Love watching your tecnique- especially for lowering the excited energy. Totally motivated to get out into my front garden with my 5 month olde aussie and working on engagement in this way. Thanks! Looking forward to more.

Thanks. Good video. I love how calm and clear you are with your dog. My challenge is always to use one command once instead of repeatedly saying the word rendering it useless.

Totally agree that poor focus on the lead is due to lack of attention paid towards the handler. Nice video. Any tips for if a dog will only work for food? i.e. "I'm not doing that unless I can see you have a treat for me"

Hi, thanks for the awesome comment. I would try a mix in your training, maybe load up on treats at the start and then swap it to attention or no treat and see the dogs reaction. But some dogs are really food focused and work best for tasty treats. What type of dog do you have?

@@thecairdcompany2811 English Springer Spaniel. He loves attention during downtime but isn't motivated by it during training, unfortunately. He is always on the lookout for a treat and I just can't get him working without either a treat or a ball (a ball isn't realistic to use if I simply want a 'down'). I'm stuck :(

I just found your channel and am impressed by the simplicity of the "game" to build engagement with your dog. I have a rescue Staffy that is food motivated to this will be perfect for him. I will be keeping an eye on your channel to see more of your techniques for dog training.

@@thecairdcompany2811 Merle is doing great! He's around 7 years old but has the energy of a 6 month old so a game of Frisbee is in order to take the edge off him before playing these games. He had virtually no recall when I got him but now he at least responds to his name when called. He doesn't always come when called but he's getting better. Thanks so much for you taking the time to share your training techniques with we youtubers!

Thank you for such a great video. I really enjoyed it. I have a dog that gets bored quickly and most trainers say I should get exciting to him. But that puts him over the top and he can't concentrate. This is a wonderful method for us. I will try it before our obedience class today.❤❤

This is just what we need for our distracted and independant (!) Mini Schnauzer. May I recommend dried sprats, broken up, they're the best treats because they're natural, and really stinky, which dogs love! Plus they don't contain all the sugar and wheat that dried food or treats are made of. Can't use my dog's food for this, though. He's on raw, and thrives on it! 🙂

Great video, thanks! Have been doing something similar with my lab, but am going to add throwing the treats on the ground to improve distance! Have you considered using considered adding ‘wait’ command to build focus as you’re doing, and use the ‘leave it’ command for something she is not to ever touch. This adds a layer to her trying but might be something to consider. Leave it can be then applied to anything, from spilled pesticide when walking her at your Home Improvement store, to other dogs on a walk, to an item on the sidewalk. When you say ‘leave it’ she should immediately look up at you and keep going with you away from whatever it is. This a can take a little time to teach but it is so worth it and could even save her life. Again, nice video, added nuance. Thanks!

Just FYI your thumbnail had a mistake in it: the apostrophe in "dog's" was not necessary. It should have been just "dogs". An apostrophe means either something is possessed by dogs or is a contraction. For example, you could have had "Best dog's games" in your thumbnail. The games would have belonged to dogs, but you put "Best Games for Dogs" and "Dogs" is simply plural.
