Hey Orlando, I really enjoy your videos. I get a lot of great ideas. On this particular one, exercise #2. If you add what I think would be a 16th note double on the bass drum as you’re doing the accent on the ride cymbal, sounds really cool. It’s really hard to do on both but it sounds equally cool on either the first or second one. I hope that makes sense... Cheers man

Adam , you are correct in saying there are a lot of ways to play a paradiddle . Here is a good one , flam the first beat of every one then move the accent to the E then to and then A.Then play the accent and move the flam in the same manner . Now play it at 144 bpm .I can play it but not at the speed required .

cool stuff adam, im wondering why you say you are displacing the para-diddle in the last exercise because you are still starting the pattern on the one? I would think displacing means moving the pattern to start on a count other than one..
@AdamTuminaro

Correct! Displacing the "feeling" would be more accurate, as the accents are the only thing that's really different. Good call!

If those are ghost notes then I must be over thinking how quiet they need to be O.0
@AquaAnim
@AquaAnim 8 жыл бұрын
Look at his mic placement, its directly in front of where he is ghosting, more important to look at his stick height which is 1/4 the height of his accents.
@InEpicinium
@InEpicinium 8 жыл бұрын
AquaAnim True, you would get a more dynamic range if his mic was farther away, didn't even pay attention to that. Personally I always thought it has to barely be heard even to the drummer himself rather than make it like 1/6 or an eighth of the volume of his accents just to be rendered down in mixing XP
@AquaAnim
@AquaAnim 8 жыл бұрын
+FallenPlague912 Its all personal really, some people would like whisper quiet, but in some contexts that wont work, like Matt Halpern in Periphery, his ghosts are naturally a little louder from the musical situation. In jazz i keep my ghosts as low as possible, you just want them to be barely heard, and thatll depend on the genre really.
@InsomniakDrums
@InsomniakDrums 8 жыл бұрын
+FallenPlague912 Also keep into consideration, the definition of "ghost notes" are also subjective. In marching percussion, most people consider ghosts notes to be where you air the motion of the stroke entirely and don't even hit the drum.
@InEpicinium
@InEpicinium 8 жыл бұрын
+Dino Asbury That might as well just be a pause for the length of the note then xD I've heard ghost notes in the ensemble style being used but never understood what it was since I wasn't a drummer back in my band days. interesting though
