That last royale was pretty decent. Not sure if you're looking for advice...but im going to give you a suggestion anyway. Try turning your butt towards the direction you are grinding and try looking down/over your lead shoulder. It should force your your body to twist, and your knees to bend more which will help to get that back leg underneath you better. Let me know if It helps or if you'd rather i keep my opinions to myself. Keep rockin brother. 🤘

I'm definitely going to try doing that again, that's the advice I got alot when I was first learning them But at that point I was still leaning over way too much so throwing me off balance. Now that I can keep my shoulders up a bit better I should be able to turn into it and land fakie more smoothly

Great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻 btw how heavy are you ? Cause I’m about 250 lbs and I have a hard time to manage longer grinds. Maybe it’s (at least partially) due to the weight ?!
@inlineonline
@inlineonline 11 сағат бұрын
I'm 210-215 but I was about 225 when I first started blading haha I'm a big boy as well we need to wax things alot but one of the benefits of being heavy is carrying momentum. When I have issues sliding to the end of the obstacle it usually because I'm not looking far enough ahead and not committing to getting on top of the obstacle. You really have to make sure that you're so is sliding easily when you test it, for me if there's any stick at all I won't slide, sometimes I have to ride by and drop my soul on the ledge three or four times just to get the wax worked in first and then it starts sliding. Sounds like a lot of stuff to do but I try to set myself up for success, also if your soul plates are gunked up with wax that will slow you down a lot

Have you considered working on spins (180s, 360s, 540s)? There are also variations for spins like doing them switch or while riding fakie.
@inlineonline
@inlineonline 14 сағат бұрын
I used to work on 180s and 360s but kinda put them aside until I start skating more regular parks, in about a week I'm not longer going to be able to keep my coping box in that "skatepark" so I'll have to start learning to skate at the park properly soon haha

If you skate this ledge in your driveway more often you can eventually break it in to slide really nice after working in multiple layers of wax.

Really bad transition from asphalt to metal plate to wood ramps but I've seen clips of other bladers shredding these ramps so it's certainly possible, just maybe not the best for me to learn on. There is one concrete park 20 minutes from me that's basically only transition, so if you see that in the thumbnail you know what I'm finally learning lol

Nice one on doing your first top soul!!! Progress is progress. Once you learn your first topside grind (acid for many), the rest tend to come along a bit more easily. This might turn out to be a useless tip, but when doing your grinds don’t hold your breath. Instead, try exhaling during the actual grind. When doing the most difficult part of any movement (push up, pull-up, or sit up), it’s always best to exhale. I’m suggesting this because sometimes you let out a big breath when you miss a grind so it makes me think you’re holding your breath during your grinds. You may or may not be actually holding your breath during your grinds but nonetheless, it’s good to keep in your mind to exhale as you’re coming down from the jump and landing into the grind itself. This tip doesn’t help at all if you miss locking on, but if you do lock on and exhale it should help with stability 🤣
@inlineonline
@inlineonline Күн бұрын
I think you're right I am holding my breathe sometimes when I jump, I was a really bad tendency to tense up alot. I'm going to consciously think about breathing correctly next session and see if it makes a difference. This is probably making me a bit more tired than I should be mid session

I'm still not great at top souls, but the one thing that strangely helped was working on backsides first. On a top soul you don't have to turn your back completely to the obstacle, but the front foot is in the same position and so to me it's a similar motion. Maybe give it a try and see what you think!

@inlineonline
@inlineonline 2 күн бұрын
if you go back to my super early videos youll see it took me a solid 2-3 months before I started having any real confidence, if you don't have a PVC rail yet I highly suggest you make one and learn with that. Step onto soul grinds, stall it a million times, try some frontside grinds. And don't force it, most my sessions were 15-30 minutes, especially when I didn't know any tricks. So give it a few good attempts to do either frontside or a step on soul grind on a small PVC rail.. and then slowly work up from there. The first couple weeks might be frustrating but you'll quickly realize you're making huge progress

@@inlineonline learning to stall the position on an unwaxed object is important to learn the proper lock in spot. A clean mizou will help with where the soul foot should land on it, where if you had back royale or an understanding of how it locks and slides it makes putting the backside royale foot in place simple.
