My high school Latin teacher (I'm in Scotland). She gave me support and somewhere to go when I was bullied and isolated by my school year (there were less than 50 of us all girls). As well as encouraging me to do my best in her subject by creating her own textbooks to letting me watch 'Life of Brian' countless times. A few years back my year had a reunion, I didn't go. However, the day before, randomly on the street I met my Latin teacher - Dr Inga Mantle for the first time in nearly 20 years and we went for a pot of tea with a long catch up. I have a PhD that's partly in the Romans (I'm an ex-archaeologist), and needed to translate Latin for some of it. I have taught many students over the years, and she influences the warmth and encouragement I give every one of them.

As a former student of some pretty spectacular teachers and counselors, I would like to say thank you for the selfless and thankless work that you did. I wish teachers made as much as investment bankers. I had some pretty wonderful teachers in my life and they turned a D average student into someone who made the honor roll regularly. Having multiple teachers really brought me out of my academic failures. So again, I say thank you to any teacher who instills conviction and responsibility in their students and challenges them to be the best versions of themselves.

I visited my 4th grade teacher after many years. She was the most caring and special teacher I had ever had. She showed me love when I was going through some really hard times. Losing our home and my friends. I was very quiet and started getting bullied. She was the friend I needed, but also my inspiration for the type of person I wanted to become. She gave me the same old excited bear hugs she gave me every morning that year. We had a very good long chat. I wish I could find her and have at least one last one.
