This was a great video. I am a mom helping train some 4H kids without meeting during the Corona virus ordeal. Thank you so much for posting!

Good stuff! Thanks for this video! I haven't had a dog in many years, and I just adopted an 18-month old shepherd. She's incredibly smart and a really great pup, but she needs some training and of course, getting used to a new hooman calling her name. This video is a great reminder for me to get her on track!

This was just what I needed this week with my foster pup! He's getting there recall down, but it's often more of a mosey than a 💨 looking forward to the extra stuff this week on the patreon!

Make sure you keep it short - 30 to 90 seconds. You want that recall to be crisp and if you drill it, it becomes a chore. Quick, exciting sessions are the key!

@@OhanaRainbow Welcome :) The great thing is with games like this, even if you've overused your dog's name, you can get them right back on track! :)

So my mom needs someone to care for her dog from now on. She probably wont leave assistant care now. She has a rediculously overweight cockapoo. 6 years old. I just picked up today. This is our first bonding game. Starting this afternoon. Absolutely no training other than relieves herself outside. Thanks for the video

I'm so sorry about your mom, but glad her dog landed with you

This is super helpful. I watched it twice! I imagine you could also use this game for their recall cue? (Come, here, etc.)

Also, I am so guilty of using dogs’ names’ in a negative manner despite knowing not to so this is suuuch a good reminder. I don’t yell the name aggressively but more of a hey-why-the-heck-are-you-doing-that kind of tone.
@DoggyU Жыл бұрын
@@rachelminneapolis We ALL are guilty of that! That's why there's games to help with that, but if you just keep reminding yourself, it lessens over time. And yes, you could definitely use this with their recall cue!

Thank you! Now I realise what I’m doing wrong (misusing his name) Does this mean tho that he will expect treats for the rest of his life whenever I call his name?❤
@DoggyU Жыл бұрын
Nope! You should always reinforce response to name (toys, praise, petting) but you can start by using a one to one ratio of food reinforcement, and then move to an intermittent reinforcement schedule once his response is positive and consistent.

I can't find a way to private message you so please forgive me😅 I'm struggling to find the video for fetching. Every time I try to back up and go back to the video list, it creates a new listing order. So I'm losing which ones I've seen, haven't and can't find the one I'm looking. Is this how you teach the basics of fetch? 😅 Im using your videos to teach my puppy. I've been loading the clicker. I wanna inevitably teach him to get my meds but I gotta teach fetch and heel first.

I don't have a publicly available retrieve tutorial, as the retrieve takes multiple steps, along with some foundation work. I *do* have a three-part series over on Patreon that goes over the methods I use to teach the retrieve. And the great news is that the first part is totally free if you become a free member of Patreon. Then you can decide if you want to upgrade to a paid membership to see the other two parts for just $18 which gives you access to over 150 other training videos and posts. You can join at Patreon.com/doggyu if you're not already a member. If you're looking for the video on medical retrieve tips, you can find that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lafGp6hqj7Z6g9U Hope that helps!

The dog I'm training will only eat treats out of my hand. What can I do to promote chase the treat?
@DoggyU11 ай бұрын
You can start by simply dropping the food from your hand into a bowl. So you can mark with a "yes" or click and then drop the food directly in a bowl at the dog's feet. Slowly you can start tossing the food into a bowl a bit further away, and then get rid of the bowl altogether. I would also consider the value of the treat. You may need to "up" your treat game. Here's a video on reinforcing that may be helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGm2gqGlZragatk Happy Training!
