Very nice and realistic review on the TEAC X1000R tape deck…
@blackwaterdogs42564 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this excellent video ! I currently have four functioning R2R decks, the X-1000R is probably my favorite. I used it to dub a pristine vinyl copy of Yes` "Close To The Edge" album, with the dbx circuit engaged. The tape quality is almost surreal, it causes people`s jaws to drop when I play it for them.

What else you use for jaw-dropping effect? I mean speakers, amp, etc.

Let me tell you about a piece of equipment I just got. A used Zoom R16 digital 16 track recorder. Records to a 32GB SD card. Something back in the day I could never ever ever afford to buy in an analog reel to reel. We have come a long way.

I have a TEAC X-1000RBL that I bought new in 1985, wonderful recorder with its DBX 1 Professional. I stored it around 1995 and just set it up a month ago and I changed the capstan belt as the old one did melt during the time it was stored. It seems to be louder on the right channel and the VU meters show the same discrepancy. I can compensate the difference by placing the left channel output to 5.0 and the right side to 7.0, not much but enough to limit maximum output level on old tapes playback. Since tech knowing their way around a reel to reel are few, what could be causing that if I record a mono source and the level is not quasi similar as in my case. Thanks for any head's up, I have a friend who could fix it with a little guidance as to where to look, everything else is fine.

Any thoughts on the feasibility of converting an X-1000 to half-track record/playback? What about using the X-1000's empty head location to put in a half-track head just for playback and being able to switch between that head and the original quarter-track playback head?

Nice. Ive got a Teac 2300SD in good working order. A few years ago I was walking down a street market in Amsterdam and there was a guy with a stall showing a range of R2R decks, and there was an identical Teac to mine. What are the odds?

if you got the tape from out of a cassette, can you play it on a reel to reel player? or is the ips completely out of range for a reel to reel?
@mariojohnson83174 жыл бұрын
Cassettes speed is 1.7/8 ips (4.75cm) and some reel to reels do have this speed but the tape on the cassette is not as wide (about half the width) of a reel tape, so i say it wouldn't play.
@zenmaster244 жыл бұрын
@@mariojohnson8317 thanks - i was wondering if i could have the best of both worlds with a reel to reel, but it looks like best to just stick to tape :)

Nice video. And good information. I currently own an X-1000R in NM or M condition, but I am not familiar with the dbx feature. I have owned a number of R2R decks over the years, but this is the first one with the dbx feature. In my X-1000R ...when I activate dbx, it's almost as if the feature takes a meat hammer approach to noise reduction. The sound becomes muffled and the quietest parts of the music are bulldozed into nothing-ness. Can the dbx sensitivity be adjusted? I'd be interested in knowing if and how a user like me could do it.

why did a machine of this quality not have direct drive, like Akai and Technics?
@vintageaudioaddict4 жыл бұрын
Just the design. The drive belts last a long time but of course I'd like to have the hassle free direct drive.
@hubbsllc4 жыл бұрын
The two capstans pretty much required mechanical synchronization between them and by far a single belt between them and a motor would have been the best way to achieve that.

You must be a "Preferred Customer" with Mouser... Electrolytic capacitors are STUPID expensive on their site now. Little 25vdc 100uF axial caps are no less than $1.50, and the good high temp ones run as much as $11.64 a piece!
