Actually, from a physics standpoint, it is the aerodynamics of the ball traveling through the air, is why spin causes the ball to drop with topspin. Gravity pulls on all objects with the same acceleration. Just saying.

Great video of showing top spin. There was a time where my shots were almost all flat shots. You should have a session focused on the legs. She usually hits the ball with an open stance, moving her weight from right to left, instead of back to forward. Bad weight transfer will soak up most of her power. Also seems to have a habit of bending at the waist when she should be bending her knees more to adjust the height of the racket.

Friction between the surface of the ball and the air is greater at the top of the ball than the bottom. I think this is a better explanation as to what’s going on. Has nothing to do with a change in gravity as mentioned at 4:26

Why is she leaning forward as she hits? It’s like her body is 45 degrees from the ground, there’s no push off the right leg, and it’s as if she’s using a heavy racquet which is why the swing looks heavy. She’s also dropping her left arm too soon, it’s affecting her balance.
@MATHEW940613 жыл бұрын
The spin affect air pressure around the ball, which makes the ball travel faster and go down. Gravity has nothing to do with it. I know the teacher was just making it simple and he is not a physicist. Very good tennis coach. I love these videos.

So, classic straight back forehand players such as Jimmy Connors or John McEnroe should never been able to beat the "father of the modern forehand" Bjorn Borg?? There are certainly advantages to hitting topspin forehand shots. But Nick trying to make Anna into another Federer stroke impersonator is absolutely unnecessary (and in Anna's case, impractical). There are a lot of ways to hit topspin forehand, and most people don't hit it like Federer does. Anna's other instrhctor (coach) was obviously more interested in helping Anna with her point playing abilitg with the strokes she currently has.
@Hedgehog10393 жыл бұрын
He didn't suggest that at all. He even said "You can do it like that". They were really good and mastered their technique. Also, pretty much everyone nowadays hits with a modern forehand (not just Federer) and there will be reasons for that ;)
@Fearless-13 жыл бұрын
@@Hedgehog1039 Nick was essentially dissing the classic hitters. At college and pro level, modern FH is perhaps the right way. But at recreational level, IMO, the Federer wannabees' struggles with their Fed FHs makes them somewhat easy to beat. His previous video with Anna about 9 months ago, explicitly shows Nick introducing to Anna the so called modern forehand in lieu of her natural "classic" straight back forehand. Nick doesn't mention the name "Federer", but the style nuances are clearly Federer's hallmark forehand. Anna immediately struggled with the Federer like open face vertical racquet looping backswing and windshield wiper follow through. She still struggles with that Federer forehand and is probably the reason she went to try a different instructor ("coach"). Anna is a recreational player with no aspirations for turning pro. There is no practical benefit to Anna for Nick to put her through this. Nick is predominantly focused on stroke mechanics and is a very good instructor in this regard. However, Anna would benefit more overall from instruction that focuses on angles, tactics, consistency, footwork, psychology, etc.
