Any parent out there who is dissatisfied with their child’s grades is more than welcome to motivate their child to work harder and take the learning seriously! Don’t want to motivate your own child? Then don’t have kids!

I have one student who asks for some of what I have for my snack almost everyday! And yes, this child does have her own snacks. And yes, I teach in an affluent neighborhood. (5th grade)

I was in a similar situation. I just emailed the parents to mention when I was eating food X their child said they'd like to try some. That put an end to it. The parent bought some for their kid.

I'm a high-school ceramics teacher. I have a student who comes in 45 minutes late every day. She asked me to stop marking her absent. I said, "Stop coming in for just the last 5 minutes of class." 🙄🤦
@munimathbypeterfelton62513 ай бұрын
I’m surprised high schools don’t have security guards anymore. Their job is to make sure that students are in class at all times unless they have a bathroom pass. And if a student walks into school late without a note, it used to be the security guard’s job to confront them about it. Just another of many boundaries that have been removed from modern day childhood upbringing!

That music request; my 7th-grade science teacher would put on music whenever we had exams (not tests, EXAMS), so I get that one. Honestly, I thought he was the only one who did that until now, but I guess other teachers had the same idea.
@reginabillotti3 ай бұрын
Listening to music on a speaker means someone else isn't going to like the music. Listening on headphones opens the door to a possible means of cheating. So while a student may like to listen to music, they should also be able to function without it.

I've got one, but I'm not sure if it qualifies. It's not a crazy student request or a crazy parent request. It's just... odd. I was a teacher for 16 years and a school administrator for 4. During writing time, all of us, myself included, wrote a story. My story took place in a woods with fairies, dryads, nymphs, brownies, and even Bacchus himself. After reading my story, one parent asked me, "Is this in a fantasy woods?" I wouldn't mind it except this was an adult who was college educated! All I wanted to say was, "No, fairies, brownies, elves, dryads, nymphs and everything else in the story exists in real life."

I have to tell you about a student I had. I gave a test, asked at the end of the period if I had all the tests, all said yes. This student took her test home, when I asked her about it the next day she said she had it in her folder. I asked her how can I grade her test if she doesn't turn it in. She proceeded to tear the test up into tiny pieces and threw it in the recycle bin. The next day her mother came up and yelled at me because I didn't grade her daughter's test. She then went to the administration complaining about this! Administration then demanded that I give the student a retest and give her two additional days to study for the test. After I made up another test the mother decided that her daughter didn't have to take the retest because I was bullying her daughter by asking her to retake the test. Admin backed her up and tried to make me give her an A on the test!

I once had a student who was constantly losing his homework between when I gave it to him and when he took it home. I even told him: “keep these assignments in your folder and don’t take them or your folder out of your backpack until you get home. Then after you complete the required work, put it all back in your folder, keep the folder in your backpack, and don’t take it out until it’s time to turn it in.” Needless to say, he didn’t listen to a thing I said and either brought back the same homework entirely incomplete, left the homework at home, or said he “lost the work” altogether. I even emailed his parents reiterating the exact same message word for word in writing. Their response: “Why can’t you just give him another copy of each assignment whenever he loses it?” My response: “It’s not my responsibility to cover for your son. If he continues to lose his work despite all these clear instructions otherwise, his grades will suffer. Period. And, teachers are not required to give students extra copies of the work whenever they lose them. That costs the school extra money in copy machine paper and ink cartridges.” 😡

1:53 To be fair to the child, that's what they tell us to do when we go out for a long time for vacation. We are taught to ask for all the work early. That's hardly a crazy request when we are taught by teachers to ask that question.
@munimathbypeterfelton62513 ай бұрын
Teachers aren’t supposed to give students take-home tests in advance. That’s cheating.
@cryocum15833 ай бұрын
Um….usually that’s in the student handbook which is not written by teachers. And with the turn to teaching to the child and where the child is at, teachers are lesson planning the night before class. This is one of the many reasons I quit teaching after 20 years.
@munimathbypeterfelton62513 ай бұрын
I think this teacher’s reaction was more towards the fact that many families will just take their kids out of school at random times of the year to go on vacation as opposed to waiting until winter or spring break. Kids can’t afford to miss too much school.
