When children are transitioning from liquid medications to the pill-form of medications, they have to learn something counterintuitive - swallowing without chewing. It's not a natural behavior and needs to be learned.

This is for the people who’s it’s first time taking gel pills. It was also my first time and I was super scared, so what I did was I filled a round cup with water, ( filled it with a water bottle and I put the pill in the tip of my mouth. I took small but lots of fast gulps of water and next thing you know, the pill is gone. It might feel strange when it goes down but that’s normal. And gel pills have absolutely no taste so if you’re scared that you’re gonna taste it if it comes back up or just sits in the water inside your mouth, don’t worry, it has no taste. Btw I like to fill my cup halfway or past halfway with water, since I too, am scared of the water taking it’s time to reach the end, while the pill is sitting on my tounge

The thing I cannot stand about pill swallowing is that there is ACTUALLY a chance that you could choke on the pill or have it get stuck in your airway if not taken properly. That makes pill swallowing so much harder!

Just say to yourself that it is good for you and you will get better and all you have to do is put the pill kind of like in the back of your tounge and for me I do it with a straw btw, but it doesn't really matter, but then you just pretend your drinking water and then swallow it, and for me I would eat something right after swallowing it.

Had my 2nd bad experience with choking on pills the other day. Needed to take Tylenol which is a rather large pill. So I cut the pill in half, thinking this would be a breeze. It got stuck and I was gasping for air. Tried to gulp water, but that didn't help. Finally got it down somehow, just before calling 911.

I used a gargle method with my daughter after nothing else worked. Had her put the pill in her mouth with a medium swallow of apple juice. Gargle for a count of three then swallow quick.

The first time i tried taking a pill is when i took it and i ended up drinking the water and only the water came down my throat and not the pill. It just stayed on my tongue and i kept trying to swallow it (that’s what she said) with the water but it didnt move. The second time i tried taking a pill was win i ended up almost doing it but it tasted bad through the back of my tongue and i choked and went to the bathroom and started vomiting. I felt like i was gonna pass out. The third tome i tried taking a pill was when i had it with some yogurt to get used to a taste so my brain thinks that im eating something i like and when i ate it. IT ALMOST WORKED. It tasted good but then suddenly i felt the pill in my throat so i choked when to the bathroom and vomited and the yogurt came out too :( The fourth time i took a pill was when i drank a bunch and bunch and BUNCH of water before swallowing the pills, and when I finally took the pill it was moist enough so it ended up going well but the taste was horrible. So you guessed it.. I VOMITED AGAIN! I decided to stop taking pills and quit it for the rest of my life till one day… I got sick. So i had to take a pill. Then this time i tried a little yogurt juice with the pill to make it sweet so it doesn’t taste bad. I drank a bunch of water to keep my throat moist. My tongue was moist too. So I finally tried taking the pill AND QUICKLY DRANK HALF THE BOTTLE, I DIDNT REALIZE I DRANK HALF THE BOTTLE! Then it actually worked! I swallowed the pill! Then after 2 days i felt much better. So the lesson here is….. If you’re sick. Always take you’re pills.
