We taught our dog to ring a bell to let us know when she needed to outside and pee.
The first step was to teach Belle what the word touch meant
The way we went about this was we would place our hand in front of her tell her to touch than gently move our hand onto her nose. When her nose touched our hand we gave her a treat, we repeated this several times and then stopped moving our hand so that she would have to move her nose to make the connection, when she did she was given a treat.
We then attached a bell to a wall at a height that was easy for her to reach.
And when she needed to go out to relieve herself we would walk her to the bell ask her to touch it by pointing at the bell when she touched the bell she was given a treat and she was able to go out, this we would touch the bell ourselves and continue and then take her out this way she would still associate the bell with going out, it is important though that you only take your dog out to do their business then bring them right back in. you want them to associate ringing the belle with needing to Pee and pooh and not to go out and play or walk.
We did the touch the belle to go out and pee for a full and receiving a treat for two days after that her reward was just to go out and by the end of the week she was ringing the Belle to go out without us prompting her to touch the Belle.
We hope this helps and if you have any questions leave them down in the comment section, we are by no means expert dog trainers but we will do our best to answer a question if we can. Thanks for watching everyone
