Teach Me, GP2040-CE! Upgrading to Version 0.7.8

0.7.8 is here! How do you upgrade to it though? In this episode of Teach Me, GP2040-CE! I'll cover the upgrade method and the somewhat more in-depth "flatten and reinstall method". Updating firmware can be a little scary, but by following this video, you should be able to get it done.

This is great, was able to update to 0.7.9, thank you! I tried doing it using your earlier video and didn't see RPI-RP2 so I panicked, but this solved my issues!

I'm in the market for new keycaps and switches so if you continue to make review videos of some of them, keycaps specifically next I'd definitely tune in. It's very very helpful. Hello! When I go to the website, it appears that I can update to version 0.7.8, the current version of my controller is 0.7.3, but it does not appear which version it is currently using. In this case, would I have to use the Pico or PicoFightingBoard version to make this update? (My controller isn't from Haute42, i bought from a national company here in Brazil, and is a normal hitbox layout :D)

If your controller doesn't have a "specialized" firmware variant (like Open_Core0 or the Haute42/Cosmox) then you'll likely stick with the generic Pico variant. Go into webconfig and on the home page you should see what version and variant you have.

You will still need an adapter and the proper setup.

Just use the standard Pico variant; I don't see a specific Furin/FRS one.

Hi, I just bought a haute42 S16. and when I check on Web Configurator, It comes with Pico (GP2040-CE_0.7.5_Pico.uf2) v0.7.5. Can I update the firmware directly to GP2040-CE_0.7.8_Haute42COSMOX.uf2? Or should I update to Pico version 0.7.8 instead?

Perform the full flash nuke and manual settings install method (basically part 2 of this video) and use the H42 specific firmware when going to 0.7.8.

@@aduhglupa Yeah, it's painful but it works; as I mentioned in the video whenever you go from one variant to another (e.g. stock Pico to a manufacturer specific variant) it's best practice to use the flatten and reinstall method.

I updated my M16 to version 7.8. Now, I can only play on my PS5 when I plug the Brook Wingman converter directly into my M16. If I use it on my PS5, it doesn't work. I changed the settings to PS5, but it still doesn't work, just when I use Xinput, but then my touchpad doesn't work on my M16 for the PS5. Any advice? I don't want to play with the converter on my M16 because it could easily break

So to sanity check: * Plugging the Wingman FGC into the PS5 and then your M16 into that works, but the touchpad button doesn't work when set to XInput mode * Plugging the Wingman FGC into the USB-A port on the M16 and setting it to PS5 mode doesn't work For the former, I'd try setting the M16 to use PS4 or DInput mode and see if one of those works. For the second case, go into webconfig, and verify it's set to use PS5 mode with Arcade Stick. Also make sure the PS passthrough mode is enabled. If you're worried about the FGC snapping or some such I recommend you get the Magicboots PS4; it's much more compact. Another option is getting a USB extension cable and attaching the FGC to that, I suppose.

hi, my board suddenly reset all mappings, now i dont have the start button mapped, how do i enter webconfig now?

You should have a physical boot button you can use to get into bootsel mode. Unplug, hold that button down, plug in your board/controller, then release. You should get the RPI-RP2 drive and you can follow the flatten & reinstall section (nuke, fresh flash).

@@Zevaeros tried that and didnt work...so i made a jump between GND and 12 pins, and booted with that, and it booted on webcojfig, then i loaded my backup mapping...just saying this if someone else has the same problem

What if you don't see get latest version?

Generally that happens if: 1. You're already up to date 2. You're on a platform that GP2040 doesn't know what to look for (or a beta version, etc.) For #1, there's nothing to do. For #2, you'll need to manually go to the releases page and download the correct variant for your controller.

@@Zevaeros now my issue is my Xbox won't register it. I have it hooked up through the magic-s ultimate, which is updated. My update page for the board didn't have the "update to latest version" option, but either way, shouldn't it still work?

@@NeCoruption Do you have the Magic-S connected directly to your Xbox then your controller into the port there? I don't believe the Magic-S is supported on the USB-A port on the controller itself. If so, make sure you're in XInput mode on the controller.

@@Zevaeros yea, I do. I just now got the latest update on the pad too, and still not registering with my Xbox. I held the light on the flash until it was green, and I've held the button in the controller for xinput as well.
