I love the fact that a Craig turntable I have has the same stylus cartridge as what the teac has and other equipment you have shown on your main channel. I'm glad that you give a description of what type of stylus it takes. Because the model number Craig puts on my instruction booklet you can't find anything by that number.

I can't pop off the platter to get in to adjust the speed. It comes up on the tonearm side, but something is holding it on the opposite side. I can't open it far enough to see. Is there some kind of a hook holding it in place?

Thanks for the detailed analysis of the Exuby styli vs the Phanstiel 793-D7M. There are so many listings for styli for ceramic cartridges that claim to offer diamond needles but use photos that appear to be sapphire or ruby.

Thanks for the tips on the stylus. I have a Numark PT-01 and a older Crosley Traveler (a Christmas gift from my brother). Though I play mostly worn records on them, I'd like to upgrade both to diamond to get a little better sound quality.

Excellent follow-up video! I just received this turntable this past weekend and I'm absolutely blown away by the sound quality, even with the stock sapphire stylus. That being said though, going the diamond route will make it a much better experience for me not only because of enhanced sound quality, but many more hours of playback from a single stylus. And in terms of the speed, surprisingly, the speeds for both 33 1/3 and 45 seem to be just fine for me for what bit of vinyl I've played on there already. The pitch doesn't sound off or anything, and it sounds like how I expect it to. I unfortunately fell into the trap of getting that 3 pack of diamond styli that Amazon suggested (which is the one you recommended against), so now when those arrive tomorrow, I'll have to return those and then order 1 or a few of that other one you said was better. Fortunately, I did end up finding that particular stylus on Amazon, so I can just go ahead and order it from there. But for the time being, that stock sapphire stylus will definitely do until I get that diamond one.

saxman112 can you post a link to the stylus?
@01chippe

You're better off using a stylus with the plastic housing/cantilever. LP Gear has a good quality diamond stylus in the plastic housing. The reason I say this is the plastic carriers have a thicker cantilever which fits the cartridge better. The stylus with the metal cantilever is too thin and the prongs from the cartridge stick out too far and can rub against the surface of the record.

Hello. Thanks a lot for this helpful video. It's great. I have a question: I just bought this unit as second hand and unfortunately, the built-in speakers are buzzing as soon as it is powered on. I'm using the LP-R500 along with an external hi-fi amp and everything worked fine except that buzzing. I'm considering unplugging the internal speakers but since I'm no tech, I fear to do mistakes and damages. Do you have any tip on how to proceed (maybe some service manual?)and most of all, do you think unplugging the speakers can be of any help? Thanks.

Great video, but now I REALLY need your help. So I just got one of these Teac all-in-one units for a song! $60 including mailing from Iowa to Texas, and it is absolutely flawless except for a noticeable speed problem with the cassette deck. Since the plan was to transfer all my cassettes to CD, and they are my own demos of music I've written and recorded, I noticed immediately it was playing fast. It's about a half-step sharp of where it should be. From what I know, adjusting the speed of a cassette deck is as simple as turning a screw, but first you've got to get to it. I searched for a schematic, I wrote to some tech place, THEN I found your video, and you made it seem so simple, I was thrilled. So I removed the deck (btw, without removing the turntable) and went to turn the screw that you pointed at 9:13, but guess what? There is no screw. There's just what looks like black foam, and when I tried to push through it there was nothing behind it. Then, to make matters worse, I noticed one of the connections was disconnected. I don't know if it was like that, but I'm assuming I disconnected it accidentally. Unfortunately, but I have no idea what it came off of and can't see anything obvious. It's not a solder point, it's 2 wires (red & brown) with a small connector at the end. No idea where it goes. So now my new LP-R550USB is torn apart, and if you're absolutely sure that is where you adjust the cassette speed, I can't find it, and I can't put things back together until I figure out where these wires go and hook 'em back up. UGH. HELP!!

Thanks for your detailed review of this system. I was already interested and you gave me the nudge to buy it but I just have a small concern: When playing a record, the platter moves slightly up and down, one side at a time. It's only slight but still seems a little unusual - is this normal, something I should be concerned about and is there a way of balancing it so that it doesn't? Also to any Brits reading this - is there anywhere in the UK that I can get hold of the stylus replacements recommended in the video? Google is just returning US shops.

I have another question: I can play the Teac via a headphone jack connection to a Double RCA cord and attach it to my Denon Receiver to either of two RCA inputs (the Receiver is more geared to optical and coaxial connections). a Standard Stereo input or to the CD input. Or direct Line Out to either of the same input jacks. Which method do youn think works better? Using the Headphone jack , you can control the volume using the Volume knob on the Teac vs. not being able to to do that with the Line Out connection. Is there a separate rate of amplification using the Headphone Jack and/ot music coloration? THX for your advise.

How do I connect external speakers to the back? I used the auxiliary RCA jacks and connected larger speakers. I believe they are around 100 watts. Is it not designed to do thar output without an external amplifier? I did have luck runninga line from the headphone jack to a small 6 place board and to a PA system. I am basically just trying it, hoping not to blow a component. Will running the larger speakers from that same headphone jack cause a problem.

I don't like the Cerapreme blue stylus. It's not meant to be used with the heavier weight of the tone arm on this machine. I told them it was a bad design, and they said it wasn't. There is practically NO clearance between the cartridge and the record. I was getting unpleasant whooshing sounds on some discs because the prongs on which the cantilever rests protrude too far down and would scrape along the record surface. It's best to use a stylus with the thicker plastic cantilevers. Same issue with the Cerapreme 78 stylus.

