Thanks for your efforts to craft another episode. I’m very grateful. I observe that the designers are focused intensely on the nuances of the experience of the Director and players. Stuff is not going in the game just cause it’s cool or makes sense somehow. Everything seems to be thoughtfully balanced to maximize fun while minimizing effort and mental burden. I love it. ❤️

The complications list is indeed a wild ride. Seeing the full list reinforces the value of making the step Optional and director-gated. Based on discussions in the Discord, it seems directors feel wildly different from one another about how best to use them. One player opined that being forced to roll on the table would be a bad experience for them no matter what the result, while others felt simply choosing from the list is inappropriate for their style. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the discussion was talking about *when* to choose a complication. The section is near the end of character creation, right before class - but many of us think that complications are so varied and potentially character-defining, that they should be determined *first*. Once again Draw Steel establishes that every table will have its own culture and way of doing things, and that's good because it allows the game to suit the people playing. Top-notch design.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head. Each table is playing a different game, so we'll all be using complications in our on ways! My personal opinion is that complications should indeed come first, but I also understand that optional stuff should usually come last. We'll have to wait and see!

I agree with you that the hooks for items are A+. They are 1 line adventure prompts that players are motivated to participate in because THEY are the ones that want the consumable! Love it! Thanks for that shoutout as well!

At some point I want to make a DS product that's just a bunch of ideas for how to handle these hooks! I love them so much :D And you're welcome, I'm happy to share your creations!

I can't get enough of vague narrative consequences!!! As a GM my favorite thing in the world is to place a powerful ability in front of the players and watch them agonizing over the potential side effects or costs. So everything you mentioned in the video for consumable items has me so jazzed to see what my players do with them. Complications also sound super fun and I can see some of my players falling over themselves to inflict them on themselves.

Right?? These are honestly some of my favorite mechanics in the game so far! I bet my players will enjoy them as well.

I had the pleasure of reading one of aestus' adventures recently. That guy has an insane knack for making the kind of magic items that my players would love and very interesting monsters that I would want to run as the director.

@the_dice_society My favorite part was the magical armor reward towards the end and the optional monster fight at the end. No spoilers, but holy cow, they are awesome!
