I guess hanging out at the mall is not quite as popular with teenagers as it was back in the 80s...
@zachNet
@zachNet 5 жыл бұрын
oh, i assure you, it still is. this is coming from a current teenager who goes to the mall from time to time on the weekends. it just depends on the area the mall is in. it’s likely that this mall is in an area where there are rivaling malls that people would rather waste their time / shop.

My favorite was a more serious episode.... the one about the concert deaths.... they did a wonderful job with it, and I think it helped people understand better what happened. I also liked the one about the tornado.... when Mr. Carlson talked the little girl home alone who was so scared..... when they did serious episodes, they were even more fantastic. I miss GOOD television shows!

What he doesn't show you is that there are some stores on the other side of the mall that are also still open and heavily used, such as Kohl's, Bass Pro Shop and Babies R Us. Not too far from the arcade place, in the other direction, there's a gym and some batting cages that also gets a decent amount of foot traffic during the usual busy shopping times. Oh yeah, I also saw some police officers doing some training exercises in one of the empty anchor stores once.

I always wonder why they even bother keeping that dead mall open, wasting electricity running the lights, AC for a single business . Sad actually, I bet that mall was great in its heyday. Not like they can attract fresh clients to occupy the spaces. Next stop, demolition.
@invisi-bullexploration2374
@invisi-bullexploration2374 8 жыл бұрын
In the late 90's, maybe about 1999-ish the previous mall owners evicted several clients to make space for what they hoped would be higher end stores. It didn't work and turned the mall into the wasteland you see today. Said previous owners also introduced strictly enforced dress codes of all things. No jorts(really!), no hats, etc. I know several people who were asked to leave per dress code enforcement back then.

I grew up about 3 miles from this mall and went so many times over the years. They used to have a place called "time out at the court" in the mall that had miniature golf, arcade, ferris wheel. It was quite awesome as a kid! We used to go there for dinner back in the 90's! There have been a few resurgences of the mall. That is where I saw movies as a kid (not in the theater shown but in another theater that was located in the mall) It couldn't sustain because it got a name for being the center of a lot of violence. Oh well

Same here! I was a toddler in the mid-late 90s when Time Out was still there, so I never got to ride the farris wheel or do much, but I do remember playing in a sandbox and riding the red trikes through the kiddy obstacle corse and wondering why I couldn't go in the haunted house with my older sister during the Halloween season. I mostly remember it as Cincinnati Mills and shopping at Biggs and having lunch at the food court before me and my mom stopped in at the dollar saver theater to see an early matinee. I haven't been inside the mall itself probably since... 2009 or so, but seeing it in this video is just surreal. I do remember hearing about how people started robbing the stores once they dwindled down and idk it just kinda breaks my heart in the weirdest way.

@Jonathon Waser - I have lived in Cincinnati Ohio for a long time, and I was here when this 'Cincinnati Mills' Mall was alive and kicking, and now it's almost dead if it wasn't for the three stores still open (2 other stores are Bass Pro and Babies R Us). I personally think it's really in a Bad Location because there's also a 'Kenwood' Mall and the 'Try-County' Mall that is fully alive and kicking and both of those are in great locations with lots of stores and restaurants around it. With 'Cincinnati Mills, there is only the Red Lobsters Restaurant and that's all, and plus, there are no Buses that goes to the Cincinnati Mills.

Actually both sides of the river do work together on promoting the area. But Kentuckians would never consider themselves Cincinnatians and vice versa. In fact I always ask my Kentuckian friends when are they going to move to the smart side of the river. They sometimes ask me why Kentucky doesn't fall into Tennessee. Answer, "Ohio sucks." Then I ask, "What does a divorce in Kentucky and a tornado have in common?" Answer, "No matter what happens someone is going to lose a trailer."

Unlike the 80's and 90's malls today mostly nothing people want. Back in those decades there were stores galore and not only corporate but mom and pop or family owned businesses as well especially in the food court. I miss specialty stores, book stores, toy stores, music and movie stores, family owned jewelry stores, and video arcades. Back then the mall was the happenin' fun place to be. Today it's just sad and pretentious and reflects the sad state of this country that it has been in for 8 and a half years!!

