I was so impressed by this video and the TEAC LP-R550USB that I bought one. I too got one off of eBay that was sold as-is because I had service it first but I got it all to function properly. Though it has speakers built in it really does sound great with a good pair of powered speakers attached to it and also as you suggested, I use it in a room where I don't need a large set-up of components. This handles nearly every type of music format I want to listen to. Perfect fit!

Best AIO I have ever heard. I thought my Jensen 1250 sounded pretty good when I bought it, but this TEAC blows it out of the water, for a very comparable price. I love that it has cassette adjustments for the tape type; don't know that I've ever seen that on an AIO before. It might be replacing my Victrola Empire Mid-Century in my front room next year (my Victrola is focused specifically as an LP and 45 player, though it does have CD and cassette capabilities). That's annoying. I am pretty young, currently driving my first car, a 2007 Golf. Its original radio, the RCD300, had a fun front-panel defect, so it wouldn't shut off anymore, it just would keep playing the same CD over and over, I couldn't set the volume either or interact with it in any way. I now upgraded to a current generation VW radio that miraculously was still compatible with my car's electronics. Now physical media in the car has died for me. Well, except for SD cards, but a 128GB card fits pretty much everything I am interested listening to in the car, so I won't take it out that often.

It's truly awful, and not befitting of the formerly great Teac name. The tape deck is also horrible quality compared to even the most basic of 90's entry level 2 head decks, with cheap and basic record/replay amps. There has been the absolute minimum of engineering gone into this. The only important criteria seems to be to cram as much crap as possible into it, without any thought to quality.

I just bought the black version of this , I already have the same coloured one as in this video but I saw the black version on eBay for £33 spares or repair. I thought for that price I could not let it pass, anyway it had a piece of the lid broken in the corner. That is not very noticeable , the listing said that the CD player was not working and the post that holds the tone arm was broke. I tested it when it arrived and apart from the broken post and a missing piece of plastic from the lid where the seller said that it was dropped while in the box. It was in full working order! The going rate for these is between £150-£200 so £33 including postage and packaging is a deal! So I have two of these fine devices and connected to a amplifier it sounds a lot better. If you're not in the mood for loud music, listen to it by its self. The bonus for my liking is recording my singles and albums as I have loads of them!

4:53 - "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" sounds awesome! 12:34 - Exactly the song I was thinking of when you mentioned track splitting with songs that have a long pause in the middle. The woodgrain finish is really spectacular. Is it genuine wood? Or has the "simulated woodgrain finish" industry finally cranked out something that looks real? I hate the glossy "piano black" fingerprint-magnet finish everything ships with these days. The whole unit seems to fit modern technology into a retro-style cabinet without getting tacky. It looks well-constructed and I couldn't discern ANY wow & flutter. I'm very happy to see Teac hasn't gone to crap like some brands have lately. All-in-all, a nice unit that covers most of the audio sources the typical home user would need. It would have been nice if they tossed an 8-track player in there, too, but if I were to buy this I'd probably plug in my Panasonic RS-803US into the Aux In jacks.

Hi Vwestlife, took the plunge and bought the 660 model just received yesterday. The main immediate differences from the 550 is the black glossy finish done tastefully IMO, the front screen is bright & clear different than the 550. The record player is head and heels better than the real cheapo on my Boytone unit. One thing I noticed is that when I paused a CD playback, and then resumed it, seemed to delay and or skipped just a bit. Also while playing a burned music CD which played flawlessly on the Boytone, skipped a little on the Teac. Something wrong with the CD player? Second point or question, i connected this to my DENON DRA 800H Receiver recently purchased. It can be connected in two ways: via the headphone jack with the appropriate connector 3.5mm plug to a double RCA cord, that way you can control the volume in 2 ways, using the Teacs volume knob and the Receivers volume; or connect the Aux out jacks on the Teac to the inputs on the Denon. Question about that method is this: the Denon has a CD input Jack or a standard input jack. Does the CD Input jack act as a DAC to the inputted sound? Thx again for your thorough vids . thanks for playing shot in the dark again. I keep forgetting to buy that vinyl.

I just saw this unit on Amazon yesterday but did not think much of it until I saw this video. I am curious though how it compares sonically with the Crosley 1975T stereo system (which I also saw your video on). I would assume the Crosley would sound better due to the audio technica magnetic cartridge, anti skate feature and separate speakers.

Hard for me to see and believe anyone gave a thumbs down on this one. You answered my question of what's on the back of this unit as every slik photo from TEAK I have seen only shows the front and sides. You also filled in the blanks on questions I had not even realized I needed to know. I plan on using my Denon surround sound amp and wanted to make sure it has compatible RCA outputs. Thanks... Are you aware of any audio recordings that take advantage of Surround Sound? When watching movies that use it, the extra channels really stand out. I recall back in the day, Quadriphonix (4 channel) gave it a try but was only broadcasted from limited stations and it never really took off.

I have one of these and am in the process of saving/recording my vinyl onto my pc so I can listen to the music in my car, on my phone, etc.

