A few weeks ago, my dad found a cockatiel sitting on our roof. We brought him inside and he's a really cool bird. We couldn't find who he belonged to, so I guess he's staying with us for now. Anyway, I call him Harold and I thought it'd be pretty cool to teach him to talk. Wish me luck!

+NATIVEBEAST852 Gaming They can get pretty moody, especially if disturbed when they don't want to be! The key is to keep interactions positive. Spend as much time with your bird as you can and hand feed it. Also, training can help with the bonding process, if you use positive rewards for good behavior. It may take some time, but your bird can come around!

NATIVEBEAST852 Gaming because you do gaming instead of bonding cuz i did that and didnt bond with him and played video games and he was the perfect bird and did video games for a long time and he hisses and bites me but i let him out today and he flew around and landed and i said “its alright charlie and petted him and he let me pet him barely and he got onto my finger and i havent had that in a year and then hes on my shoulder very cautious but it seems like he is liking me more

Mine are about 12 years old. They do mimic some whistles but obviously they are too old to talk, but I still enjoy watching these videos of younger ones learning to talk.

I have that same cage😂 my cockatiel is 9 years old and we have had her since she was 3 and we thought it was a boy because of its color and it talks a lot but we found out it was a girl because it laid 11 eggs (not at once) but I love my cockatiel❤️

Now i had my cockatiel for a month (he's 4 months old) and he CANT stay without me, he yells every time i leave him alone and also tries to whistle a little bit. When I got my bird the breeder was a first time breeder and couldn't tell if it was male or female. I went directly to the pet store with it and they said it was difficult to determine the sex but based on the fact there were white dots down her flight feathers they guessed it was a girl. I was disappointed I really wanted a talking bird. The first time she ever bit me, I mean a painful hard bite, she was protecting an egg that I didn't notice when I went in to get her. I was stunned, I was baffled as to why she'd bite me so hard but it became habit whenever she laid eggs. She's 19 years old now and no longer lays. She never learned to talk, whistle or sing. She's a dynamic squawker though! I'd never get another one but I would agree get a male if possible. I love her to pieces of course and she's very bonded to me but no talking or tricks.

I just got a cockatiel, and we've done a DNA test on it. We were leaning towards the girl side for my cockatiel because it has a series of chirps, but the chirps single out to one and break for a few seconds. PumpkinStudiosAJ You actually CAN "toilet train" a bird. There is a higher success rate with larger birds, but my tiel has somewhat gotten the hang of it (I still have to work with him). Just pick a word you want to use to get your bird to potty and say it when you see your bird pooping. Eventually, you can put your bird somewhere it's ok to eliminate and say that word to get them to do it! It's important to give them regular opportunities to go, or else they won't be able to hold it and they will potty where they are. If your bird is pooping inappropriately a lot, it might also help to give him time outs in his cage directly after he goes.
