When my son was about 8, kids in his class were all asked what their parents did for work. My partner and I didn't work at that point, so my son (who lives with my mum) told the class that his grandad was a rocket scientist. Everyone said he was lying, including the teacher, and he got really upset, then pissed off about it. They called my mum in to "discuss Jake's behaviour." Teacher: Jake has been very angry today because he got caught lying. My mum: Right. Well, what was he lying about? Teacher (really pedantically): He said his grandad is a rocket scientist, and that's obviously just not true. My mum (equally pedantically): Jake said that because he *is* and Jake is very proud of him. Teacher: 😮

I've probably been this person before. The fact that I have very loose connections to two infamous serial killers just seems too interesting to not share. I was born and raised in the same city John Wayne Gacy lived in for several years before he ever actually killed anyone. My childhood home was two houses over from where he used to live (not at the same time as me, he was executed when I was a little over a year old). I was friends with the kid that lived there and spent many hours in that home. The other connection is to BTK. My paternal grandma lived in the same city as him during the same time period as his killing spree. She was a young, newly divorced single mom and felt very vulnerable. It's a miracle she turned out to be one of the most optimistic, bubbly people I've ever met despite having to live those years in a constant state of fear.

My teachers often forgot the "about yourself" part of the question so my 5 year old self started talking about the mummification process to my class of fellow 5 year old kindergarteners "did you know the ancient Egyptians pulled brains out through the mummies noses?" then by year 2 (7/8) my answer was "Did you know the bubonic plague is still around today? But don't worry that much if you catch it early enough you have a pretty good chance of survival thanks to modern medicine, unless it manifests as pneumonic or septicaemic plague in which case you're pretty much dead no matter what." With a huge smile on my face because I got to infodump about my interests and I'm going to retrospectively apologise for any plague/mummification nightmares I gave any small children lol

So I moved to a new school in grade 9 (2010) and it was a question like “what’s something you can do that you don’t think others can”? Well it was after the movie Up was released and I had perfected Doug’s voice over the Christmas holidays so I did the voice and one of the lines from the film and everyone just stared at me like I was a weirdo… I then said “well, I can move my ears without touching them”. That got a better reaction than my impression of Doug (which is still pretty amazing). You won’t be surprised to hear that I was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD in my mid twenties 😂😂😂

I taught 7th grade math in a rough area and had kids say they didn’t need math as they were going to be on welfare. I made sure they knew that you need to know if your welfare checks and food stamp cards were correct! I verbally beat into them the fact that math was needed by EVERYONE no matter what goals they did or didn’t have. During summer school math with a very small class (lots of parent permission, etc.) and walked them to McDonald’s to learn how to estimate so they knew they had enough money. We learned negative numbers by playing gin rummy. That summer class was the BEST! During the regular school year O was miserable dealing with over 30 kids per class and 160 homework papers to grade every night. Moved on to school system tutoring for kids who were in special mental health centered programs. I can handle anything one on one.

A 4 year old was adamant he went on a day trip to the moon with his grandparents who drove him there. He was at that age of embellishing things, and struggling to tell some dreams from reality, so he'd dreamt he'd gone on a trip to the moon with granny and grandad, then embellished additional details for anyone who asked. He's the same kid who's convinced one day, he'll turn into Spiderman if an emergency happens.

My go-to fun fact is that I'm part of a standing world record (a con I go to had the world's largest gathering of people dressed like wizards, so my friends and I went). But I think the most interesting one I've ever got, as a professor, was the student who'd just passed a fluency and interpretation test for Japanese at the embassy. He gave his intro in English, then in fluent Japanese. The class was suitably impressed, and my bilingual students strongly considered flexing back on him (but chose not to for the sake of time, haha)

So the thing about lice, you can treat lice with mayonnaise. You put it in your hair for about 2 hours. It should suffocate everything from the bug to the eggs. Its way cheaper than the shampoo and is easier on your hair. It also is a better option if you have certain product in your hair. When i was a kid, my whole kindergarten class got lice right after my mom got my hair permed. The combination of the perm chemicals and the lice treatment stuff ruined my hair and we had to cut nearly all of it off. THEN we found out about the mayonnaise.

You don't have to be a professional bowler to get a 300 (a perfect game). A lot of bowling alleys will have high scores for that alley posted on the wall, and there's almost always a good handful of 300s. Amateurs who regularly bowl at the same alley will learn how the typical oil pattern behaves there, and can score multiple 300s. But alleys can put down different patterns, and being able to read it and accurately adjust to different patterns is what separates a great bowler from the good bowlers.
@GogiRegion
@GogiRegion 6 ай бұрын
Especially when the oil patterns at most commercial alleys are less oiled in the middle and more oiled near the edge to make it easier to score well. Professional tournaments just use an even oil pattern across the width so that it takes more skill to do well.

A positive story? No, worse injury I was in highschool, equivalent in Mexico it's called 'prepa', and there's a state library only a few blocks away so a teacher organized an outing there because it's not far and we are basically all 17 and up and can cross the street and just go there and hang out because that's the place where we'll have our photos for graduation taken. Well we walk there and no one's hurt....but once we are going down a street the teacher starts to panic and try to get us to cross the street but we are a big group of 40 kids and she decided to take 2 classes and the other teacher is trying to help her but we can't all be ushered to cross the street in time and we come to discover a man screaming his head off, he was on a bike and was ran over by a big truck, the driver and one of the teachers are standing on the street, they already had called for an ambulance but for that exact minute the man had to scream in agony. I have to cross the street, the teacher telling us sternly to not look up and that we couldn't do anything for the man that help was on its way but *not to look at him* , I was with a friend of mine and we are two scared 17 year olds having to cross the street while the man screams. "Girls, girls!! You girls!! Help me, help me, help me it hurts so much!!!" While crying in absolute pain. It's certain to say that library visit wasn't a good visit,..also I looked and the man's legs were torn 'around' the bike, literally, there was white bone and red gushing flesh around it.