Yes, if you hook the unit up to a computer using the USB cable, the computer will see it as an input device and you can use whatever audio software you want to record to any format you like.

I should have mentioned, there would be no need to record via usb as you could just record the tape to a blank cd at the standard cd resolution of 16 bit 44.1 kHz. With the included cassette player, there would be ZERO benefit in recording the tape at anything higher.

@camcordertests I know this video is 6 years old so I doubt I'll get an answer. I have the LP-P1000 and I cannot get the turntable all the way out like you did in the video. I've looked at all the comments and tried doing what they suggested, too, but to no avail.It seems to be on the left side there is more than just a clip. In your video at 6:03, see the metal spiral on the left, mine seems to be mounted. The others on the right side come out but not the front left. It's driving me mad! I just want to slow the speed. I cannot buy another since they are hard to find or I would. Please help!! I'll pay you for your time!

I can't adjust either the 45 or 33 as there doesn't seem to be any slot to adjust under the rubber cover. My unit is a LP-R550USB. Both 45 and 33 are running fast out of the box. I decided to buy the unit after seeing above video assuming the speed could be adjusted. Tried all sizes of screwdrivers and can't feel any slot to turn.
@bobmctyeire753
@bobmctyeire753 3 жыл бұрын
Update to above. Apparently, the newer versions moved the 45 and 33 speed adjust from the motor back to the circuit board next to it (like the 78 adjust). I didn't catch it as the motor still has the rubber openings but no screw adjustment inside. Looking carefully at video vs. mine, I realized there were 3 adjustments on my board instead of the one in the video. All good now.

You can, but you have to connect the speakers to a pre-amp/tape deck first and then connect that to the turntable via the rca outputs. I'm not sure if speakers that have rca cables can be connected directly (probably yes if they have their own power supply)

I never use the onboard speakers, so I can't comment on the quality, but I imagine the low wattage would distort easily. I use a decent set of computer speakers with a sub box. mostly because of the placement of the unit in my home isn't conducive to projecting everywhere. I also have it hooked to a Bluetooth transmitter so that I can wear headphones. No problems with it.

@@frankhilgenfelder1315 Hello. Can you please tell me exactly how to connect self powered speakers to my LP-R660USB Recorder? I assume I would connect two male RCA plugs to the Aux Output on the recorder and attach each of them to a speaker, correct? Does it require me to select "Aux" mode on the recorder? (If it does, that would preclude me from being able to play the phono, cassette, CD or tuner and there would have to be some sort of workaround I imagine.) Does playing music through external speakers require any additional equipment? Thank you.
@frankhilgenfelder1315
@frankhilgenfelder1315 4 жыл бұрын
@@kristineselmar The Aux button switches between what is being played, either the phono, tape, or the aux input on the back; it doesn't affect the speakers. The external speakers I use are a decent set of computer speakers with a bass box - not high end by any means, but they get the job done in my small apartment. Those typically have a 3.5mm stereo jack, which will work through the Phones output, or you could hook them to the back AUX out with a RCA to stereo jack adapter www.amazon.com/30S1-01260-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable-Connector/dp/B000I23TTE In that case, the speakers are already powered, so you wouldn't need additional amps. However, if you have just regular unpowered speakers, the amp in this unit probably isn't large enough to drive anything over a desktop size, and you'd need amp of some sort. That's why I would suggest powered computer speakers, since it's all-inclusive.

According to Vwestlife no. If a turntable doesn’t have adjustable tracking force 5 grams will usually be the default. I know 5 grams is sort of frowned on by the hardcore audiophiles who associate it with destroying records. No turntable would truly “destroy” the record. parden me but I have fixed these units and as for owning one I have owned a crosley and teac all in one and sold them due to not being happy with them . this may be better then a crosley but not by much . the only plus is a counter weight tonearm. that is a crosley cartridge they make a magnetic and ceramic and they are both not great . but the magnetic is much better. the turntable is cheaply made . plactic parts are a cheap way to make a turntable if it were really good it would be all metal but it is not .real audio gear is the best to have and use and then is not good gear it is cheap . all metal turntables are the best as well as good quality tape decks and cd players . and tuners . you may say this is great but it really is a cheap way to get people to buy something that will not last like real vintage gear will . you have n clue if I have had one of these or not so do not assume ok.

the turntable is cheap because it is all plastic so what if it has a counterweight it is still an all in one unit . which is a bad thing for people to play any records on . I have fixed these as well and they are just aa step up from crosley units . I had gotten my first all in one unit when I was 10 and therw it back at my parests and said I will not use it . I back then was into the knowledge of what real good quality electronics is .all in one units are crap no matter who makes them crap plastic platters and cheap motor and the only type of electronics I tell people to get is components and also tell them that if you want to ruin records then use garbage all in one units I am anti all in one . uniless the turntable is a vintage dual or garrard or pioneer or telefunken or perpetuum ebner then forget it . it is what it is an all in one junk pile . no good units should have to be adjusteed when you buy it that shows how cheap and junkie it is .and having a cd player in it is what makes this like all the rest of the garbage all in ones they make it look so much better then they really are .no matter what junk is junk . the amp is nothing to talk about . . you said something about cheap all in one system this is right there the sound is barley tolerable . and it is not loud enough and has not got enough base everyone that does videos on these types of units says the same thing oh they are great yes the only thing they are great for is a foot stool or fire wood

Just wondering, If I bought a new platter mat, says a 3mm one, seems thicker than the 4 rubber studs originally came with the system, do I have to do any adjustment on the tonearm or check the tracking force? Also, when I change the stylus, do I have to do any checking too? Bought a 793-D7M replacement for a CD stylus… many thanks in advance!
