Nice job helping with the laundry Braylee! Life skills are great for her to learn. Ranger rides look like a lot of fun! Have a great night and day tomorrow at school! ❤😊

I didn’t have many chores growing up and I struggle getting my kids to do chores. To be fair, I don’t keep up with teaching them very well. I think you’re doing a great job!

Well, you were making a big change at the end there! Now I can't wait to see the next video. I always did my kids laundry until I knew they were getting ready to move out on their own and they needed to know how to do those things. i don't remember doing my own laundry as a kid but I probably did after my mother had to go to work when I was in middle school. I think it is great that B is being taught those life skills, even if she needs supervision while doing them. There is no doubt a sense of accomplishment for her and that is always a positive.

All my kids did their laundry by themselves by the time they were in jr. high. They also learned how to cook by the time they graduated high school.

I didn’t do laundry independently until I was 19. I also have disabilities different than braylee but still disabilities. I did however sort towels and my own clothes after they were washed. I did a couple of other chores in my house growing up though except when I was sick.

They make a tool to help fold laundry. It is a plastic board that you lay clothes flat on, then you flip the sides. It might help Braylee, it has helped me.

I love how teaching life skills. For the detergent, I have student practice filling a cup or measure cup to a line or tape line. Also if don’t mind can put a star on the dryer knob line and the location to stop and line them up. Or can take pics of steps and what look like. Just ideas. She might like a clothing folder. Don’t have to buy one but can make with cardboard and have an outline of the shirt on one and pants on another.

Yes it is common for kids to do their own laundry. Growing up I had to do everything, laundry , dishes , cleaning everything even practically raised my sister 11 years younger than me. My grandchildren all do their own laundry, the ones 10 and up. There are 5 children in family and mother works full time from home and homeschools autistic daughter. So the older ones do their own laundry on Sunday.

I love 2 see B doing this stuff. It's important 4 her at this age 2 really start learning alot of these life skills!! Do you have her help clean up her messes when she's done with stuff??

Yes we do they need to learn life skills . It’s sometimes harder for them to learn these.

Teaching these skills young are so important. I didn't do my laundry until I got to college, i would remember asking my friends which buttons to press. I kinda figured out the color and whites. Some machines are real easy, but later I encountered ones that were much more confusing. I also didn't know about the lint until I had my own machine. I was basically only required to make my bed, keep my room clean, and sometimes help with dishes. If I would have been taught more I would be more prepared. Braylee is doing a great job. On the teeth brushing, can you have her practice by herself, even if it's a little bit at a time. Is that something more difficult for kids on the spectrum?

ya my daughter learned to do laundry at a young age. My husband even built a step for her so she could reach to the bottom of the machine easier. Now she lives on her own and does it all herself. I am almost 61 and I used to help my mom with the laundry.

Have her pour the detergent into the cup to measure it. That was not a full load, so you could have used less detergent than filling the dispenser up.

You schould work on hercleaning up her messes she makes with her sensory stuff, loading & unloading the dishwasher, picking up her room, but laundry is something I do 4 mine & they are 13 & 16.. Basically jus cleaning up behind herself is what you schould work on right now!! But good job on the laundry Ms B..
@Jadyn_Sage
@Jadyn_Sage Ай бұрын
If you watch their videos regularly, you'll see that Braylee vacuums up the mess made after her paper cutting or balloon popping. She's also been loading & unloading the dishwasher for years. Remember that just because you don't see it on camera doesn't mean it's not happening Please be careful in telling parents (especially parents of autistic children or children with any disability) what they *should* be doing. Only they know what's best for their child