Oh my goodness. That is Forest Fair Mall, between the Northwestern Cincinnati suburbs of Forest Park and Fairfield. I misspent a good part of my early 20s in that mall. It was huge compared to the existing malls in the area (Tr-County to the East and Northgate to the west). The food court had a working carrousel and three story Ferris wheel both indoors, at a time when nobody did things like that. Eventually, a number of more targeted outdoor gallery type shopping spaces opened a few miles north of there. Forest Fair Mall couldn't compete. In the late 1990s, the mall started going bankrupt about once every 18 months. After every bankruptcy, the mall would always reopen with even cheaper and more cut rate owners. I moved away about 12 years ago. I drove by about three months ago and assumed it was closed and abandoned because of the empty parking lot. Good to know somebody is still trying to figure out how to bring something back in that space. Thanks for the memories!
@johnsos9
@johnsos9 8 жыл бұрын
Forest Fair/Cincinnati Mills/Cincinnati Mall used to be very popular in the early/mid 90's. It had a huge arcade (not Arcade Legacy) called Time Out on the Court complete with Ferris wheel etc. They had a huge Biggs grocery store, several clothing, toys and electronics stores. They also had several high priced stores that the people of Fairfield and Forest Park couldn't afford. They tried a few times to revive it and even re-opened it as Cincinnati Mills back in 2004. Nothing worked and add the shaky economy which resulted in the mall's current state. It's as abandoned as you can get without it being officially shut down. If you go there a word to the wise would be to go in groups and don't stay in there too late at night. It's been known to have some skeezy people lingering around in it.

I worked maintenance there when it opened as Forrest Fair Mall in the late 80s/early 90s (still have one of my work shirts from it). But they were already losing stores back then. It was built in a bad location between 2 already established malls a few miles down I-275. You should go in there when it's raining. The roof leaks like a sieve. Luckily, I only stayed a few years.

If the owners of that mall are waiting for new tenants, i suggest they learn to pay attention to trends! Walmart, Amazon & On-line retailers killed most malls in America! According to another commenter, there's a big Bass Pro that is probably paying enough rent to cover basic maintenance. I'm guessing there's some behind-the-scenes wrangling going on about what to do with the place, so for the moment it's in "limbo".

I don't understand why malls died. You can't blame it all on AMazon, though I'm sure online purchasing did contribute to the closures. But those outdoor shopping centers are still popular, but gosh, on a hot summer day, you park your car, go into a store, buy stuff, get back in your hot car, move it about 100 feet, and repeat. I'd far rather shop in a comfortable, weather proof mall.

I worked at that mall back in the 90's. It used to be packed all the time. There was an ice rink, small amusement park that even had a ferris wheel, and tons of places to eat. There were even several night clubs there. As recently as 2010, the night clubs were still open but I think all that's left now is a Kohl's and Bass Pro. It was a good idea, but a lousy location. On either side of it, within two exits either way on the expressway are two more established malls. I think if they tore the whole thing down and made it an open air shopping center it would do very well.

That mall was a regular hangout of mine back in the 1990s. These days I stop there around once every 6 months or so. Just to look around and relive memories of what it once was. I was in there a few days ago and you can tell age is taking its toll on the place. The paint is fading, the ceiling is leaking water. Many of the lights were out. There were so few people in there and I just instantly got this creeped out feeling like I was being watched or followed. I did not stay very long, maybe 20 minutes and got the hell out of there. It will never be the same.

I'm from Cincinnati about 20 minutes from the Cincinnati Mall that you went to it used to be called Cincinnati Mills. When that Mall opened I do believe it was the late eighties my mom was invited to the Grand Opening because she ran and operated a Hallmark card shop at two of our malls here. It open with a concert with Marie Osmond. They had high hopes for that mall and it instantly went downhill. It was one of the first cheap Cinemas that opened it was a dollar-fifty to see a movie! along with it opened a Giants game area rides and concession stand was almost like a mini amusement park. the anchor stores that opened were way too expensive for this area. Then they tried to revive them all by making an indoor outlet mall but they didn't have any big-name stores so that failed. everything that's going on there has generally failed and operation it's kind of sad because it's a nice Mall. as for a war between Kentucky and Ohio yes that does happen sometimes here. Especially during our big fireworks that annually happen on Labor Day weekend people line up by the thousands and thousands on the Kentucky side and Ohio side to watch the fireworks on the Ohio River through our local radio station webn

I have A TON of childhood memories in this mall. It was originally named "Forest Fair Mall". I lived less than a mile away from there between the ages of 9-13. At one time it was an epic mall. There used to be a ferris wheel in front of the food court. EVERY time I went to see a movie there they had the STICKIEST aisles. Worst/best theatre. The last movie I watched there was Independence Day. Bass Pro Shop is the only business that is keeping it going(but they're relocating to West Chester). I've been hoping you would vlog this site for some time. Love the videos Adam!
