Most bizarre note in 36 years of teaching: “Dear Mrs. M. Jonathan stuck a paper clip up his nose and there wasn’t time to get it out before the bus came. Could you please use the tweezers in his coat pocket to remove it before class? You’ll find it in the nostril to your left, his right. Thank you very much for everything you do. Love, Mrs. Z.” I looked and Jonathan did indeed have a paper clip in his left nostril. He also had tweezers in his pocket. I ended up calling Jonathan’s father since his mother had gone to her work. His father’s only comment was, “Now you know why we’re divorced.” He took Jonathan in the hallway and returned him to class with the paper clip in his hand.

I had 6th grade lunch duty & had a student ask if I could do it for her. I told I couldn't leave the cafeteria to find a microwave, but if she wanted to ask the cafeteria ladies whether they had one back in the kitchen and could do it, that was fine. She looked at me like I was an alien or something, and kept explaining what she wanted to microwave (a pop tart or something); I guess she thought if she explained it enough times, I'd be convinced...?

@@plerpplerp5599 He better NOT compliment the young lady on her appearance every day. This definitely would put him at legal risk. He could say "I notice you have spent time with your hairstyle. Do you like it this way?" "I see you have shoes that light up when you walk and close with velcro. Are those your favorites?" But a male teacher complimenting a young lady every day on her appearance is very easily misconstrued, and usually by the same parents that request this sort of thing.

And as a public school teacher, I thank you. It does not hurt my feelings when one of my students gets pulled for homeschool (it's only happened twice), especially because most of the time (not you, but my experiences) - that parent is homeschooling that child because they don't want to follow whatever rule the teacher/school put forth and will return them to public school the following semester (it happened once, the 2nd one is this coming school year - I think I'll have her back before January). In short, in my experiences, the parent didn't homeschool for their child, but as a way to "punish" the school for not catering to them & once they deem the punishment period to be over, they send their children right back.

@@marcilk7534 Very loosely and not really, it was really more of a thing of the student liking sleep and not often wanting to get out of bed in the mornings... besides, we are to give REASONABLE accommodations. This is after IDEA, You're under ADA now. And is this something an employer would do? Help you get ready in the mornings? You are going to college, You need to start preparing to be an adult. When you are legally an adult, you need to get yourself an alarm clock and find other strategies... This is not the territory of the small office of about 10 people for academic accommodations for a whole big university. I was polite and professional and didn't say "Are you kidding me?!?" or half this other stuff... But I did find it kind of funny. I respect that students of disabilities have some additional needs that should be accommodated, But this one was kind of ridiculous and it kind of makes for a fun story today.

Here are some of my favorite requests I have gotten from parents: - My son loves Morgan Freeman, could you try speaking like him? (I'm a female) - My daughter can't have gluten, so the whole class needs to be gluten free so she doesn't feel left out. - Could my son get extra credit work? (I'd be willing to, but he doesn't even do the regular work, so... No) - It's my mothers birthday next week, so if you could postpone the test, because it puts my son in a bad mood and we want to take nice family pictures, that would be great. And my hands down all time favorite You need to cleanse the aura of the classroom every morning with (insert some kind of esoteric ritual here) to make sure that the bad energy isn't hindering my daughter from learning. (She legit sent me a link to an instructional video of a ritual that was over 40 minutes long, a list of items I would need to purchase myself and requested proof every morning or she wouldn't sent her daughter to school.)

From elementary until he graduated high school our kid learned there were consequences for messing around in school. When he was little if he got a green he could play and watch TV after homework was done. Yellow he had to do lesson pages from a workbook we bought him or pages we'd print from the internet and then he could play after homework. Red extra pages.from the workbook and no playing or TV. Every day he'd say I got this color for this reason so I have to do this many pages. On Green days he was bouncing out of school lol In junior high he made the mistake of telling us the reason he.was getting a B grade was because he didn't like the subject and wasn't turning in all his assignments. We could.check his grades online. Our home policy was work hard and if the class is hard it's ok if you don't get an A. I told him I had parts.of my job that weren't the most fun or interesting and I still had to do them. Anyway, when his grades were low because they showed missing assignments he lost his video games and computer. If teachers were slow in uploading grades he'd ask them to email me because he couldn't do anything at home until the assignments showed as being turned in. Some teachers were nice enough to email and say he was meeting his deadlines. I may sound like a terrible parent to some people but my responsibility as a parent is to make sure my child grew up into an independent,.respectful, well rounded person who could function in the real world. He graduated early during a pandemic and is thriving in college. So far, so good. Children are not an accessory for your Instagram posts, you have to raise them and nurture them. Teachers are not babysitters and your child may be special.to you, but they are on a level playing field with everyone else. Those kids in the notes are how you end up with ratty adults society has to deal with.

Love the werewolf comment. The trampoline comment probably came from a mom of a special needs mom because (according to a therapist I talked to) the affect of jumping on a trampoline is supposed to help regulate the brain. That being said, I would not expect the school to buy my child a mini trampoline and I would just have it be that he goes to use it at a regularly scheduled time instead of when he is misbehaving. That way it is not a reward for misbehaving.
@KattReen
@KattReen 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's kind of entitled that a regular school should spend their limited budget spend it on something that MIGHT help ONE special needs kid. And it's still weird to write a note to the TEACHER about that sort of thing, not only without explaining why it might be a good idea, but expecting them to take time out of their day to pitch your stupid trampoline idea to the people in charge of managing purchases. It would be smarter to make the suggestion to people further up the chain directly, and make sure to supply some reputable sources that back your claims and request, instead of burdening your kid's teacher with it.

Thank you…. As a teacher, I’m so tired (after 25 years) of parents, administration, and even the students thinking they OWN me… “I’ll just have to go talk to the principal if you won’t ___________________________ (fill in the blank with whatever crazy request you can think of🤣)”. Sad part is that within hours, I get an email from the principal, requesting my presence in their office, to discuss a “student complaint”…😳

I had to potty train one of my students because his mom refused, and he couldn't move up to kindergarten without goingto the bathroom on his own. Her excuse was "but he's my last baby, and I don't want him to grow up so fast!" I found out later she did this with all her kids in previous years with different excuses for each. She was a stay at home mom, so it's not like she didn't have time, but I noticed it was always the stay at home moms who never had time to actually be moms
