you have to turn the intake shaft 1 tooth clockwise then put the chain on it and turn the intake camshaft back 1 tooth anti clockwise on de mark without turning the exhaust camshaft then it is just right. That's how you should always do it, you can never put the chain on it when the camshafts are right on the camshaft timing marks. Your chain probably doesn't need to be replaced either

Thanks for your comment. My chain is well stretched, the chain tensioner is almost maxed out and I measured the old chain against the new one and it’s almost 1 centimetre longer the old one. The new chain goes on perfectly with the camshafts set to the timing marks BTW.

Normally the chain is tight between the sprockets. If the camshafts are on time, then there is no room to lift the chain over the sprockets without turning the sprockets. if it does work without turning the sprockets, the chain usually has slack between the sprockets, and they are no longer on time when you turn it around. if you did succeed then you are lucky

Hola desde Caracas Venezuela, gracias por los videos. Una pregunta, cuántos kilómetros tenía tu moto cuando realizaste ese ajuste de válvulas?
@TheGarage20183 жыл бұрын
Aproximadamente 100000 kilómetros

I am working on my tdm 850, from 99. Working on valve clearance now. I have removed the inlet camshaft, do you on purposely worked on just one camshaft at a time? Could i remove both camshafts without making it to difficult to put it back in time? Thanks for you videos!

Interesting until the last 5 minutes of Part 4, where i realise i don't have some vital knowledge necessary to complete the rebuild without breaking the engine. If you agree the comments from Richard de piesjart correctly describe how a timing chain should be fitted, would you please confirm this in your comments and possibly even re-shoot a bonus ending sequence to show how to complete the installation technique.

I’m currently working on a video on how to replace the timing chain on the Yamaha TDM900, it should be out in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully that will shed some light on the question. But yes, I agree, if you don’t know what you’re doing it’s not advised to mess about in your engine.

I agree with what Richard said.
