Dave, talking about kids and money. I have a great story. My older daughter ( she’s now mid 40’s), when she was 14 years old came to me asking for $120 for a pair of jeans. I’m a nurse and was making only about $19 an hour. $120 jeans were just too much money. So I told her that when she got a job and earned the money then she could buy herself $120 dollar jeans! I thought that was the end of it. Well, within 24 hours little miss independent 14 year old came home proudly announcing, ‘Guess what mom! I have a job’. I was shocked, justifiably proud, but surprised. She diligently went to work every day after school (she was the sweep up girl in a beauty shop). About 2 weeks later she proudly came home with her first paycheck. So I asked her, are you going to buy those $120 jeans with your money? ‘Heck, no!’ She says, ‘Mom, I worked too hard for this money to throw it all away on only one pair of jeans!’ (Good girl, spend your hard earned money wisely)

I’m like Jade, having heard No always growing up and how poor we were (they were house poor in a rich neighborhood with a broke down car and no money for us for clothes 😅 it was emotionally debilitating for me as I grew up - created a very unsafe feeling and embarrassment bc they were trying to keep up with the Jones’s except we were clearly failing at that… it’s a long story for me coming out of that, there’s a passage in the Bible that talks about hope deferred and I think it’s important to get your priorities straight as the adults because continually denying kids of actual needs or saying yes and then always cancelling is very damaging. I have become the opposite of what they did and I never allow my daughter to feel like her needs aren’t met, yet she is far from spoiled. I am teaching her along with me as I put the values you teach into more and more practice. Thank you for teaching ppl of all ages how to manage money because it really heals so many other parts to life 🙏🏼❤️🕊️

These days I’m avoiding anything that has to do with rentals, roommates, guest homes, etc. The squatter epidemic is frightening. Until law fixes things and sides more with the owners, I’m not going anywhere near that.

It is crazy. With more income also comes the opportunity for significantly higher levels of debt. You rack up $50K in credit cards and lines of credit, then you take a HELOC or 401K loan to pay it off. You now max out your credit cards again because you didn’t learn your lesson the first time. Now you have all that consumer debt on top of the loan. Since you have a high income and can handle the astronomical minimums, the banks and credit card companies will let you keep drowning yourself.

Being a side gate it was not intended for passage by animals especially camels carrying side loads. So it was nigh impossible for the act to happen. The message is about using the proper gate... I am 65 and disabled most of my life. Disability is 1030/month. I live in Eastern TN. I bought a mobile home for $8k cash from a settlement and worked on improvements to my home to make it a comfortable and attractive "apartment in a box" for myself. I recently got a modest inheritance but is a lot to me. I have tithed the 10% to friends, family, neighbors and myself. (Love others as you love yourselves) I paid off all debt..which wasn't much but neither is my income. I own the home. I am doing some additional renovating....long overdue. I am scared of how much I have spent. And scared to make a move with the rest of the money. I guess I will put it in my bank investment account that is 5% for the next 6 mos-1 yrs. Brand new to The Ramsey Show.

The last few minutes of this show are some of the best things ive ever heard Ramsey talk about. The Haiti situation pulls at my heart. I know what its like there. I went there to visit a friend in 2019, for a week. I saw the poverty and crime...its way beyond anything you can imagine. I saw how bad it was then. Im glad this woman asked the questions about christians being wealthy versus poor. Some of the best stuff ive ever heard on the subject of whether or not its ok for a christian to be rich or not. It cleared up a lot for me. The verse dave quotes is deuteronomy 8 verse 18 if anyone is interested in looking it up. Please talk about more stuff like this. I really enjoyed the Bible lesson from Dave.

When my oldest son was five, he earned $1/day for bringing in the newspapers for our neighbor when they were on vacation. We went to the store to spend his earnings. I told him if he bought something really inexpensive, it was a junky toy and it would break soon. There was some new cheap, fad toy that he wanted and bought. It broke the next day. He said, "Well, Mom, I guess that was a junky toy." He made much more thoughtful purchases after that. Another time he'd saved up about $25 (this was 25 years ago, so $25 meant more back then). He had to choose which items he'd buy and which he couldn't, because he didn't have enough money for all of them. We discussed the merits of the different toys and games, but I let him decide what he would buy.

I am 28, with 3 kids, and own my own home etc. And my family still doesn't talk about money! I am very comfortable with talking about what I make, what I'm saving, costs etc. But my family is very secretive about it and I really don't get it. I had to learn about money when I got older and being responsible with it the hard way because it was so taboo. I talk about money all the time in my home. I love to talk about money, and I even helped a few friends lower their debts and save an emergency fund when they thought it was impossible. I wish I could talk money with my family

For the woman asking about fishing lodges etc, look into Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. Not sure what their business models are, but the fishing is known worldwide and we have famous ppl visiting our province every year to fish! 🎣

Divorce laws are different by state but my ex husband's credit card debt was considered marital debt and I had to pay 50% of it😢. I'd check into that before assuming you are not liable for your wife's debt.