An extremely good and honest review. I was in a dilemma-- to buy the TEAC double cassette W1200 or this model LP-R550-USB. After your review, I am a convert. Will get this TEAC over the W1200. Thanks. Love from Bangladesh.

Really really excellent review video. One of your best yet. Can't wait for the upgrades follow-up. Do mention if this particular piece of kit has good-enough preamplification for the ceramic cartridge or if it too can benefit from an outboard ceramic phono preamp like the Realistic you showed elsewhere (which turns out are nearly impossible to find here in Europe...).
@vwestlife7 жыл бұрын
As I mentioned in the video, TEAC properly matches the impedance of the ceramic cartridge, so the sound you get from this unit is already the best possible from it.

@@vwestlife Would it make a big difference to connect Klipsch R-15PM speakers with phono switch on and use the lp gear cerapreme blue stylus on the cartridge? Compared to the stock stylus and speakers on the teac.
@01chippe5 жыл бұрын
The Klipsch speakers would be overkill as you can't turn off the phono pre-amp in the unit. Adding a pair of powered speaker would definitely boost the sound quality. He mentioned in the video that the Cerapreme blue stylus is a good upgrade for these units.

I recently bought a JVC L-E600 fully automatic linear tracking turntable, great machine but i noticed that it didn't open itself.. i had to lift the lid manually and because the stylus and tracking mechanism was in the lid... i needed to fix it. So i opened it up and found that on one side, the plastic part of a springloaded hinge was bust and the other side was also starting to crack... so glueing it back together wasn't an option.. and it turns out that it was a common construction defect.. so replacing was not an option, so i took my calipers and measuring the plastic piece of the hinge, recreate it in Sketcup, made some modifications to make it stronger and 3D printed it out for both sides by just mirroring the part, and voila! it works again. I have posted the stl file on thingiverse, along with the sketchup file for those who wanna modify it if they feel fit.

I wish others would follow Teac's lead and make *practical* all-in-one audio systems instead of the showy faux-vintage ones that are crap quality. That said, I don't remember you mentioning if this unit had any kind of equaliser or bass/treble adjustments. Love your videos ... keep 'em coming.

The TEAC LP-P1000 system has bass, treble, and balance controls, but their other models don't.

One week ago, I found a used TT on the curb while on a walk with my dad. We later had a conversation about the RCA 45 player my dad’s school used to have. He then suggested getting a record player. Why tell you this? I don’t know, but this was still a nice video! At least this one has SOME base. Wouldn’t mind it as a FIRST record player.

Just picked up a NOS one of these from a cash converters here in the UK. A great system, I would not say it was especially loud, but it does sound good. the Turntable especially is a cut above the average Crossley cruiser range of portable trash.. A shame the cassette deck does not record, but given the current standards of cassette recorders, that is probably no bad thing

This actually looks really good. You know if I had extra money I would probably go out and buy one of these. Thanks for doing these good videos. I'm really impressed with this unit. And I had one of those crosley's that I found at a thrift store and it did not perform well at all. This looks like something that one Auto get. It's got everything you want. And I'm sure even the millennials might use the a.m. and fm. Anything retro I think they like.

Thank you so much for this video because I have the LP500 machine available in the UK and I must admit it does sound better than the 'old fashioned' looking machines on the market. I use mine for tapes and a large collection of 78s and am well pleased. This video has bolstered my confidence in its further usage for CD recording. Many thanks.

An all-in-one that works well and isn't ugly? Awesome! It's nice that some companies are getting past the novelty retro-looking cheap junk and producing acceptable quality equipment. It's too bad it lacks a cassette recorder, but the CD recorder's capabilities almost makes up for it. Hey I wonder if that cartridge would fit in one of those narrow little BSR headshells? That might be a good upgrade, since it'll probably track better than the ones with the flip stylus. Haha that long pause in Roxette's "The Look", it triggers my tape deck's auto music search as well.

Amazing video... Thank You VWestlife... My unit's Turntable stopped spinning, there is NO Audio, Cassette Player stopped working. The CD door opens, and I can play the CD, but there is no sound. I used the unit days ago, all was fine. What could have happened?

I actually own the non-usb version of this unit and have been very happy with it. Replaced the stylus with an "improved" version from ebay, i think it was about 20€ before shipping and i think the sound quality improved further from already satisfying experience. Last week the turntable sadly started to make some weird noise, so i don't know how long the unit will last. Might just need some wd-40 but i have not yet checked if the unit even is easily serviceable. If it goes out i'm just gonna get a turntable, rarely use cassette or cd functions nowadays.

G'day, VWestlife! Marvelous review! I will agree, you have quite a lot of nice music... Plus, the LP-R550-USB CD Burner is a terrific bonus! "The sound is good coming out of the speakers, but when you add speakers by say 'Mission', wow! The record player is wonderful. All types of records play wonderfully on it, old and new too. I like seeing how easy replacing the needles will be, and you can buy spares. Every aspect of this record player is top notch." Cheers! :-)😊🎼🎷
@cletusspuckler22436 жыл бұрын
The needles are available , they are the sames as Crosley , but i recomend you to buy diamond needles ( the brown one in the video is a diamond , the red ones are saffire ) , diamond last longer and have better sound quality .
