual snow since i can think so the impact of my pretty heavy usage of psychedelics in my later teenage years didn't really bother me at all. It actualy had more positive than negative impacts on my life. I always was a guy who only enjoyed very high doses of canabis because i'm always searching for the psychedelic effects. It was always very psychedelic for me but since my usage of serotonergic psychedelics it's even a fullblown psychedelic visualy. But i can imagine how someone who used to see the world completly clear could be annoyed or even frightened by such a change.

I'd love to meet you TDC and Adam. I suffer from Social Anxiety and would love to see how I act on LCD with people I trust. I wonder if i'd be more sociable? Or maybe It might get worse? I'm 24. Maybe it's time to try it. I think people who believe in anything like Ghosts, spirits, etc are a little niave (anyone over 16 i'd say) I can let younger children off because they have not had time in life to figure out what is and isn't real. But don't they feel silly talking about them seriously over the age of 16? By all means explain logicaly how someone might have 'thought' they experienced something 'supernatural' Unfortuently most of the people who bring up the Subject of supernatural sibects often can't. I find it hard not to smile when people mention Ghosts 😁 Little dissapointed that Adam buys into the Supernatural stuff. You have just ingested a chemical. Is it not logical to assume that the chemical is the factor and that it could be making you see 'Entites'?

Merlin if you're still around I would personally say no to LSD or any other thing that strong. A safer bet would be pregabalin or gabapentin as they help with GAD and create a desire to socialize.

The reason alot of people do L in festival scenes is because they are surrounded by happy people who will help to uplift you. Whenever I"m at a festival i'm surrounded by friends, and friends of friends. Much safer than trying to conquer a trip at home on my own.

GilgameshEthics On a low dose this might be true but when you fully loose controll over everything it's better to just lay down, concentrate on the trip and accept everything that comes to you. At least for me.

+duck Everybody is different maybe. If i'm going to possibly lose control I want my family there to help me if required. And my family is in the festival scene. So it's the safest place for alot of us to really blast off. Plus i'm talking small festivals with security who blow down with me. Not like bonaroo or nothing. On a high dose, you better at least have a sitter in the other room over. I've seen too much.

GilgameshEthics I guess you're right. We are definetly all different. And I know for me personally that i don't want to have anybody in my room when i have a high dose of a psychedelic. I still only trip when i know that as soon as i leave the room there is someone to help me and the room is safe so i can't hurt myself at least physicly.

I love how he says "when you die your consciousness ends", as if he actually knows hahaha. Has he ever been dead before?
@b.g.5869
@b.g.5869 3 жыл бұрын
We don't know for certain but there is a staggering amount of evidence indicating that consciousness is dependent upon particular brain processes. That's why we can render someone unconscious with drugs that suspend particular brain processes. We see people lose their memories and forget who their spouses, children, grandchildren, and ultimately even who they are with certain degenerative brain diseases. You take a drug that your brain treats like a neurotransmitter and your consciousness is radically altered. This all strongly suggests that our conscious experience is dependent on brain processes and cannot survive death. So all the evidence points there. For obvious reasons, most people don't want this to be true because they don't want death to be the end. But it's a motivated belief with virtually no evidence to support it whatsoever. We don't know for certain that our conscious experience ends at death, but it certainly appears to be the case.

@@cysilversoul I've smoked DMT a bunch of times and know exactly what it feels like. There's literally nothing dumber a living person can say than "I died" _except_ "I smoked DMT and died." Assuming you've ever even done it, if you did, you would have had a short but intense psychedelic experience. That's not what dying is.

@b.g.5869

The irony with Terrence McKenna is that after a really bad mushroom trip at the end of the 80s (before his peak of fame), he stopped using psychedics, something he kept to himself. Pretty hypocritical and irresponsible, considering his frequent recommendation to take mushrooms in heroic doses. It's almost like he wanted people to have a horrible experience like he had. Years after Terrence McKenna's death, his brother Dennis released an advance copy of a chapter of his forthcoming book revealing this, and talked about it in interviews as well, also pointing out that Terrence looked down upon the people that attended his lectures as being mostly freaks. After that, all hell broke loose. Terrence McKenna fans were furious, some turning against Terrence and others denying the new revelations could be true and slamming Dennis. Dennis and his publisher eventually caved, and that chapter never appeared in the version of the book that was released, and the offending interviews were taken offline. In subsequent interviews, when asked about it, Dennis only spoke about it I'm muted tones, meekly suggesting that Terrence _probably_ did trip once in a while on low doses or on pure psilocin etc.
