In US news and current events today, teacher Amanda Coffman resigned on the spot during a school board meeting and delivered a powerful message to her former students.
Coffman is a former teacher at Indian Woods Middle School in Kansas. She says she resigned because she felt ‘silenced’ when Shawnee Mission School District issued teachers new 3-year contracts.
Coffman says the contracts don’t address the concerns or needs that the teachers have fought for in the past.
Listen to Amannda Coffman's fiery resignation speech to the Kansas school board here. Here is how she plans to continue the fight for better education in America.

PS: Biden is a senile old fool, Harris is totally incompetent and slept her way to the top, Pelosi is a drunk. God help us all. Thankfully we regain control of one branch (that'll make 2 out of 3 for those counting) in just a few days. Voters will hammer democrats on the most important issues: the economy and inflation. Nobody cares about your racism Nobody cares about your feminism Nobody cares about your socialism Nobody cares about your communism Nobody cares about shoveling your "student debt" onto taxpayers Nobody wants to flood the country with hostile illegal aliens Nobody cares about your uninformed mob-rule idiocracy..sorry, democracy Nobody cares about you We do care about our personal lives and finances.

The American (and most other countries) public education system wasn't designed to educate people, it's designed (in the west) in the 1800s as an ISA: Ideological State Apparatus That a fancy term Louis Althusser coined to mean that schools don't teach you useful information, they instill and perpetuate capitalist ideology like: 1) blindly respecting authority 2) sitting still 3) following the rules 4) getting to work on time As well as keeping working class (poor) people and minorities under educated so they are less likely to revolt against the rich.

I know how that teacher feels when she said that. I'm a crossing guard and I've worked in heavy rain, painfully cold weather, thunderstorms, 113 degree summer heat and at one point, I had to position myself between a drug addict and a few kids to keep them safe. Now my department is being broken down and sent too a private company (we were city employees before). Now I probably won't get too serve my community due to the majority of us crossing guards not wanting to support the private company (there's a possibility of us crossing guards walking out and quitting the job)

America is a nation wired Catholic, labeled Protestant, and functioning secular. People don’t believe this when they first hear it, but it’s demonstrably true. And the cryptic interaction between Catholicism and both the young nation’s native Protestantism and post-Enlightenment secularism has wrought a land of deep and possibly fatal contradiction. The impasse between the American republic’s wiring, labeling, and functioning has also turned it into a republic in name only that, without change, will soon perish. Our national infirmity is betrayed by six symptoms indicating that America misses muster as a true republic. The stubbornly incredulous American anti-Catholicism on the religious right (today’s grandkids of the Reformation) and on the secular left (today’s grandkids of the Enlightenment) must evaporate before the existential threat can be nullified. There is only one solution to American decadence in 2016-and, like it or lump it, that solution is Catholic. Here is the paradox: through shameless plagiarism of the Catholic natural law tradition, the Reformation-Enlightenment-inspired founders of this nation created a new regime centered upon the very thing that the Reformation and the Enlightenment had rejected throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries: the Catholic natural law. Let that irony sink in. As Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote of the Protestant preacher Arthur Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter: “The pale clergyman piled up his library, rich with parchment-bound folios of the Fathers . . . and monkish erudition, of which the Protestant divines, even while they vilified and decried that class of writers, were yet constrained often to avail themselves.” History is stranger even than Hawthorne’s fiction. This secret plagiarism features in American history as a sort of intellectual schizophrenia by the religious right and the secular left. Each camp’s sixteenth-century “grandparent”-respectively, the Reformation and the Enlightenment-has for five centuries sermonized against the Catholic natural law. Stranger still is the irony that the two “rivals” have far more in common-a potent allergy to natural law-than either side wishes to recall. They are false rivals, fake opposites. Think of both “Protestant natural law” and “Enlightenment natural law” as contradictions in terms. One could argue that Catholic natural law (Thomas Aquinas’s brand of Aristotelianism) is the only genuine brand of it. But a luminary or two from either camp occasionally referred to something they called “natural law,” however misguided their criteria might have been. It proves to be a sufficiently argumentative task just showing Americans that the ideas they’ve long embraced about politics and culture are uniquely Catholic. So let’s just stick with that.REST ABOUT BOOK BY TIMOTHY GORDON" CATHOLIC REPUBLIC:WHY AMERICA WILL PERISH WITHOUT ROME" ON CATHOLIC ANSWERS PAGE

If only all teachers truly cared. I had two very good teachers who never gave up on me. I never got the education I wanted because my home life was so disruptive, but I had two of the greatest teacher's refusing to give up on me in first and second grade. I was never spoken to because I was an introvert, but that doesn't mean I wasn't observing. I always felt dumb. I would forget to do my homework and be so upset with myself. There was no routine in our home. My parent's would take us to my aunts house right after school and keep us out until 3:00am and expect us to go to school; we had no time to do homework once we did get home. I seriously feel 4th grade was the last grade I had completed; I'm lucky I can read for as much as we moved around. I did eventually study at home to get my G.E.D.; though I wish I had an actual diploma. I owe anything I do know as far as reading, to my 1st and 2nd grade teachers who both took the extra time, attention, and concern for my education.

