For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

Maybe also share when this doesn't work to curb jumping, what other approaches entail if operant counter conditioning isn't effective or as efficient. Such as insecurity or aggression/dominance.
@johncspine27877 ай бұрын
They have to couch all this in vague terms because of the positive only cult. We aren’t allowed to simply say “pop the leash on your slip lead or prong collar for a microsecond.” So instead of a simple correction, ppl put up with cookies, treats and praise and years and years of dogs being badly behaved or put down because they were never corrected. Discipline is love.

Thank you for teaching this! I love dogs, for the most part but I don't even appreciate small dogs that jump or beg for my attention in intrusive ways and will not listen to the instructions to stop. Most of my dislike for larger dogs comes from intrusive and uncontrolled behavior.

I have a female pitbull that just loves everyone, the biggest problem is not her training, it’s other people not respecting her in training, because they say oh it’s okay she just wants up because she wants love, problem is she doesn’t understand the difference between that with other people, I’ve started telling people right away she is in training to not jump up, please to not engage or pet her unless she is calm and on all four on the floor, I also step on her lead so she doesn’t have enough lead to jump up, and only release the lead if she is calm and on all fours with no excitement, I find she listens well but it’s other humans that don’t listen and respect that she’s in training and I do not want her at any time jumping up all over anyone…❤❤❤ Those are the people I tend to always step on her leash with because they encourage her to jump up for love and cuddles, and they seem to get offended that I’m being mean to my pup, but being mean would be allowing that behaviour and her jumping on a child or elderly person… I find that dog owners need just as much training and to learn to respect the other dog and respect the owners wishes…❤❤❤

i do this with my dog but anytime a family member goes to see him they encourage him to jump up at them. i tell them im training him to not jump at people but they just always say something along the line of "ohhh its fine hes just a puppy" and they never listen to me about it 😮💨🙄

I don’t know if it would help, what we have been teaching, and seems to work- is that if someone asks for a cuddle she will go up on back legs for a cuddle, only when asked. As part of her job as an assistant dog to me, she must be able to do this when I need her to or to interupt a behaviour due to my autism and anxiety issues. It does seem to work but you need to tray this way for no jumping, but if asked for a cuddle/ hug whatever word works for you, then you are training what you want and what you don’t want. This has personally helped us but everyone is different.

Completely my case! I now try to say out loud in front of ppl I trust that they shouldn't reward him when he is jumping or standing on top of them, it has helped to make the others hear this without directly telling them.

This jumping is not something I have thought about yet (as future dog owner). Thank you for your advice. "Learned when young is done when old." I have seen Will with German shepherd and Belgian Malinois, but my future dog is going to be a Dutch shepherd. I'm not sure what can be said about those from a behaviour perspective. I have seen Will talk about shepherds and children, how much he likes to train German shepherds because they are eager to train, especially the working line of these kind of dog breeds. I have seen his coworker talk while handling a Belgian Malinois. Awesome dogs, but just not the Dutch shepherd. I hope to see Will work with a Dutch shepherd in a future video. I already admire his work with dogs (and I like to see a Dutch shepherds, they are among the few rare and awesome dog breeds). For now, let his pink dolphin jump to another of your movies. Keep up the good work.

When you say "interruption", you mean a correction, yes? Usually positive punishment? And then show them the alternative behaviour you prefer where there is more reinforcement and less aversive. Do you match the interruption with the appropriate pressure that each dog needs? For example, some dogs spacial pressure or a slip lead does absolutely nothing, so swapping to a prong may be more effective. If the jumping stems from insecurity/fear, do you still do the same process & simultaneously build confidence? Or build confidence first?

Hello. Thank you for your video. Do you have a video on introducing new dogs to eachother?
@cherylhowker17929 ай бұрын
Thanks will have to try this. Can I ask, will the same idea of interrupting and then getting the dog to sit for the attention work when a dog is pawing/scratching for attention??? Just my girl does this to others- not to me for some reason! Thanks in advance for your time to reply to me

Everytime a dog jumps on me I fold both arms imfront of me become a statue and stare straight ahead. Everytime the dog immediately sits. Dog owners are always fascinated when their dog responds to that technique. once the dog sits then i will reward with a calm pet. Starts jumping repeat
