Oh, I’m definitely watching this! And since Maggie and Judi have SUCH a close relationship, they’re great fun to listen to as they trade loving insults. In case you young whippersnappers don’t know, Joan Plowright was Laurence Olivier’s third wife (Vivian Leigh was his second wife). They met on the set of The Entertainer-she played his daughter. 😉 (If you haven’t seen The Entertainer, you should. It’s brilliant and amazing and depressing as hell. I think it’s arguably Olivier’s finest performance on film.) Maggie Smith played Desdemona to Olivier’s Othello; I was fortunate enough to see the film back in the 70s. So it’s very cool to hear Joan describe Larry as the most difficult actor to work with (he was exceedingly demanding in his quest for perfection), and fascinating to hear Maggie describe him as “tricky” to work with.

I wish this movie had/has a very long extended cut. Even my mother, who is not into bonus material, asked 'is there more on the dvd?'. And we sadly conclude there was not. But even more sadder is that the party wil go on with three instead of four dames 😞.

It would be even better if they included Dame Angela Lansbury. She is a friend of Maggie and Judi and a very close friend of Joan. Olivier proposed to Joan at a party in Dame Angelas flat in NYC, when she and Joan played on Broadway together. But I believe you can go on and on with a list who the filmmakers should included in that project. They are so many great Dames out there like Diana Rigg, Helen Mirren, Julie Walters, Penelope Wilton and Vera Lynn. I´m from germany and we dont have this type of classy , witty and sassy actresses anymore.
