The fly like it's quidditch line is also a reference to a song. There was a Harry Potter parody of Like A G6 called Like It's Quidditch that Peter made 10 years ago.

So here is how it happened: Dumbledore, after finding out that Voldemort has made at least one horcrux, was wondering if he made more. And Voldemort had. He intended to have seven horcruxes, but ended up splitting up his soul in much more than 8 parts. One of the horcruxes he created was an ancestral ring that happened to have the resurrection stone in it. And Dumbledore, having a bit of a shady past where he may or may not have been responsible for killing his sister Ariana was very much tempted to use the resurrection stone. That set in motion a necrotic curse that was placed on the ring that would have killed him quite quickly had Snape not been able to contain it for a while. But this only bought Dumbledore some time. At most one year. So he made arrangements with Snape that Snape should kill him when the time is there. And that is how Snape came to 'murder' Dumbledore . But yeah, Dumbledore was basically raising Harry as a pig for slaughter. It's only after the 4th book when Voldemort used a bit of Harry's blood to grant him a new body, that Dumbledore figured that Harry may have a decent chance to survive this all.

I like that Gandalf stated "you TRY to win your battles with 2 fat hobbits". In the end, while Samwise and Frodo got the ring to Mount Doom, Frodo was too corrupted to throw it in and Samwise couldn't overcome him. If it hadn't been for Golum biting off Frodo's finger to rescue his precious, the whole thing would have failed.

@@UltimateGamerCC Well... no... that succumbed to the ring's power in the end. It was the madness of Golum that saved the world in the end. You CAN argue that that was only possible because Frodo and Bilbo were kind enough to let him live, but if Golum hadn't been there to go mad with greed at the end, the world would have been completely screwed.

@@yorkieandthechihuahua perhaps, or perhaps in the end it was Smeagol who listened to Frodo and while Gollum was fighting for the ring, Smeagol was leading them closer to the fire, have to remember that when you speak of Gollum, there is two distinct personalities, Smeagol and the poison in his mind, aka Gollum.

@@UltimateGamerCC Ok, accepted, but you still reach the point where if Golum hadn't gone mad with greed and bitten off Frodo's finger which had the ring, falling into the fires with it, then everything would have ended badly. In the end, however looked at, good will and kindness got them so far... but it was crazed greed that secured the day.

Also, Gandalf is a demi-god (The Ainur Race).... he literally doesn't even need the ring he has, he can't die by most conventional means. One of his abilities as a demi-god is reincarnation, aside from being part of the race responsible for creating the entire world. Having the ring is just for big dick energy tbh, also to keep guard over one of them so Sauron's army can't get a hold of at least one of them.. but mostly big dick energy. Saying Gandalf is nothing made NO sense when he is literally everything.

Note when Dumbledore is "sniffing" his wand, it kinda looks like "love beads" with the knobs on it (and you know where those go :D) Also, in regards to Dumbledore being the villain, one can make the argument that Gandalf is kind of a villain too in Lord of the Rings, since he orchestrated the whole thing from the first Hobbit movie. He goes to Bilbo to bring him on the quest, even though Bilbo isn't really a thief. So I postulate that he knew that Bilbo would gain possession of a ring of power (he apparently didn't know that it would be the one ring). And then, in order to destroy Sauron, he pretty much orchestrates the war of the ring so that Frodo could get to Mount Doom. Laudable goals but bought with plenty of lives. Great reaction as usual👍🏾

He didnt know that Bilbo would get that ring. He used the whole reconquering of the mountain to make the defenses stronger at that place because he knew that Sauron will be back and soon to be almost back at full strength and he wanted Smaug dead because he could become a powerful ally to Sauron. Gandalf didnt know that Bilbo has the One Ring. Saruman knew a lot about the ring but didnt say anything until it was too late. War was coming anyway. Gandalf prepared everything to defend middle earth since he basicly is some sort of arch angel beeing. Thats how he got revived by the gods, the valar. Gandalf is not really a villain. xD

@@kaisernightfall417 Talking about this has made me watch the first Hobbit again (extended edition ^^). When Gandalf is talking to the rest of the council, he specifically mentions the seventh Dwarven ring, that it was last in the possession of Thrain (Thorin's father) and has disappeared. So it seems that beyond his desire to deal with Smaug, he thought that they would find the seventh dwarf ring but he didn't know that Bilbo would find the One ring. I think, near the end of the movie, when Bilbo rejoins them, Gandalf notices that Bilbo has a ring of power.

Actually the wizard that Dumbledore preferred the company of WAS his own age: it was Gellert Grindelwald, a wizard that most of the wizarding world would come to fear long before Tom Riddle (Voldemort) was born. It was likely that lingering affection for him that kept Dumbledore from going to stop Grindelwald until he became too big of a problem to be ignored anymore. Likewise it was likely due to that same affection that Grindelwald didn't make their final duel to the death, that he allowed himself to be brought in alive, and that he resisted telling Voldemort that Dumbledore was in possession of his Elder Wand (to try and keep him from violating Dumbledore's grave.)

In the books, the prophecy was actually supposed to be about "a child born at the end of July." It could've been about either Neville or Harry. It wasn't until Voldemort interpreted it to mean the Potters that it became about Harry.

Curious on your opinion. While this one is a classic, do you feel like it's a mismatch out of the gate? One is a wizard by title, more akin to an angel, who is restricted from even using his full power, one of the original entities in middle earth, while the other is the stereotypical wizard we have come to know. I feel like Merlin vs Dumbledore would have been a much better matchup.

I don't historical Merlin was a typical man either with most legends having him be the son of a demon. Also he could make fortresses appear out of almost nothing. Basically Nerlin was a magical demigod I his own right. Plus both Gandalf and Dumbledore are tp varying degrees modeled after him.

Always fun... But nah, Dumbledore is the real hero. He puts all of the tough decisions on himself. He's obviously extremely caring and being able to push his feelings (and life) aside to ensure the safety of the world is an incredible sacrifice. If I remember correctly, he cares so much for Harry that he almost sacrificed that same world to take Harry's burden. That's my pocket change on the matter. Stay up.

What's funny is Dumbledor calling Gandalfs spells a joke. Gandalf is essentially an angel with unimaginable power, but is restricted in how much of it he is permitted to actually use. If Gandalf was allowed to use even a fraction of his true power he could solo Dumbledor and pretty much much all of the Harry Potter universe's wizards at once.

Wizard technically is a genderless term, the same way as witch is, we just are used to associate each of those sorts of magics with different stuff. Wizards are fighters, they cast powerful spells, and in general we associate it with males because..... do I really need to explain millenia of mysogyni? Witches are brewers, they make potions, it's as close to "culinary magic" as it gets, and for the same reason it was given a female connotation. That's also why the term Witch-Doctor exists, it's sort of to say "see? this one is a doctor, it means it's a HE".
