Teach Me, GP2040-CE! - How to Remap Buttons (0.7.7)

One of the many features in GP2040-CE is the ability to remap buttons the almost any way you like to suit your needs and preferences. In this episode of Teach Me, GP2040-CE! you'll learn of all the ways you can do so, including a basic remap, using Dual Directional Inputs (DDI), and profiles. Just in case you really mess things up, an emergency restart technique is included too.
NOTE: This is for version 0.7.7 of GP2040-CE.

Great tutorial. One minor correction though. For DDI you'd want to select "none" from the drop down menu in the addons section instead of "mixed" or else it will make that button do whatever the "normal" directions are assigned to do (like dpad up when the directions are set to dpad or right stick up when set to right stick). Only if none is selected it will output the chosen left analogue direction no matter what's selected. It will do left analogue when the direction buttons are also in left analogue, though. Which will again result in two buttons doing the same output.

That's where I double checked that too to make sure to not state some rubbish. Depending what you choose in the dropdown you can also make it output BOTH analogue and dpad at the same time by a press of a single direction. I think that could get you in trouble on tournaments. "None" was the only option for me where it always puts out the desired analogue direction by pressing that DDI button.

Hey Zav, great explanation. Do you by chance know how the haute42 assigns the LEDs for the extra buttons? If were talking in Playstation, when doing custom led themes I have to set the Touch pad and PS button to get the Upper Up (pin26) button and the lower L3 button (pin27) to light up. But they don't work with the pressed effect. Pressing pin 20 and 21 lights them up (touch and PS) It's kind of confusing. Is there anyway to configure in GP2040 so both ups act the same in the custom LED theme? Using a T16.

I have the same question. After remapping Pins 18 and 19 on my G16 (to L1/L2 for drive impact and drive parry in SF6) pressing these remapped buttons lights up the pressed LED state for the L1 and L2 buttons (Pins 13 and 9) instead of the Pin 18 and 19 locations. I was curious if there was some extra configuration to do in LEDs or if that's not possible currently.

Ummm so I just got this GP2040-CE (S-Series) and I honestly done know what I did, but the Lights and display don't light up anymore, but it still works. I just remapped my up button tbh

Barring some hardware revision I don't know about, sure, that map should work.

I play Sf6., and for parry we use two buttons, I have seen some KZbinrs mapped this into just one button, do you guys know how to do this?

Use the game settings to map those functions to a button (like L1, L2, or L3).

You may have held the hotkey to set it into that mode on startup; just hold 2K for XInput or 2P for PS4 (default).

Is there a way to change the pin 27/18 to another binding because when I press the pin 2 to jump and pin 18 does the same with 19? You get gist of it, and im trying to bind it for street fighter 6 and tekken 8. Appreciate the help!

It depends -- if you have buttons that are wired to a pin you can't change that aspect, you can only change what that pin does. For example, the Haute42 M16 has a full sized button that activates a pin (let's call it 23 because I forget which one it's on) but it has an option button that also is wired to that same pin. If you remap what that pin does (let's say you change it from R3 to Touchpad), both the smaller option button and the full sized button will change to Touchpad (there's no way to separate these). Does that make sense?

Very good and well done video. but I have a question, I'm trying to remap pin 27 which by default is UP so that it does the same thing as Y which works as pin 11. but when I click on save the settings doesn't save. and when I restart the controller it still remains the default. sorry for my horrible english.

I've seen this happen sometimes and the way to fix it has been to flash nuke and reinstall. :| What controller/board are you using?

Most likely you haven't upgraded to version 0.7.7 then. You'll need to do that first.

If you pick PS4 buttons in the top right corner instead of XInput as I did you'll see Touchpad as an option as well.

what do i do if im not on a .7 network AND the configurator isn't working?

By "not working" do you mean it never loads in browser? It's possible you have security software or policy blocking any local web servers from running; check there. Also if you're on Linux there's a bit more setup that's involved; this is documented on the GP2040-CE info site.

i'm using pico and currently at 0.7.9, but if i choose the PS5 input mode my Pin 0 and Pin 1 is not working, but i switch to another mode like PS4 or Xinput, it works like i supposed to, do you have maybe an info for that problem? edit : my Pin 0 and 1 doesn't work when i use USB Host option, but when i use none it's just works, i'm confused ass hell

The USB passthrough port (and some other add-ons) requires some pins to work and will cause the pin mapping screen to show these as unavailable when in use; this is normal behavior. What issue are you trying to solve? I'm a little confused.

When i choose Authentication Setting as "Host USB", my Pin0 and 1 which designated to Up and Back button completely doesn't work, but when i choose "None" as an Authentication Setting which i assume made my stick only works for 8 minutes before i need to plug it in again onto PS5, both of these buttons works like nothing happened, what i'm trying to solve is how to make my buttons work on "Host USB" Authentication Setting, like do i need an Add-on for it to work? Or it's just my board that's has some faulty stuff? Thank you for the response btw My stick still works perfectly fine but it's just that one issue that bothers me

You can go in update mode and use the nuke firmware to reset the board. Then update it with the last one.

around 7:50 you say you don't have a function button and stop the sequence of inputs/mappings. Then just afterwards you show how to remap individual pins and as an example you use pin 18 which is set as... function. I'm puzzled

By default Function isn't set on 18 (on this controller it defaults to LS) so I was changing it back to default then showing how to change it back. Kind of a little extraneous, yes.

I'm using a G16 as you do and changed my colour theme. However, I couldn't find a way to change the colour of Pin 26 and 27. They're not present in the colour settings UI. I am on version 0.7.8

There's a few buttons that are weird like that; you have to set colors on option buttons to make them work. I'm betting in the future the UI will be changed to be more pin-based instead of button based to accomodate this.

@@Zevaeros Thank you for your assistance. In my case, it was the "PS" and the "Touchpad" buttons that I needed to change the colour of. One more question. Maybe you know the answer. In the pin mapping interface, for some reason, I can't rebind Pin 26 and Pin 28. The interface is greyed out and text reads: "Assigned to add-on". Well, the text seems obvious enough, however I don't have any add-ons enabled that require any Pins or inputs of Pins. Enabled are: On-Board LED Configuration → No Pins required Turbo → Pin 15 is set per default Dual Directional Input → No Pins required Keyboard Host Configuration → Which was enabled per default and shouldn't matter?

@@Serafiniert I've seen this happen when I upgraded in the past and didn't do a flash nuke or restored settings from a previous version backup; the solution is a full flash nuke install and manually re-setup settings.

​@@Zevaeros Very strange. I did nuke the G16 and then flashed it again, and now Pin 23 and Pin 24 are blocked as well. No idea where to go from here. (Nuked and flashed a second time, loaded my stored config, but still the same issue with multiple Pins blocked)

You can map a button as down, but I don't think down+forward is doable on it's own.
