In this puppy training session, Uncle Stonnie is demonstrating how we teach Labrador Retriever puppies to fetch and explaining why we like to use the Inductive retrieve method to build strong foundations.
The inductive retrieve is an awesome way for novice trainers to learn to express their expectations and motivate puppies to meet those expectations!
00:00 - Introduction with Jack Russell Terrier
06:27 - Annie Field Bred Labrador Retriever
12:08 - Chocolate Lab Puppy (19 weeks)
22:54 - Fox Red Lab Puppy (21 weeks)
32:08 - Chocolate Lab Puppy (19 weeks)
The inductive retrieve is an awesome way for novice trainers to learn to express their expectations and motivate puppies to meet those expectations!
We hope you guys enjoy!

My german short hair puppy first night learned sit and down. We really underestimate the learning capacity. And they love learning new things! I almost got a lab. Hunting dogs in general are smart. ❤

This was such a useful video, especially the segment with Winston! I really appreciated seeing you work through challenges real time while keeping a positive attitude and giving the dog a little grace. I struggle with getting frustrated when things don't go exactly to plan. This was really helpful. Thanks for taking the time!

What GOOD dogs, all of 'em. The lesson here is to have expectations which can vary, depending on the abilities of the dog. They all did great at improvement. Ice cream time for all that wonderful help too (cameraman and lovely assistant in the field). Ok, some for those good dogs too. I'm a softy in that regard.

Thanks for sharing your training methods. My last field lab was an amazing retriever and super easy to train. I used the “will work for food” method of training and once he had the basics of each drill then switched over to working for praise. I never knew I was using the inductive technique so your videos are great help for even more refined training. New yellow lab is on the way and can’t wait to begin training again!!!

Great video series on the retrieve Stonnie! I’m working with my eight year old yellow Lab Aspen, and she is becoming more reliable. Her problem is NOT holding onto the retrieval item if she knows treats are coming.

Are you using the clicker? She needs to associate the click with the completion of the task and that when completed properly she will be paid with the desired treat. If she thinks she can get a treat by only partially completing the task, why keep holding on the item? Hope this helps.

Oh, we just love Annie!❤🥰 We are working on this, as we watch, and our girl does okay but wants to drop it instead of hold and deliver. So we know we have to go back and work on the hold. *edit: And Riot ❤🥰🤩

Great video so quick question what is the difference between the inductive retrieve and just hold conditioning we always do force fetch at my kennel but may try to implement this at a younger age before they are ready for force fetch

In the beginning would you ever consider putting the scent of a treat on the hard dumbbell to entice a dog to pick it up? I've watched your videos for a while and use your style of training with my dogs, Thank you

If you have already ruined a dog for retrieving, can you re-teach them? My Golden Retriever loves to chase after a toy but won’t bring it back.

My 3.5 year old chocolate lab most always retrieves but doesn’t drop. What does the clicker do to complement the treat?
@blackraen
@blackraen 24 күн бұрын
Giving the reward treat with a click of the clicker creates the association of the sound of the clicker with the reward/confirmation of desired activity. As you progress with clicker training, you can stop giving treats and just use the clicker to signal to the dog that they've done a good job/done what you wanted them to do. Clicker or other non-treat based reward/conformation becomes valuable as you advance in dog training because it allows you give confirmation signalling beyond hand/treat reach and range.

Would it be possible to give a numerical age to the dogs. I appreciate there are different learning curves even in dogs but for some of us it might help set some parameters of self training expectations.

This dude talks waaay too damn much. More training, more action, less words. This vid shud be 70% shorter. Geeez! Why I like watching Garrett Wing of American Standard Dog Training account. Gets to the point.

I don’t talk too much, you simply have an under developed attention span. The training sessions take the amount of time they take and I’m literally explaining the concepts, in simple terms, while I’m implementing the techniques. You will find zero gimmicks or jump cuts in my videos. There’s a reason the fellow you mentioned doesn’t make long form content.
