This half of the camp, we are teaching hockey goalies the necessary steps to become successful using the stutter step. Great video. Interesting that 4 of the 5 kids have Bauer. I know that their performance is really good, but I have never been able to get past their garbage durability.

I wonder why kids have a kinda hard time to get this stutter step, the other day I was teaching my bantam goalies this exact move and they had like the hardest time learning it. the kinda got it at the end but I'm redoing it

Haha pretty solid setups out there for sure. Gotta have the banter on the ice, though! The kids love it and it makes the skates more fun

Can I ask how old you were when you first started using the RVH? I don’t teach it until the kids are 14 so that their bodies are more mature to handle the strain.

What's the advantage of a stutter step, picking your skate up, vs just normally shuffling?
@IncreasePerformance

Gives you good momentum. It’s not something you’d use all the time and is situational however it’s great to have in your tool box

@@IncreasePerformance got it, so like a point to point pass? Where you want to get across fast but you're not too concerned about an imminent shot?

@@johnblouch Can't speak for Daniel here but it seems like the trend is moving towards shorter, more powerful movements where you stay connected to the ice and generally squared up. Think, when I open that lead leg for the big T-Push, I have to land, gather and square myself in the time it takes for a player to get the shot off or he changes position/direction entirely requiring additional movements. Here we stay connected, the lead leg can stop and change direction with the puck/player. Atleast, in that stutter step to shuffle move. Stutter step seems like a smart evolution of the shuffle.

What kind of situations would you want to use the stutter step? First idea was odd man rushes but I'm not sure

Goaltending has gotten so boring since I played in the 90s. I get it's what works now especially since every goalie in the league now is 6'+ and most are 6'3"-6'6" and it works with long pads and a big chest protector. But it just seems so boring. Interesting to watch though.

I had to change the way goalie is played because of my height. But i love playing like it. It works for me in higher divisions. I know i wont play elite but i enjoy the game :)

Totally get what you're saying. It wasn't too hard to learn the newer style and I've found it way more effective when I actually remember to do it. No flashy rolling pad saves though...unless I F up lol. Still getting used to the change in how the pads fit though. Makes skating interesting from time to time.
