Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy

Theodoric the prince who killed Boethius was not clearly an Emperor being a ruler of the Ostrogoths. However, I imagine it was far from clear to those ruled. As the Empire came apart in the west and ceased to be Roman it retained the trappings of the old order. Theodoric as a ruler instituted a campaign to maintain the flow of clean water, and maintain civic architecture. Diversity was not exactly the Roman's strength. Curiously Theodoric and the Ostrogoths were Christian but they held some beliefs regarding the trinity which varied from orthodox thought on the subject. As the current generation of Dominicans like to say, "It matters what you think." Fall on the wrong side of the discussion and you're a heretic and a barbarian. Such is the way of fortune.

Awesome lecture. Sounds like a thinking man's way to contemplate the themes of Job/Ecclesiastes. Is the Penguin Classics version free online anywhere? (Since it is a good edition?)

No, I believe it costs some money. (But there is at least one free English translation online, and it is probably not bad.)
