Practice makes perfect, have to get out of your comfort to progress, I’ve been doing these exact drills to practice Switch over the summer at Mommoth. Good stuff Kevin.

Hardest part about riding switch for me was after a day of riding switch if I didn't keep riding switch every day I would lose all the progress I made, was hard but so worth learning

What's your opinion on teaching with a focus on riding switch from the beginning on? How much harder would it be for them, and would it be worth it in the long run?

Most definitely it’ll only helps to learn switch once rider is comfortable moving in his main stance and can transcribe this experience on switch. Most importantly it’ll create a habit of not forgetting about switch and it’ll become a routine to use it. I was never focused on switch when started skateboarding and after years it’s really difficult to get out of that comfort zone and engage learning-switch routine where my kids skating switch since almost beginning (per my encouragement) and for them is just part of whole naturally. So yeah switch riding asap

I started boarding last season and started switch this season with great progress (already got carving and toe turning). Just need to finesse now. And I can tell you; it is very worth it to learn ASAP

IMO starting switch early is super important, because if you want until you are bombing black diamonds with your stronger stance you will never want to be a total beginner riding switch. I started switch probably around day 30 or so, and now ride them equally. Also started my fiancee switch around day 5, and she can make it down a blue switch without falling now. Now that I am on day ~300+, and ride switch almost equally (jumping 180s at 30 mph etc) I find I am glad to have learned switch early. Also saves your legs since you are riding half as much each day, and makes those full days so much easier.

Hey Kevin, great video as always. Can you help me to understand why Star is learning with a backpack on? All I can imagine is that it is causing an imbalance as she is trying to move her board around. I'm happy to be corrected! Keep up the great work, loving the channel.

She had her backpack on only because the lifts were closing and we had to leave the mountain. I should have actually carried it for her.

I really don't get it how people need to be taught switch. It's the same as your normal stance just leaning down hill facing the other way. Just copy and paste. Granted it feels like crap but it's just a feeling to get used to.

her board isnt really suited for switch riding she should get a rocker board or something if she wants to ride switch.

This lesson is bad because it misses the essential: the transfer of mass from one side of the board to the other. And with this extra weight on her back causing her to fall backwards, it's even more important to teach her this fundamental first!

Body naturally does that. I think it would have been more important to stress bending the knees on the toe side.
