I'm 51, not playing baseball since I was 16 but playing fast pitch and modified softball since I was 28. Constantly working on my swing and a couple of years back, during a workout, I found that swinging with my back hip to the ball and letting my hands go as a simultaneous movement, instead of pushing my hands to the ball and rotating was kind of effortless compare to the lifelong instructions we normally get. Then 2 months ago, watching some videos in youtube to start my prep for this upcoming season I see this OG Teacherman explaining his hitting techniques. I go back to the videos of myself working on my theory, (with no leg kick cause my way is "the less movements you involve to go, the faster you get to it") and bingo, the explanation of my aplication, translated in real digestible words. Sir, you're completely right. As an elder, the longest shots or hard hit balls I had, is when I feel or when recorded, I can see I did exactly what you recommend. Real facts from an old but still active user!!!

I always couldn't understand how Barry Bonds was swinging. It always looked like he was spinning and didn't look like he was putting any effort. But by watching Teacherman's videos was able to to make me understand it. I started playing again for the first time in 30 years. At first the knowledge didn't make sense but if you try practicing what is taught here I believe you'll get to that aha moment. Thank you KZbin and thank you Teacherman. Even playing softball now I wondered why some guys after swinging wild spin off their back foot bringing their front foot around post swing. It’s because they are doing the same thing. Swinging off the back leg and whipping the bat from behind their ear

Teach I agree with your method even though I was very sceptical at the beginning. I started my swing conversion probably a couple of months ago. I couldn't get a good feel at the start because I had my own swing. Well, fast forward to 2 weeks ago and I went 3-4 and 2-4 with a home run! Hadn't hit a home run in a couple of years. Last week we had a nother 2 games and I went 4-4 and 3-4 with 3 doubles. I have more accuracy and the ball is leaving the bat with🔥🔥🔥. Thanks again Teach!

when I look at these two swings, the one on the left has the slight tilt back which is what he teaches, but the barrel does not drop till the hands are in the zone which is not what he teaches. He teaches them to drop the barrel to the catcher first. That is not what he is doing, the one on the right is droping his Barrell early at the catcher. SO what it looks like to be is you are half right.

Rich, you are correct. What you’re teaching is dead on…I watch ppl teach stuff like Bleeker all the time. They’re tied to their approach. I too am amazed at what ppl describe what they think they see vs what is actually happening…the cognitive dissonance is off the charts. All you can do is walk away. Keep up the great work!
@carlingram8316
@carlingram8316 Жыл бұрын
But how do you know which side is guessing and which is correct? Watching video can be very misleading, no matter what you're thinking is going on. That's when other tools like motion capture & force plates help to reduce assumptions. Rich may be 100% correct, but when you don't have anything to back up your claims other than matching video (especially when the picture looks different like Judge-vTrout), it's hard to convince people. Bottom line, both sides look like they are more interested in being right than getting it right. Hopefully one day we can all learn from each other instead of putting the other side down.
@Showcardsusa
@Showcardsusa Жыл бұрын
@@carlingram8316 the difference is really clear though Carl. Most of your best hitters coil well and then move down with the barrel and keeping their hands back rather than moving their hands further forward. Once you start looking at a more “hands to the ball” approach vs “tilt and generate speed behind your ear” type movement the nuance becomes more and more glaring. Rich isn’t saying players can’t hit a ball with the other approach, he’s indicating that you can get the ball on path with a downward move to create a bat snap. I use the difference in these two types of approaches to locate prospects before the mainstream catches on to them (that’s the goal! Sometimes ppl like Julio Rodriguez get well known young and as such don’t afford me the ability to buy their higher value sports cards at a discount early on

I will have to say that I wish your swing knowledge existed when I was a youth player. I could never keep up with the fastball as soon as 80+ mph started coming at me in my teens. Everything you explain makes sense and you present it in a way that is absorbable to even youth players. I agree with you that the HLP will be extremely dominant in the games next generations of players and it will be the model I teach my players.

My kid tried the push swing for a long time with zero real success. One year in with Richards info and college coaches can’t get enough of her barrel success which they think is a push swing. They think she has a push swing but cannot recognize the difference and cannot understand why others are not having the same success. Everyone says that lunging and casting is bad but that is what they teach. Most of their drills make you lung and cast. When you point it out they argue about it.

I have a 15 year old freshman. The kid is talented but is struggling at the plate. He’s 6’2 and 135 pounds with a 6’6 wingspan. We worked hitting last night after his game and it’s just so much to teach. He was getting discouraged and I explained sob, you’re talented, you rarely get up and just miss the ball. When you figure it out you’re going to rake. We came home and I had an “a ha” moment swinging his plastic bat. I was coiling and balancing on one leg which is part of his problem swinging. He doesn’t “stay back.” So I had him try it with hands staying at shoulder but coiling on one leg. He absolutely slammed everything I threw at him. Bottle caps and small ping pong balls. I hope it translates. He really loves the game but is discouraged. How quick did it translate?

@@JAMuUP first game was about a week and a half after work and his first at bat he sent one pretty deep to centerfield. I was like.. ok ok. Well it looks good. Good for him. But I’ve seen him do that enough to know that he’s going to occasionally get those hits. But then he got up to bat again and absolutely slammed a ball. Deep to centerfield warning tracks. The crazy thing is he did that rolling over. But had much of the other stuff on point. Last two at bats he reverted back to old horizontal swings. I was to be expected though. They made the playoffs but the coach has his seniors. All good though. Their assistant coach also played with his swing so i had to correct it for him. We just got it back again and it’s even better and stronger. His swinging 33 ounce bats like twigs. This method is the truth. That balance on the back leg is where it starts. He’s convinced and so am I. It takes a bit to understand it. I’ve swing the bay several times trying to get the mechanics solid. He does it about twice a week for 5 minutes and somehow has picked it up quicker than me.

