Your friend had the benefit of watching you do it in person along with support and advice from you. You learned everything all on your own without much external support. This is all the more reason for you to try to meet and session with other rollerbladers (preferably ones that are more advanced than yourself) so that you can vibe off each other.

yeah that certainly helps! it was the same thing when I started mountain biking with him a couple years ago, he was a lot better than me which motivated me to get out there on the trails and get better so I could keep up

This is not to take away from your friend’s natural ability though. Doing a soul that well on the first day is definitely impressive.

Great video. Your friend has a much more mobile and open body. Skating is such a whole body athletic activity. The more athletic one is the quicker one picks it up. Unlike with let’s say skateboarding which is more technical unnatural movement. You’re improving though and making content that is great so respect sir respect 🫡

yeah he's a much more natural athlete and never really stopped being active since high school, his coordination really shows! And thank you I appreciate that!! I made even more progress once I got my new razor sl's they are a bit more forgiving in terms of boot down angle

@@inlineonline I have Asperger’s and I am a fitness/lifestyle coach. So I am used to just giving advice even when it’s not been asked for. I would like a to apologize for my interaction with you a few weeks ago. Trust me, I am not trying to be a smartass. I just need to remember that unless I am asked to not give advice. 😉 following you again perhaps one day we can have a game of skate. I am in the process of restarting full time and I have my angled soul on the factions. Very similar set up to yourself.

@@corneliusparkin2401 no worries my man I promise I didn't take it too heart! I have a bit of an argumentative personality so if my reply came off snappy I apologize for that as well. Advice is fine! I might not always take it but its still useful, and I can be super stubborn so its good to take in different perspectives even if I don't always agree

ah man that was really cool to watch your friend is pretty good. was also nice to see a different perspective on the place you skate. have you tried the quarter pipe drop in? also have you tried jumping over the box your grinding to test your jumping?
@inlineonline
@inlineonline 2 ай бұрын
I havent dropped in on that quarter or jumped the box, they are both grappy metal american ramp company ramps and they basically go untouched lol I might mess around with it a little bit but theres a skatepark 5 minutes away from this that has way better transition, just no round coping ledges haha I left a prail there but someone took it. This place has cameras so I felt a bit safer leaving my box here

@inlineonline
@inlineonline 2 ай бұрын
It's weird I like grinding slower because I get to feel like I'm on the grind for longer but it definitely looks way better when I skate faster
@chino15247
@chino15247 2 ай бұрын
You’ll find that speed and momentum (as long as it’s not too much) plays a big part to balancing. It’s kinda like riding a bicycle, harder to balance if you’re going super slow as opposed to having a bit of speed and momentum. Also, going slower doesn’t make the rail any longer 🤣. You tend to roll past the end of the rail a little bit before hopping on. On your approach, if you jump earlier by around 1-2 feet BEFORE the end of the rail you could slide a longer distance. This requires a certain level of confidence and precision (can only be gained through time, practice, and muscle memory) on your part to be able to lock on if jumping from a good distance away before the rail though.
@inlineonline
@inlineonline 2 ай бұрын
@@chino15247 yeah but the ammount of time you're on the grind is longer when you go slower, like when I'm pulling up slow it might take 3 whole seconds for my soul grind to end, but if I pull up as fast as I can its over in under a second. Same exact distance grinded but to me in my head, the slower one feels better. Its obviously way easier to balance when going fast, which almost tricks you into a false sense of confidence. For me it makes much more sense to start slow, make sure I can literally stop on the grind and keep balance. going as fast as I can and barely touching down into the grind before I'm off the coping doesn't really help me at all lol you don't really learn the balance point like that, you're just surviving off momentum alone. Its important to learn the balance first, then ramp up the speed. You can't just send it full speed, otherwise you're going to think you have better balance than you actually do. I see so many people who take years to learn any real tricks because they are flying around the park trying to do makios at 10 mph while NOT committing because they don't need to. The faster you go the less you actually have to commit to weighting your feel correctly and taking control of the balance, Easier is not always better, especially when learning remember it is just like riding a bike, you have WAY better balance if you can demonstrate a track stand, staying completely still while keeping the bike upright. Its harder, but its a real skill. Going fast on a bike doesn't help your balance, it just makes it EASIER to balance. Big difference. Anyone can balance a bike at speed, very little amount of people can track stand a bike. Slower takes more skill, more balance.
