Flirt poles can be used for a lot of things in dog training: play, drive building, exercise and more. In this lesson I use the flirt pole to build Siggy's confidence and bite in a game of tug of war.
This is the 5th session in our puppy series with Siggy the Belgian Malinois. Today I want to get his bite a little stronger on the tug. He has nice drive, but lacks the confidence to play tug with me. Using the flirt pole will allow me to be a little further away from him and come in more slowly. I'm also using a fluffy squeaky toy to get Siggy's drive a little higher.
Be sure to check out the full version of this lesson as well as all the others at:

You commented that you normally would not use a toy with a squeaker in it for a Mal. Why is that?
@RobertCabralDogs
@RobertCabralDogs 2 жыл бұрын
@@kimbra2028 I only suggest the squeaker for dogs with lower drives. higher drives would not be suitable for a squeaky toy!

Great video..my dogs(American bulldog and Dogo Argentino) love the flirt pole.They look forward every day to playing with the flirt pole.We usually do 10 minutes or so and it gives them a really good work out and seems to help them bond with each other as well as with me.

Just get a hose whip from tractor supply and some 550 cord and tie it to your pups favorite toy. You can check out Ray Allen K9 or similar places for harnesses.

Question-Siggy "talking". I have a pup of 4 months, just came to me...I've dealt with mostly working dogs(herding). This dog is very "verbal"...and I've searched the internet about malinios' "talking"...to no avail...but I heard siggy making the same very soft whimpering sound this dog makes. Puppy behavior with in a breed is important to know...if one of my needing dogs made the same sound, I would be looking for either physical or emotional issues...but she seems fine, in fact, she does it when she's happy and proud of herself...when offering a toy or doing well on a leash...your videos have been amazing! She kept walking between my legs and circling my feet...never got mad at her, but thought was odd...after watching lesson #1, I. now know this is desirable and she's volunteering... she's toy obsessed but not to the exclusion of listening...I thought bordercollie were tender, 😲 but she makes them look tough and insensitive. She was given to a lady who is disabled and lives in a trailer park, so don't even know her breeding...she looks like a malinios x Czech shep cross...lady was told pure malinios...but she seems to be like siggy in intelligence. Got her at 14 weeks, wasn't leash trained...walked her on a leash once...bam, she understood and increases in sensitivity daily. She'll be 16 weeks on the 19th of January. After we learn all you present in these videos, what's next? Thank you.

About me...was raised ranching, training horses and dogs. Parents raised dobbermans in the '70s. Bordercollies always around. Mom, in her 80's, raises and works Borzois. Your techniques are amazing! My current dogs are a mix- one side is bordercollie x mcnab, the other side is Queensland x chow...that 4 way was eventually crossed on an Australian Shepherd...these dogs have it all...agility, sent, auditory aquity, prey drive...the protect/hunt/defend/detect(seizure, MS episodes, hearing assist, paddle board, crag dog, barn hunt, etc.) Again, thank you, sir, for providing a way of training I've never been exposed to. I look forward to applying it to this rescue and to my own pack and their progeny.