I don't know how to properly use your swing, but what I do know has helped my Godson and myself hit a lot better, just by watching your KZbin videos and trying to figure it out. I got him coiling, tilt, and using his wrist to bring the bat down to give him a proper swing radius into the ball path longer. I've been watching Barry Bonds a whole lot to try and mimic this as best as possible.

Rich, the most important thing you've taught me - and you've taught me a lot - is something that should be fundamental to every hitting instructor: how to read a swing. As a result of learning that from you, I have found myself, I guess, gobsmacked at how many people - players, coaches, TV booth personalities (especially) - cannot do that. I don't see how anyone can coach or teach hitting without learning and understanding how to read a swing.

This is actually very closely related to a one-plane golf swing. Disregarding how the wrist moves, the body's reaction is to the swing. A one-plane player releases the club from the top. Immediately. It looks dumb if you just stand there. When you match it up with the body, it's perfect. I just found your channel. This is exactly what I am going to start doing with my son. I have no doubt that what you are teaching is the best way to swing. Thank you for the amount of content you have available.

Exit velo is irrelevant if you can’t maximize ability to recognize pitches and pull the trigger. Moving to front leg clearly makes it more difficult to recognize and time up those pitches. It’s simple physics. I’ve been told the biggest difference between the minors and the show is the quality of off speed and movement of pitches thus increasing the need to minimize the time between pitch recognition and trigger pull. Baseball guys have always been against change. They want to do things the way things have always been done. I played in college. I wish I had your information then! I’m teaching my six year old now. Thank you for everything you do.

I’m new to baseball but to put what I understood (as far as the power of the swing) in another way the shift your weight to the front foot and swing that he teaches sounds like a jab, whereas keeping the weight on the rear leg and launching from there is like a cross. Anyone who has done any form of striking training knows that a cross produces more power than a jab.

I believe Trouts weight shifted as his back foot is off the groud one frame after your pause when you said his weight was back. But I know he's got his front arm compressed to his chest. Judges front arm isn’t because he throws his hands forward so he's not fully "connected" at contact. Their bat path might be similar or the same but Trout would hit half as many HRs with Judges swing and Judge twice as many with Trouts swing.

Have you ever thought of the golf swing. There was a guy called moe norman. Best ball striker in the world. They asked him what was the secret sauce. He said the butt of the club on the downswing is higher that the head of the club on the downswing. Ben hogan said the same thing

I wish he was closer so I could take my son to his clinics. Just with his videos, my son is hitting so much better than he was, but I believe I have taken it as far as I can go with teaching him. I live in Maine, does anyone in Maine teach this swing?

Ty Cobb, Pete Rose, Barry Bonds, Tony Gwynn were all Great hitters and all of them did things DIFFERENTLY. The key is to discover what works for YOU. If you can get consistent RESULTS off of quality pitching, that's what you do. I believe that Teacherman is teaching an ELITE movement skill that obviously works; however, it's not the only way to hit a ball hard. If we focus on RESULTS, I think that would eliminate a lot of the criticism between instructors.

The shifting of the weight problem is the deal breaker for me. Takes too much time to for that transition. Good job.

My recommendation is to ignore Mr. Bleeker. I have never heard of him before. I can't tell you how much I wish I had learned your techniques when I was playing ball in the early nineties (my daughters account and pic). I am moving to your instruction with my boys and daughter. I suspect they will improve. In my years of experience with life, I have learned that those people who attack truth know they are wrong, and are threatened by the truth. truth seekers welcome truth wherever and whenever they find it!

You know how this can be settled…hook Aaron up to sensors like golfers do. Check out Athletic Motion Golf KZbin channel. They have gears software that they can provide proof if you can get Aaron hooked up.

I wanna see Eugene hit bc I've never seen a guy teachermans age hit pee rods the way he does. I got it, teacherman vs Eugene DERBY. My money's on teacherman.

Rich, if I had known about your technique as a child, I could've made it to the big leagues just like my little league teammate Bernard Gilkey. He was a man-child when we were young kids but I believe techniques like yours could've made up for my lack of size because I had speed and defensive ability. However, I still have small children and I will be showing your videos to them now and programming their minds to see what proper technique looks like. God bless you Rich!!

Would Rich’s method be best for slow pitch softball?

It honestly would. You can still adjust your feet mid-pitch in softball though.

I don’t want to type a lot but is it crazy to think that both “swings” have its own strengths and weaknesses? I feel like from stuff I see some I have done. One is pretty much a pull swing and the other is a oppo swing not that either cant hit in or outside pitches but the ball will be hit with more authority in those directions depending on how the swing approaches are, on a more consistent bases. Also that limbo area he talks about I feel like wouldn’t be an issue if you are on “time”. But good stuff as always gives us more tho think about and learn from.

I think Eugene’s technic “works” to generate power, but just because it can produce power doesn’t mean it’s the best or most efficient way. If the game was tee ball, then fine, but when you’re trying to hit a ball going 90+ mph, you better have a quick and efficient way into the ball. That’s where, I believe, Rich’s method separates itself from other methods. There is no way to hit a ball that is more powerful AND quick to the ball