@ the 55 min mark they were talking about setting money aside for kids then at 18 giving it to them is a great conversation. My in-laws made the mistake of this. Their youngest had an inheritance they never told him about well over $150k in 1990. They told him they could not afford college and he HAD to get a trade. So he became an auto mechanic through a program in high school. He graduates high school they hand him this inheritance. He felt he was lied to and it completely demotivated him. He is now 50, lives really modest (zero debt) and lives off his inheritance as it was invested well. My in laws hate that he never worked or has motivation to do anything. But he never borrows money. He wanted to go to college and got a mixed message. Their relationship is strained. Never got married or had a family. My father in law thought people with degrees were pretentious so he never encouraged it.

I applaud Dave's rant towards and for the last caller but I disagree with what he said that poor people don't feed the hungry. They might not be able to fly a helicopter in to save children from becoming sex trafficked but some poor people will give their last penny to help the next person. It's not about how many dollars you can spend to help the next person It's about will you give your all to help the next person. A poor person is not afraid to be poor but would a wealthy person give all they have to help others or will they give 80% of what they have to help others and then feel they have given until it hurts? As I said and always say whatever is in your heart to help is better than nothing and for that God is smiling at you because he truly knows where your heart is. I never ever give a street corner panhandler cash I always everyday multiple times a day give them sleeves of oreos or individually wrapped rice Krispy treats. Anything from the heart is better than nothing.

debts accumulated during the marriage in community property states are community debt and he would be stuck with them if she chooses not to pay them. They can be assigned to her in court but that doesn't release him if she doesn't pay.

That first caller broke my heart. I can hear he loves his wife but her baggage is nearly causing him to break. This is her debt she should have been the one calling reaching out for help. 🤬 She needs to be working a second job. He said the kids were grown. You made the bed lady now either lay it or fix it. It sounds like her previous marriage was very similar to be responsible for over 15k in debt after 8 years she knew about that way before they got married. I can totally understand why he sounds devastated.

My best friend in high school had an inheritance from her grandfather. She never knew about it. Her mother managed to get her hands on it and spent it all. My friend's mother told her there was not even money for a cap and gown at graduation -- so she didn't show up at graduation. I didn't find out in time to be able to help. I don't know what my friend would have done had she been given the money but it wouldn't have been any worse than what her mother did with it.

I have gotten rid of most of my debt outside of mortgage. This is the first time in a long time I have been in position. I have a tsp and ira. I'm scared to invest and don't where to invest to get the best rates. I have over 3 months in savings. I would like to put something away for my daughter for college.

That call was hard to watch. Dave constantly cuts off or talks over his co-hosts and it’s frustrating for us to hear sometimes so I imagine it’s very frustrating to experience. You can read that in their body language most often when it happens.

Damare, thank you for your service and so sorry to hear about the autoimmune stuff! That’s tough. Highly recommend finding a holistic practitioner and believe there’s some really good ones around that Kansas/MO area. But yah, you can beat this and feel healthy. Conventional Docs left me hopeless with chronic Epstein Barr virus (never goes away but can keep it under control) and mold toxicity etc when I was around 12/13….with prayer, the Lord lead me to health food stores and reading all the material could get hands on to learn/educate. I’ve been into natural health over 17 yrs now and have been good overall, came a long ways, even had all natural home births (when docs said my body prob wouldn’t be able to handle having children-don’t listen to them ha!) so yah, you got this bud! You’re super smart too! Thanks again for your service. Sorry about losing your job over the health issues 😞 you got this! 💪

Dave the woman who wants to run a horse ranch! I know a couple who raise and train winning draft horses that the prize winners bring in a very significant amount of money. Even with a huge income from the shows and also the sales of horses it’s his deasal truck repair shop that covers the LOSS of the prize draft horses and very well maintained ranch. To the mom saving for daughter, look into a trust. You can direct the money into the trust each month and be the manager of that until an age set (example 25yo). Also, consider putting some of that money into mutual funds and investment so it can grow over the next 5-10 years. Last the custodial account, I hope that’s a high yield savings account so she can get 4-5% interest annually on it.

SOC SEC SURVIVORS bene is sent as for the benefit of: childs name. Its like child support it is to go to the support of the child. You can spend it towards her needs of clothes, electronics, housing, etc. And then you save that amount of money in your name so you have control of it. Then when shes responsible enuf she can have a lump sum, under your discretion. Been there, done that. And, they still screw it up...

Closed my cards. No I can’t buy unless it’s outta my bank. Deleted my cards off everything so I have to manually type it in every time I want to buy. And I deleted the apps. Now I have to go to my computer and intentionally shop. My phone no longer has the set up to stress or boredom shop. I did have to get a new hobby to waste time. - mine is utube. ❤ hope it helped.
