oil density and viscosity at that temp creates so much pressure on the hydraulic tappets, keeping the valves slightly open and piston losing compression. Not even the turbo can spin properly* if you listen carefully when it finally starts up. For those who don't know. This generation and the pd was the top notch for reliability. Read forums or ask a mechanic that worked with these engines. I don't know any other engine that can hold from factory 1.5bars (130hp) and last for over a million km. Different experiences different opinions.

Yeah the amount of ignorant greenpeace wannabes in the comment section is just mind boggling. We just bought a 2005 130hp 1.9 tdi pd passat. The last one with the torsen differential 4motion because haldex cant handle low end torque for shaite. Hoping to get the engine built for 300hp till the next summer. I just dont know if the garret gt2260v can go over 250hp. Oh well we can always just go with a T3/T4 and transfer the gt2260v electric servo to that one. And i find it funny when everyone is hating on the engine in this video and calling it crap when all there probably is wrong with it is only the glow plug relay/plugs and too stiff oil because there is not a single oil in the world that will handle -30c to -40c temperatures without heating element in the block or webasto fuel heater.

Brothers, this is typical car that have been imported from Germany to Poland. This car was driven by German grandfather only once a week to church, 150.000km on the clock (in fact someone have forget to put one more 0 in advert). This German grand father after he sold the car, (btw he sold it, for half of the actual value, just because he loves to sell good stuff cheap, this makes hi's cock hard) he was chasing buyer to the boarder because he changed his mind, and wanted to buy the car back, but he didn't manage... After the car arrived Poland, grandpa is ringing new owner every evening, just to listen to the engine sound, and he's asking all the time to put cold start videos on youtube.

Not to mention this is to the extreme, the worst you'll see without engine malfunction or modifications. My TDI runs rich and spews black smoke and still gets 40 mpg (6/100km). Nearly same size engine as most new cars. The black smoke is just unburnt diesel, it goes back into the ground, it's the gases released by both Gas and diesel that are damaging, and that's why we hate Catalytic converters.