The brushing routine story, I haven't been that great at brushing my teeth and of course I now have a lot of issues which I'm getting sorted. But my hygienist suggested putting a toothbrush by the kitchen sink. Yes I know to some this is gross. But really it's probably more sanitary than by the bathroom sink. Plus you're going to wipe the area after anyways so... But anyway I can go on for awhile on this one 😅. So I did. Even put mouthwash in a water bottle. So now no matter what I do I have no excuse as to why I haven't brushed my teeth. Even went so far as to getting an aquaflosser which is amazing. My teeth are doing a lot better since I've actually been taking care of them. Take care of your teeth. Don't ignore them like I did or else you may end up needing a lot of fillings. I seriously sat through 16 in one appointment and 9 in the next. Not recommended but I wanted to get it done and over with. Brush your teeth.

When I was like 9 or ten I jumped from the top of a mountain,(not that High, probably about a 3 story building) I somehow survived with a scratch on my knee. 2. I once made a small wooden boat, and was riding it in a pond (not too deep, about the size of a normal pool). I jumped from it into the water... I couldn't breathe and was underwater for like more than 20s, I somehow managed to grab the boat and survived.(I was about 7,or 8) 3.(This is the most recent one) I was cycling on near our house and accidentally fell in some way that the cycle's handle almost pierced my stomach.(Still have a scar) Btw my parents never found out about any of this happening, I often tell my friends and other people about these.

Screw positive stories bi- One time (this was years ago) I was at the park with my 2 friends, and it was time to go home. My parents called me over and I decided to run over to them instead of safely walking because I was already pumped up from all the fun I had at the park, and while I was running, my parents told me to slow down. Did I listen to them? Nope. I continued running until I hit a curb on the pavement and was slammed into said pavement. Both my knees had huge gashes and they were bleeding A lot. I was bawling my eyes out when I had gotten up. I literally couldn't breathe due to how hard I hit the ground.

To bad you get an injury story :) I was being an idiot and not paying attention to where my finger was and cut the tip of it open deep. The pad of it not the nail. I now have a very large scar and a numb patch. I had to get stitches and was told the numbness may or may not go away.

I knew a kid who held his crap for many days at camp. On a 9 day camping trip, he could only manage 7 before he had to use the outhouse. Today he's a somewhat famous political commentator/writer. You've probably heard of him.

2:53 in 2013 I had all four fingers on my right hand ripped off. Two got tangled together and two had bone exposed. Someone found the skin off of the two bones just sitting in the parking lot where I lost them. Like someone had pulled a glove off. Needless to say they couldn’t save them.

My wife taught preschool to a mob lawyer in New York. The 4 year old would regularly talk about going with his dad to visit prison and various terrible things he had heard. She had never heard more cursewords from a kid that young. The teachers raised the concerns to his parents about what he was being exosed to. They mostly thought it was amusing. I don't remember exactly how they ended up leaving the school, but they weren't there the full school year.

A few years ago after spring break our math teacher (who honestly wasn’t as bad as stereotypical ones) had to put down her dog, a few classes later I saw her walking out of the classroom bawling, it turns out a kid said over spring he got a new puppy and said he loved it so much and was glad it didn’t die, “unlike someone’s I know”. And yes it was intended towards her, what made it worse was he didnt get dog. His dad actually divorced his mom a few weeks later and it took every last bit of effort I had in my body not to say anything.

Story 37: it’s not appropriate and if you think about the logistics of it, a female who is only a few years beyond high school herself is talking to high schoolers about her s3x life, including infidelity. If you dig deeper I’m pretty sure she’s at least tried to groom one of her students before. That’s the door opener to that sort of thing as normal adults don’t consider children as good audiences for that sort of story. Red flag

What are the worst injuries I’ve ever was going to close to a fan blade when I was on my older sister‘s loft bed, and then my left eye got its eyelids cut open, and it was really really close to cutting my left eye. You could see the flash there was a little scar on that flesh if I had any, wear closer to that fan blade I would be blinded in my left eye

the narrator mentions doing trigger warnings in future content at 32:47 and i have to say i absolutely agree just on principle! this channel has a lot of stories that sort of unexpectedly involve topics like violence, death, SA, etc., even in videos not focusing on those things, so i think providing a trigger warning either for the entire video (when the focus is primarily negative) or for individual stories (when the focus isnt primarily negative) would be a great idea! this is one of literally 3 reddit channels i dont think are garbage on this platform and to hear that even one narrator on the team considers that as an idea is good evidence as to why haha

injury story: Once, I was riding my bike down a steep hill on a gravel trail. I crashed my bike and got several deep cuts all over my left arm. I still have scars from them 2 years later. Another story is that one time, I had a nightlight. One of those incandescent bulbs that get hot. I accidentally touched it and got a blister.

Story 79 is the most horrifying! I have it on pretty good authority, (my private dentist), that wetting your toothbrush before or after applying toothpaste dilutes the toothpaste, making it's teeth cleaning properties less affective! This should be more widely known! NB- "Would you make Jesus do math?" we need this on a wristband.
