TDI Swapped 1 Ton Dakota First Start!!! Lots Of Details To Finish Up But It's Moving!

After installing the wiring I couldn't wait any longer to hear it running. Still have to setup the turbo and transmission to setup but at least I can drive it around the yard. I go over alot of details in this video including power wiring and kick down cable setup for an automatic transmission TDI swap.

do you have any videos on MTDI? also, what size and brand of intercooler piping are you using?

For under 250 HP I just use 2" universal piping off eBay/Amazon. Over that 2.5" is still plenty, no point in adding unnecessary boost lag. I want to set up an mtdi engine but I just haven't had time yet. It would really only be beneficial for doomsday haha

I have a mtdi, 12mm pump, made by hans in NC. .260 injectors. I couldn't tell you hp or anything but Dana 60, 35 toyo at3. 09 ranger frame with a mk1cabrio sectioned as the body. She boots. I'm running a 3x31x13 intercooler. With 2inch piping. Still stock everything but the fuel system. I still haven't done much driving with it yet, just around my village. I never ran it on an ecu, I just pulled it from the bug and through in the mech pump. I'm not running a lift pump though...... I feel this may be wrong even though I haven't had an issue yet.

@saleemcarr9501 I don't think lift pumps are really needed until over 200 HP you may feel it run out of fuel on the top end like on a long pull to 80 MPH, but under that you probably won't ever notice. Sounds like a pretty sweet setup!

@@saleemcarr9501 as far as i know, no VW that used the bosch VE pumps had any sort of lift pump from the factory, the bosch VE has an internal rotary pump that sucks fuel from the tank

​@@renosgarage7451 I'm 90% sure the pump that Hans built me is just a land-rover 300tdi pump. Or maybe its a 4bt pump. He shaved the number plate off, so I don't know for sure. But it looks almost exactly like a 300tdi pump.

This is the exact truck I want! If you had to choose to do this build in two stages: TDI swap and SAS, which one would you do first? Which transmission did you use? And transfer case?

I just did a 1 ton alh mtdi ranger! Why when its in the vw its not very loud, but in the truck it sounds like a 7.3? Any thoughts?

Great question, I think the insulated engine cover really helps, that and firewall insulation. It is way quieter in my Dakota with the hood closed than my jeep with fender vents and no Interior insulation

Actually that makes sense, I have inner firewall insulation, but nothing inside the bay and open fenders. I attached the 4.0 ranger 2.0inch muffler with no change in my neighbours opinions.

Ok random question for the crowd. I have #2 injector that doesnt seat correctly. It has play side to side when in its hole, maybe a 7thou shim can fit . I cleaned out the pocket and used a fresh crush ring and shes still leaking. Do i replace the injector or the head? Or do i suck and i need to repeat process untill its lickable clean? (It wasnt lickable clean) I replaced the rocker bolt after i cranked it enough to snap it. Now has a 10.3 from the bolt bucket. Its a just noticeable leak, after about 10 mins it looks wet around the injector and you can see a tiny tiny little bubble form when you get to around 3300rpm.

I put a 4.0 ranger muffler.....it does absolutely nothing for my mtdi,

@@TDISwaps over cooling will cost hp especially diesels. Just might be asking too much from the 1.9 .. Om606 are great engines. Not much bigger but tons of power .

@ktmfour1007 the VW thermostat stops 100% of coolant flow from the radiator, it only takes in what it needs. Check out my Chevy 1500 swap, it gets right up to thermostat temp even with a full size truck radiator. OM606 are almost extinct, especially out here in Wyoming. And parts are even harder to find.

@@TDISwaps cool lol. I often think a steam turbine on the exhuast too cool the turbo and make elctricity to make hho for fuel .. Also hho breaks the carbon up and cleans a diesel.and could extend range.

Water methanol injection will cool the turbo and add power.