Being completely honest, in my life I've had maybe a three or four teachers that have ever taught me anything of value. The majority of the rest of my education was either because my parents put in the effort, I did or I got a private tutor. Teachers are one of those groups that like to cry crocodile tears while in the spotlight but the moment the light is off they exercise their insecurities over their students and take every opportunity to let their personal politics leak into their curriculum. There are plenty of teachers that are legitimate in their intentions and sincerely deserve better work conditions but even there a great many just dig their own grave either through the politics they push or the associations they chose to be a part of. It's why context maters, we don't know what the problem is here - for all we know she could be acting like a spoiled brat.

Running for school board is an easy way for someone to politicize their way into the state legislature, with an fantastical eye on a seat in the US Congress. In my county a teacher could not be on a school board because the board votes on teacher salaries. You know how often they vote on teacher salaries? Once a year. Convenient rule, isn’t it? The Common Core initiative was a bi-partisan effort to set reasonable standards across the nation. ALL Common Core dictated was the standards. HOW they were achieved was up to the state or district or individual teacher. Unfortunately, textbook and testing companies saw an opportunity to make a killing selling "new" curricula and tests. These rushed, poorly vetted materials were what people actually saw--and attributed to Common Core standards. Also, masses of uninspired teachers recognized that Common Core would create a means of holding them accountable for lack of student success. Because of their elders' greed, apathy, and ignorance, many of our kids are being done a terrible disservice.

It was designed to keep toxic substances out of drinking water, but it was massively overused. For example, it appeared in every room I entered when I worked at a northern California company. I finally asked what substances the warning applied to in this particular building. The reply was, "We think it may be the chromium in the chairs." Now chromium is a heavy metal, and can be toxic in certain compounds -- as hexavalent chromium was found to be in southern California by the work of Erin Brockovich. But chromium metal plated onto the handles of office chairs is not going to leach into groundwater. I voted against Prop 65, by the way.

Class of '98 here. It wasn't much better back then, either. If only we had cyberschooling back then, I could have probably gotten myself a college degree and had a job that would have paid more than 5x what I'm making now. But, my school environment was very subpar, lots of bullies, lots of time wasted in stuff I already knew, and lack of options as to what to do for secondary education. I'm a retail manager now, but when I was a kid, I always aspired to be a computer programmer. Who knows where I could have wound up, had cyberschooling existed back then, if I could have been taught at *my* pace, rather than the pace of the slowest kids in the school, if the school system actually cared about bullies and other stupid junk going on. I can only imagine it's only gotten worse since, which is why cyberschooling is looking far more attractive. A coworker of mine described the cyberschooling atmosphere to me, and ... I could only *wish* I had access to that when I was in school.

The older teacher had their way of doing things, but was expensive. The new ones are cheaper, can be moulded and are less likely to complain at the ever increasing workload. Happy teachers = happy students, but stressed teachers = stressed students. And those at the top of the education business often just don't care...

@@redbasher636 There are 3.2 million public schoolteachers currently on America's payroll. These are breadwinner jobs chock full of benefits. In fact, one could argue that the job itself is a benefits package, the teaching part just something to pass the time. Of course, the unions want the public to think that teachers spend their ample free time down on the corner standing around an old barrel full of scrap wood and cardboard for heat so they don't freeze to death while playing their well worn harmonicas for tips. How exactly is working nine months a year and being paid for twelve while never working nights, weekends, or holidays considered "abuse?" And what was Ms. Coffman's beef with the school board? Were school board members stealing her lunch money and putting limberger cheese in her locker? What was Ms. Coffman's basic malfunction that prevented her from doing a job that 3.2 million other "highly educated, awesomely talented professionals" can do in their sleep?

The school district are still trying to do more with very less beyond reason. And coming up with actions that hurts both teachers and students. It's very easy to talk like you are an expert until you get hit with the worst. Talking trash about teachers isn't going to get us anywhere when the real problem is multi. For students, parents who poorly raise their children. For teachers, staff in the school districts is pretty much like every other issue in other industries, full of people who likely are incompetent in their careers, and act like all their ideas will work when it's making their teachers go out the door. Guess what: if you sacrifice others for your own survival, neither will survive. (Hm, makes me wonder how you would do when they're forcing your own medicine upon you...) But don't worry, you'll learn all about this once you're old enough to go school. PS: care to elaborate on "bully only as much as people can take"? What does that look like? @holiday671 You do realize that a lot of teachers don't just work from school bell to school bell, right. They start anywhere from an hour earlier to an hour or more later as well, along with having meetings with parents and students after school and also helping students with problems after the school day has ended. They also take work home with them to grade assignments, grade tests, create lesson plans, gets grades ready for report cards etc. They are also required to work a week past the schools closing for the summers and they also have to get lesson plans and activities ready for the beginning of the next school year during their so called summer vacation and the same goes for any of their vacations throughout the year. The amount of work that goes into being a teacher isn't just what you want to see but a whole lot more. And yes there are some teachers that do the bare minimum and ride it but they are very few and far between but the most of them go that extra mile to do their work and make sure their students are taught and ready for the next stage whether it be grade 2 or college/university. The $60,000 for the amount of work that is required and the extra they put into their job probably works out to be like $4-$6 an hour which isn't a lot compared to the lack of work from the school administrators that make $160,00+ per year and vote their own raises in when they feel they need more money and do less than half the work of any teacher
